1. PA trying to force Obama in to a no win situation
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (02.17.11)
With the PA on the run internally they have nothing to loose by this and potentially a lot of internal and Arab support which they need after the Palestinian Papers scandal. On the other hand by forcing Obama into a no win situation they are not helping their cause and could end up loosing their support in the White House. This will not end well.
2. Another betrayal by the Obama administration.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (02.17.11)
It's really dangerous these days to be an ally of America. But, aside from being anti-Israel, par for the course for Obama, this is another example (among many) of just how incompetent this administration is. Obama has again alienated both sides, everything this amateur-hour president does is a lose-lose for America. To call them clueless is an understatment. American foreign policy has become a joke, a very unfunny & dangerous joke. How bizarre is it when the whole Middle-East is in turmoil, when only a small spark could ignite a major fire, to give any importance to a Jew adding a room to a house in his own country? By the way, I just read two very good blog posts this morning. The first is by Steven Plaut at Zionist Conspiracy, the second by SULTAN KNISH. Both are well worth reading.
3. illegal settlements
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.17.11)
No American Administration has accepted the legality of the settlements. If the USA wants to maintain a modicum of self-respect, which it is fast losing throughout the world, the very least it can do is to abstain.
4. to lose: I lose, you lose, losing etc. Loose is a different
word entirely ,   meaning 'not tight'   (02.17.11)
5. I hope it will be approved.
Uri Mishad ,   Mitzpe Ramon   (02.17.11)
The Palestinians have changed. They do politics better than us in the UN. We have an indecent Government that is not able to move us ahead. So we are beaten by all sides. Our only ally in the world, the US, is falling down, with or without Obama. The money is with China and the Arab world now. They are buying America little by little. And what can we offer the US? Nothing. We just take their money and show chutzpah to them. No wonder more and more Americans are turning against us. What we have to do is simple: leave the West Bank. Let them have their State. Let's make business with them as normal neighbours. They will get rich with Arab money pouring there. Let's leave in peace forever.
6. Settlements
Z ,   Israel   (02.17.11)
So, for the first time ever in the long ongoing bout between us and the Palestinians, they are now saying that settlements (on only 4% of the West Bank nonetheless) are the "main obstacle" to peace. Hard to believe. Moreover, on a separate note, the MFA better start getting their stuff together and overhaul how they do international diplomacy. Yes, we might say, "Oh, whatever, screw the world, it doesn't matter," but we are involved in the international political forum and therefore must learn how to deal with it. There is no attraction for young Israelis to work for them, nor is there any understanding by the government of its important. Most foreign officials and diplomats get paid very well by their home nations, attracting young bright minds, but in Israel it is a disaster and a disgrace, a mark of shame on the government. It is hard to win hearts and minds while countering outlandish statements and resolutions when the people that are overseas on the front line only complain about their job and have nearly no incentive to work.
7. To the Israeli leadership....
FO ,   Belgium   (02.17.11)
Blame yourself ! You became masters in transforming a good case into a bad trial ! You never had the guts to tell the world, and also your own people, that the LEAGUE OF NATIONS gave the Jews in a unanimous vote by all its 51 members, in 1922, the IRREVOCABLE RIGHT to settle in the area between the Mediterranenan Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights, a right unaltered in INTERNATIONAL LAW, and valid to this day due to ARTICLE 8O of the CHARTER of the UNITED NATIONS !
8. This is while the entire Muslim world is in flames
Tahl   (02.17.11)
In Egypt, there are bloody clashes between the masses and Mubarak loyalists, with a few tens of people dead. Many prisoners were also brutally executed in recent weeks. A CBS reporter was apparently gang-raped by the angry mob. In Iran, the government is brutally repressing the demonstrations in the streets calling for freedom. In Libya, the civil rights activists are arrested for urging the people to fight for their freedoms, and oust ruler Ghadafi from power.. In Bahrain, riot police attacked anti-government protesters, fired tear gas and wielded clubs at them, killing 4. The entire Arab world is in engulfed in chaos and flames, yet for the UN, the most pressing matter is to pass another resolution regarding the settlements. And later on, such ridiculous resolutions are referred to as "international law" which Israel is supposedly breaching. Yup, the biggest criminal in the world is none other than... Israel. This corrupt institution has long since become a very sad joke, and the epitome of hypocrisy.
9. Mr. President Obama,
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.17.11)
Palestinians are waiting you to translate your slogans into action, Ppl of Palestine as the Ppl of Egypt DESERVE freedom and better life, can you? I belive you can.....Just do it.
10. Israel was forced in Palestine, time to force Palestine also
Ann ,   UK   (02.17.11)
11. Number 7
Neil ,   Auckland New Zealand   (02.17.11)
Whatever rights that were given to Jews to settle in Palestine did not extinguish the rights of the Arabs living there. If you want the land, take the people. Including the refugees.
12. UN to vote Friday on" settlements ".......
Trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (02.17.11)
And WHO cares ??? At the same time ,the whole arab world is shaken by riots It reminds me the story of byzantium when rulers discussed about the angels gender with turks about to seize the besiedged city ....
13. "Palestinian territory" ???
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (02.17.11)
Israel did not capture the land from a sovereign state, hence according to international law there is no one to return it to.
14. Hey Salma - no peace until you negotiate
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (02.17.11)
Nothing good will happen unless your leaders come back to the negotiating table. Leave the cheap excuses at the door and talk peace.
15. For your knowledge NUMBER 11...
FO ,   Belgium   (02.17.11)
The same 24th of July 1922, the League of Nations under pressure of the British delegate accepted to separate the area between the Jordan River and the Desert of Arabia (75% of Palestinian territory !) from the territory that had to become the Jewish National Home (In clear, a State). This separated territory was put under exclusive British rule and closed to Jewish immigration. It became later the State called Jordan, with a population of 75% Palestinian Arabs, DE FACTO the ARAB PALESTINIAN STATE ! ! !
16. UN to vote on settlements? not on condamning Iran & Bahrain?
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (02.17.11)
fine! UN, thou shalt reap what thou sow! soon UN will be dissolve and all other countries join Arab League. as churches in European countries will be outnumbered by mosques, and European - arab ministers dominate their governing administrations. the sun has set on Europe, the green has engulf the white.... only the Asia dragon China & India can face up to the greens. US, wake up before your white turn to green.
17. #9 Everybody wants Obama to turn slogans into viable action
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (02.17.11)
The only actions he's taken so far are bankrupting the US , and he's alienated every US ally. Obama is a total disaster and his administration is totally clueless about world politics, so don't hold your breath ...
18. THEY TRY, AGAIN AND AGAIN
Ricardo Macher ,   Karne Shomron IL   (02.17.11)
Let them try... Palestinians need this to stay alive in the international scene.. .
19. Settlements Part 1
Robert Blum ,   New York USA   (02.17.11)
US President Barack Obama consistently couches his demand that Israel prohibit Jewish people from constructing or expanding our homes and communities in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria in legal-sounding language. Obama has called settlements "illegitimate." And he has said that Israel "has obligations under the road map," while referring disparagingly to "settlements that, in past agreements, have been categorized as illegal." Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Obama's Middle East envoy George Mitchell have repeatedly uttered similar statements. By characterizing its demand that Israel prohibit Jews from building homes in Israel's capital city and its heartland as a legal requirement, the Obama administration portrays Israel as an international outlaw. After all, if building homes for Jews is a crime, and Israel is not prohibiting Jews from building homes, then Israel is at best guilty of enabling a crime to take place, and at worst, it is a criminal state. It makes good political sense for the Obama administration to make its case against Israel in this fashion. According to a survey of US public opinion published in early 2006 by the Boston Review, whereas only 7 percent of Democrats support going to war to spread democracy - versus 53% of Republicans; 71% of Democrats - versus 36% of Republicans - support going to war to help the United Nations "uphold international law." What this poll shows is that for Obama supporters, the idea that Israel should be treated poorly because it is in breach of international law resonates deeply. The problem with the Obama administration's characterization of a ban on Jewish building in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria as an Israeli legal obligation is that Israel has never taken upon itself a legal obligation to prohibit such building activities. Israel has never signed an agreement that has characterized any Jewish communities as "illegal." By Caroline Glick
20. #7 - YO FO
Eyal ,   USA   (02.17.11)
Shut up already. Israel doesn't and will not give if the UN votes on a resolution. The only thing it will do is create a distance from future negotiations and the Pals. Haven't you dummies learned anything is Europe? Israel will not cave to the Pals or to the world Useless Nations body. If the UN can't do a dam thing to Iran, do u really think they will do anything to Israel? The Useless Nations talk more than take action, so what then? Oh, you want war right? Fo, don't hide in Europe when we all know you are an Arab, otherwise, why would you be so dumb? This will cause the Pals more grievance and you know it, or do you? Oh and by the way, pick up any Bible (any of them, the Torah, the King James, whatever) and learn something, it will guide you to the realization the land always belonged to the Israelites (4000 years ago). Funny.
21. Settlements Part 6
Robert Blum ,   New York USA   (02.17.11)
As Marcus and Crook note, the 2008 US Foreign Operations Bill bars US assistance to the Palestinians from being used "for the purpose of recognizing or otherwise honoring individuals who commit or have committed acts of terrorism." Obama, the former law professor, never tires of invoking international law. And yet, when one considers his policies toward Israel on the one hand, and his policies toward illegal terrorist organizations on the other, it is clear that Obama's respect for international law is mere rhetoric. True champions of law in both Israel and the US should demand an end to his administration's contempt for the US's actual - rather than imaginary - legal obligations. 22. The UN is a banana republic
Isaac   (02.17.11)
Let's see: Iranian warships are parading about & Iran is seeking nukes, the Arabs are protesting & seeking to overthrow their governments in various countries, Hizbullah, for all practical purposes, has taken over Lebanon, Arab terrorist are bombing Israel from Gaza and seeking to inflitrate Israel, most of the PA, like Abbas and Dahlan, have obtained Jordanian citizenship - and the UN is worried about Israel building ? Right now in the US, we are debating the budget - and we are sending our congresspeople and senators emails where they can cut the budget - it is a recommendation to cut funding for the UN and the PA. If the UN is going to act like a banana republic, then it can go live on bananas.
23. One Problem Salma (#9)
emanon ,   USA   (02.17.11)
THER NEVER WAS AN ARAB PALESTINIAN PEOPLE! That term has always been associated with Israel and Jewish. Come on, you know the drill: 1) What for of government did they have prior to 1967?); 2) name one palestinain leader from any time period before 1967?; 3) What was the unit of Palestinian currency?; 4) Who were Palestine's trade partners?; there's more, but truthful and historically verifiable answers (in other words, not lies) to any of those questions will start a dialog. "Palestine" as an arab entity was invented in 1967 by an Egyptian: Yassar Affat. That's how bogus your claim is.
24. the american congress
brian ,   phil usa   (02.17.11)
will decide not obama
25. He can not hold vote but he wants UNSC to vote to push Israe
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (02.17.11)
He can not hold vote but he wants UNSC to vote to push Israeli concessions. Here Abbas is telling the world he can not hold elections because he does not represent his people enough to hold an election but Israel building in Israel is the reason there is no peace treaty. What a hypocritical lying guy.
26. it's time to leave the west bank
david azoulay ,   beer sheva   (02.17.11)
27. UN has been usurped by the dark forces
Brod ,   USA   (02.17.11)
The UN has been usurped, dominated, controlled and manipulated by the Islamist-Jihadist countries. It is irrelevant. It is time for the West to have a UN of only non-Islamist-Jihadist countries. Israel and Judeo-Christians around the the world must remain strong, united and resolute in confronting and countering the dark forces. The dark forces are taking full advantage now because they think they control the WH. This is abhorent to Judeo-Christian America and all patriotic Americans. Israel should reject the dark forces' attempt to usurp Israel's liberated historic homeland of Judea and Samaria-Land of Israel which is GOD-GIVEN and GOD-RESTORED to the Jewish Nation as an everlasting Covenant between GOD and Israel.
28. Useless Idiots
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (02.17.11)
With all that's happening in the world, they focus on meaningless details. How about voting on rockets fired by Arabs at civilian targets? No, that would make to much sense. Focus on land that doesn't belong to the Arabs. For a country that doesn't now, or ever has existed. That's why they can't name the last 3 rulers before Arafat, can't name the Capital of any so called Country, never had money traded on the International Monetary exchange, etc, etc. etc....
29. Time to Annex Area C
