as generics are free to copy, there is usually more than one generic available. 'Aspirin', for example, has at least half a dozen from different companies.

Bill ,   New York, USA   (02.18.11)
You really do not understand the importance of the generics market. The generics force prices down from monopoly levels. So if you want anyone other than the very rich to afford medication, you really should be offering Teva a big wet (French?) kiss. Your comment about copying other innovations is simply laughable. Israeli firms hold plenty of non-Israeli and particularly US patents and probably lead on a per capita basis, so attacking Israel for a lack of innovation is absurd. Even engineering copies of other innovations requires a lot of technical prowess (why don't you try home brewing an existing chemotherapy medication sometime?). But I will concede that Grange makes some nice furniture, so at least you have that.
33. To #23, Bronstein.
Steven ,   Rockville, USA   (02.18.11)
Please boycott the medications produced by Teva, and purchase the brand names only. We will see what will run out sooner, your money or your life. According to your name, you must be a self-hating leftist, loony Jew, and very very stupid, for which even the expensive brand medication cannot provide cure. Try Teva products.

With a Jewish name like yours, you have to be smarter:-)).First of all generics are NOT the same. There is some small changes.Second, the prices for generic drugs are about 25 to 50% lower then originals. So the issue of boycott have no value.
36. Boycott
Amram ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.18.11)
Israel should hire lawyers and lay charges for libel, hateful propaganda (and probably assault) against the people who boycott against Israel outside the stores. (Blood? stealing water? this is way beyond freedom od speech) Hard to believe that the store owner do not charge them with intererence in their business. Are they that scared of the Arabs?

True, Teva is only one of the Generic Pharmaceutical manufacturers, it also happens to be THE BIGGEST When the patent has expired on the Original, customers are eager to buy the Generic simply because it's so much cheaper and just as good as the original Check with your druggist, then talk If you want to pay 50% more for the original be my guest, it's your money

43. Slowly, but surely
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (02.19.11)
Slowly, but surely, the boycott of the Zionist state is taking hold, first in Europe, but soon all over the American Continent. The Zionist state must disappear, but better slowly through boycott than fast through a destructive war in which Muslims and Christians also must die. But we need the boycott, and we need and are getting activist folks to enforce the boycott, even here in America. BDS!!!
44. No. 3 - Lucy from London
Emma ,   London   (02.19.11)
Give what land back? The land that Egypt and Jordan unilaterally annexed in 1948 although it was never theirs to do so? The land that Israel captured as the result of a defensive war when she was threatened with annihilation in 1967? You probably think that there was a state called Palestine that had Jerusalem as its capital that the Israelis invaded - that is the lie that the Arabs want gullible people (especially stupid left wingers like you who know nothing about context and history want you to believe). For you information although you are most probably too entrenched in your anti-Israel views to even listen, the Arabs in Gaza and the West Bank have a higher standard of living than Arabs in most other Muslim countries and the majority of Israeli Arabs would prefer to live under Israeli rule than Palestinian rule. May I respectfully suggest that you stop spouting propaganda picked up on a street corner and go and do some serious studying about the conflict. A good start would be Alan Dershowitz's 'The Case for Israel', you would be astounded to learn that you have been spoon fed Arab lies for years.
45. #3 Lucy you're the one that is simples
Ruth ,   London   (02.19.11)
To paraphrase the words of Manuel from Fawlty Towers, 'you know nothing' so stop talking out of your backside. Are you up in arms about the Arabs that have been killed by their fellow Arabs in the last few weeks during the protests in the Arab countries or do Arab deaths only matter when Israel is involved. Will you be bullying people to boycott goods from Yemen, Egypt, Bahrain etc where their people do not live in freedom and dignity? No I don't think so you only take action when Israel is involved you hypocrite.
46. To our beloved anti-Semitic boycotters
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.19.11)
I really didn't know that goods and services had nationalities. I didn't know for example that Eden water could have Jewish or Israeli nationality/ethnicity. I just thought that water was water - a natural thing from the natural world. So in essence, you, our most beloved anti-Semitic boycotters, think you can somehow harm Jews by refusing to drink water from Israel, or refusing to play with toys from Israel, or refusing to use medicine from Israel for your healing or refusing to use computers and software programs from Israel in order to facilitate your modern 21st century lives. I honestly didn't know that goods, services and indeed nature had nationalities. But then, if nature is natural, and if then you equate Israeli natural resources with Jews/Israelis, then it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that it is only natural that Israel belongs to the Jews. Or did I miss something? Be my guest - you wanna hate Israel and calling us names - go ahead - scream as much as you can and as loud as possible. But at the end of the day: a life of hatred, a life about what you are against instead of what life is all about - isn't that a tragic life? Without us - what would you do? Maybe you are hating us because you know that your lives are empty and meaningless?
47. Welcome in Aus
David ,   Australia   (02.19.11)
A majority of anti semitic, israel boycotters / protesters in Australia are Islamic immigrants, a majority of australians hold the view that they are unaustralian and disrespectful to Australia in many aspects.
48. no 43 graczek
Emma ,   London   (02.19.11)
No they won't succeed because as Jews we have survived far worse over the centuries. Yes the boycotters are nasty and unpleasant, make a lot of noise and tell a lot of lies but ultimately they won't win. Whatever they try to create will be based on hatred which will in the end be self-destructive. Without Israel to hate the Muslims will just turn on each other and kill each other. Look at what is happening in Bahrain. The Sunni Muslims hate the Shia Muslims with a passion (and vice versa) the only thing that unifies them is hatred of Israel. Most Arabs really don't give a flying fig for the Palestinians, if they did, they could have solved the problem of refugees that they created in 1948 decades ago. I don't care about people like you with your entrenched anti-Israelism that refuses to listen to reason, I don't particularly care about American duplicity or your dreadful president who has no moral backbone and will sell Israel down the river to suit his own countries interests (and his real religious affiliations). As I said we have survived the worst that people have thrown at us over the centuries and we will survive unpleasant people like you.
49. #43 Don't quit your day job, graczek
Cynthia ,   USA   (02.19.11)
You'll be long gone while Israel continues to thrive. Sorry to bring you bad news but I continue to see more and more Israeli products in American retail stores. And store managers tell me they are best sellers. I promote them whenever possible.
50. Truth is Israel's strongest weapon. Why not use it more?
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.19.11)
Truth is Israel's strongest weapon. Until the Oslo Disaster, Israel did a relatively good job of disseminating the truth. Every open minded person in the Western World knew that we were a tiny democracy surrounded by infinitely larger forces seeking our destruction. It may not be pleasant but it was true, and it still is. However, by accepting Oslo, Israel essentially admitted our enemies had been correct all the time. We pretended that our land wasn't really our land. We pretended "Palestinians" were the real owners of our land instead of the poseurs they are. Worst of all, we prepared to cede much of our sole, tiny Homeland. The world watched this and thought that since we were willing to give away our land, it must not really be ours. The way to render boycotts and our enemies' lies useless is to counter them with truth. Bring forth our legal experts to prove Judea and Samaria are legally ours. Annex Judea and Samaria. Stop acting like trespassers on our own land and act like the rightful owners we are. Bring our maps to the U.N. proving the Arabs have more than 600 times our land mass. Truth is our strongest weapon. Why not use it much more?
51. Why wouldn't people want to buy Israeli products?
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (02.19.11)
Perhaps because of the way Israel has treated the Palestinians? No. of course not. The same arguments you are using against BDS are the arguments the Afrikaaners used to support apartheid. Apparently, the BDS movement must be hurting the Israeli economy, otherwise this article would not have been written. And the attacks on the boycott supporters as being antisemitic has lost its sting. Wail on Israel as your dreams of dominance crumble into dust.

54. #51 Your grudge against Israel is personal
Cynthia ,   USA   (02.20.11)
Israel provides Palestinians with essential supplies, employs them, provides them with medical care, medical supplies and trains their medical personnel. Israel offers economic cooperation and has attempted to resolve the conflict through negotiation. The Palestinian response has been terror, terror, more terror and excuse after excuse to avoid direct negotiations. Israel owes the Palestinians nothing. The Israeli economy is doing quite well. Their products, expertise and technology are in high demand.
55. #51 Swab Jockey
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.20.11)
Avoid any and all Israeli products, we wouldn't want to prolong your miserable life with any of our medicines or technologies
56. #52. See "The Myth of Israel's Illegal Settlements".
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.20.11)
#52. The claim that Israel is an "occupier" of Judea and Samaria has been completely debunked by many international legal experts. For example, read "The Myth of Israel's Illegal Settlements" by Professor David M. Phillips of the Northeastern University School of Law. Phillips completely shreds the anti-Israel, politically motivated notion that we are "occupiers" of others' land. The truth is ours. We merely need shout it out loud and strong enough. All open minded people of good will agree that Judea and Samaria are ours.
57. 52 - l Not illegal
Emma ,   London   (02.20.11)
The Arab entity who call themselves Palestinians have no legal claim to Judea and Samaria. It was land ceded to the nascent state of Israel under the United Nations partition plan in 1947 which the Egyptians and Jordanians then illegally annexed in 1948. The Arabs massacred and expelled the Jews from Hebron, a city where there had been a Jewish presence for generations. The Jordanians also illegally annexed East Jerusalem which had been declared an international city by the UN, desecrated and blew up the synagogues, expelled all the Jewish inhabitants whose ancestors had lived there for generations. They built a wall separating East and West Jerusalem and Jews were denied access to their holiest site for nearly two decades until the Israelis recaptured the Old City in 1967. That was illegal. A country is legally entitled to retain land it gains as a result of a defensive war as happened in 1967 when Israel gained the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip after she was attacked by Egypt and Jordan. So Israel's presence in Judea and Samaria is not illegal. It is not and never has been Palestinian land.

59. We buy Teva drugs - unbelievable savings for all
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (02.20.11)
60. Buy Israel products - millions of Israel supporters
abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (02.20.11)
In North America there are millions of Jews, non-Jews, and many millions of Christians who support Israel fully. If IsraelĀ  made a more vigorous campaign in the U.S. to promote Israel products, the results would be overwhelming. The economic sales that would result would GREATLY eclipse any and all of the measly anti-Israel boycotts.
