If the workers would be given the option come to Israel for work and you have to abide to rules - otherwise you are not allowed to come and can be deported - many will chose to abide to these rules. Actually the migrant worker is not allowed to have children in Israel. You should check the rules for temporary work permits in the US and UK if you think that Israel is the only country with these regulations.

I and the writer agree only on one point: that the guest worker program is based on economic advantage, with the brokers and a few enterprises making the real money - which is why it hasn't ended. On virtually all other points, I must take issue. This is a program the guest workers signed up for. If the terms aren't to their liking, they can choose not to come. And the "Valentines Day" argument is just emotional manipulation. If they want to fall in love and make babies, they can do it back home. In the meantime, Israel has enough surplus labor - legal and illegal, political and economic refugees - to merit shutting the guest worker program down.

I dont think so. Migrant workers receive a working permit to allow them to work in Israel for 3 years. After their 3 years are up, instead of renewing their visas, they need to leave Israel, pronto. These workers come to Israel with the intention of working,earning more than they ever could in their own countries,& sending their hard earned salaries back to their respective countries to support their families. The majority of migrant workers live 3-4 in an apartment, so they do have someone to come home to! The Philippino home care workers live with the elderly they care for.
