1. I have a better idea:
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.15.11)
Build this complex that is mentioned in this article plus another ,for more 1400 soldiers ,in the current UN's complex. Give a kick in the rear of those "Blair & Cia Waste of Time",and do something useful for Israel in it.
2. Our capital, our land
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.15.11)
Great idea! Each day that the PLO violates the peace accords, the more land we take off the table.

4. Excuse me?
Israeli 2   (02.15.11)
"One of our goals is to make sure the examined area is under the full sovereignty of the State of Israel." Of course it is. Private property? Real Estate law? That's a different matter.
5. Wondering....
IMC ,   Jerusalem   (02.15.11)
what will happen with the fabulous real estate at Gillot? Who get's to make money off of this move? I don't think this is about politics it is about the real estate profits to be made!
6. Ronen, learn where Israel is...
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (02.15.11)
Ronen Medzini, first you write about building in Ramot as if it is the capital of Palestiana, now an expansion of the Heberw U. come now, learn where we live.
7. #5 - Profits from sale of land go to government
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (02.15.11)
This is not the first time that prime real estate used by the IDF is looking to be emptied and then sold. If they sell the land it will be developed and the profits from the land will go into the government coffers - and hopefully reduce the need to tax the rest of us.
8. LMAO @ #6 in Los Angeles! & u're going 2 teach us?!
(02.15.11)
all the way from LA you are going to teach us where we live? really? too funny!
9. #7 thing is it's not clear who owns the land in Jerusalem!
(02.15.11)
So it may well be that the army may have to move the education college elsewhere or buy the land in Jerusalem. and having to buy and develop the land costs money and then there is the building which needs to be done and that costs money too! So I am not so sure that the money from the sale of the Gillot land will end up in the country's coffers. It will probably end up costing us yet another fortune to move the base and to develop the lands etc. In other words I still think this is about real estate profits and because this is the middle east a whole bunch of private individuals will make a whole bunch of money and very little of it will end up in the country's coffers...you are right though it will end up in the government's coffers (read: Likud government those big spenders running this country of ours!)
10. #3: No, unless they are Israeli leftists
Israeli 2   (02.15.11)
11. this was know for quite some time, what's new
uli ,   jerusalem   (02.15.11)
quite some time there were discussions and architectural competitions for the new idf complex in the har hazofim area and about the bezalel complex on har hazofim that might be given to the idf while bezalel will get a new school on the russian compound, built be german turkish muslims with no reference to Judaism and in order to 'be a stage for the church'. what happened suddenly that you are suprised?

16. "DANGEROUS" political burden???
Chaya ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (02.15.11)
You wrote "...dangerous burden with regards to future political possibilities in Jerusalem." You mean it might IMPROVE Jewish rights to our capital city Jerusalem? Whose people do you represent?
17. Glilot land use:
Chaya ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (02.15.11)
The Army is supposed to serve the people, not go against us destroying Jewish property - and recompense all individuals whose property has already been destroyed and each soldier and officer vow never again to destroy Jewish property nor take any part in its destruction whatsoever. The real estate of Glilot should remain national land: I suggest turn it into farmland for all area high-school students to learn how to farm w/wo hothouses.
18. Eternal Jerusalem and Y-net
B.A. ,   Sweden   (02.15.11)
