1. Fact stays Fact
E.K.   (02.17.11)
The biggest anti-Semites in the world are these Liberal Left Jews
2. Sadly, Friedman no longer listen to reason when it comes to
David Alon ,   Israel   (02.17.11)
Israel; his writings are strictly based on emotions, derived from disgust with the people who, he claims, belong to the same tribe as his. The only common matter between us, Israelis, and Friedman is the fact that his last name is also used by some Jews in Israel.
3. Rationality vs. Friedman
leo ,   nyc   (02.17.11)
This is a cogent response to Friedman's nonsense--really it's Friedman who thinks of himself as a "pharaoh", whose opinions are not to be challenged. It's clear that he is a mouthpiece for the Obama Administration and that is very sad...
4. Such unadulterated bablaat
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (02.17.11)
This mis why we are so isolated. This struff proves how blind deaf and dumb we really have become. Go'al Nefesh!
5. The blindfolded post card from Israel
Robert Schwartz ,   Germany   (02.17.11)
The author should be joking. Or he's ass blind to what happens in Israel, in the region and in the West as the incompetent Foreign Minister from Moldova. Tom F. has by far the better, correct view on the situation. Including the behind the scenes in the White House, were the disgust with Netanyahu and Co is getting epidemic.
6. Boot lickers.....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (02.17.11)
Friedman is not the only one, there is a long list of court jews who have cowardly turned against their religion and the jewish homeland. They are faithless, half educated and selfish sycophants who enjoy a shameful interview with antisemitic Charlie Rose, whose program is supported by jewish funds. Who else?
7. #5
Roman ,   NYC, USA`   (02.17.11)
You missed the basic facts. Israelis support their government. The polls show it. Tom Friedman is an NYC Upper East Side elite who has lost all credibility, and value as a writer by constantly being out of sync with reality. I find that this writer hit the point right on the head when he said: "Many in Egypt oppose peace with Israel" this could very well ignite a middle east regional war. and guess what, most of America supports Israel, why? because they have common sense of whats right.
8. To the Pulitzer prize moran from the New York Times.
Bartley Kulp ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.17.11)
I wonder if Tommy boy gave back his Pulitzer that he was awarded for burying the state of Israel in his reports regarding the incident of Sabra and Shatilla. I am talking about the fact that the Felagust General Michael Auon admitted that he was secretly working for the Syrians at the time and set the whole thing up to embarrass Arial Sharon and put the international screws against Israel. Well old Tommy Boy picked up the bate and ran with it. Now he is coming to dish out the old one that Natanyahu is the most beligerant man in the whole middle east. Unlike the "enlightened peace loving protesters in Egypt that sexually assaulted and beat up a CBS reporter while yelling" Jew, Jew, Jew". You know, the beautiful people. He certainly does not have the spirit of imagination and cooperation that one of the Egyptian opposition leaders have. You know, the one who unilaterally wants to nullify camp David. I think that the problem with Friedman is that he possesses to big of an imagination.
9. #5 and of course, you, Mr. Expert know all this... how?
(02.17.11)
10. #4 Posts like yours are the reason for our isolation...
(02.17.11)
when intellectual morons write, I cringe.
11. Friedman pompous arrogance is his demise.
(02.17.11)
Friedman - an irrelevant agitator, writing for an soon-to-become irrelevant publication (NYT is losing readers by the tons) supporting a soon-to-become irrelevant Administration. Friedman arrogance prevents him to see clearly and he constantly confirms why he should be IGNORED. All his past "advice" advocating land for peace and appeasement for terror were failures which cost Israel dearly both politically and in human lives. As a result, the more hysterical and vicious Friedman and his friends attacks are, the more I am convinced that the Israeli governemnt is.
12. Friedman - you worry about Obama, we worry about Netanyahu!
(02.17.11)
Or in other words "BUZZ OFF ARROGANT CREEP!". Don't shit on our lawn! Deal?
13. Spare us your elitistic rant, TF!
(02.17.11)
Stick your nose back in M'Barak Obama's butt and don't regale us with your vitriolic "postcards". We've got enough poison from your "peace-loving" Muslim and Ultra-Leftist (better said "anarchic") associates. We really don't need yours too. Go grow a human and humane conscience.
14. I cannot believe you dignifying T.F. with your attention aga
leo ,   usa   (02.17.11)
15. do you think he could be SVR?
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (02.17.11)
a sort of cross between Philby (father and son), Israel Shamir and Anna Chapman, all with media biography.
16. TF's oxygen is attention. Cut attention, and he fades away.
(02.17.11)
17. Democracy
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.17.11)
Democracy in the muslim countries means, that the 51 % majority is allowed to kill the 49 % minority, what is Mr Friedman's explanation ?,that the free elections in Iraq,Gaza,Pakistan, did not turn out so good,Democracy means nothing in countries where decisions are made on emotions.
18. on tom friedman
daniel ,   jerusalem, IL   (02.17.11)
How dare M.Fraiman speak about '"we the jews of Israel etc.." we are here a bunch of israeli jews who agree 100 % with tom friedman, does right wing always have to match with arrogance and absence of thought ??
19. please leave friedman alone
oferdesade ,   israel   (02.17.11)
the poor man has become a sounding board for his boss. how would you like it if you were an intelligent and widely read & respected journalist, reduced to sending messages from one administration to the other! quite obviously, the american admin, cought once again with its pants down, is feeling in the dark, and friedman is sending out bat-calls to find the next obstacle for obama to avoid. although much of what he says might be true, most of it can be discounted as mere noise.
20. "He is a Pulitzer prized Prima Donna"
Israel Israeli   (02.17.11)

21. Subject in reverse
John Williams ,   Ogden USA   (02.18.11)
This is from you article reversed. What do you think it sounds like? Egypt obviously does not oppose liberal democracy in Israel. It does, however - and with good cause - oppose a Jewish or radically anti-Muslim regime in Israel.
22. Tommy and his caddy
Don ,   Washington   (02.18.11)
Overblown sense of importance and demonstrated detachment from common sense.
23. Fearful, unimaginative and cliché-driven article
berlonski ,   berlin   (02.18.11)
24. friedman
andrew brown ,   bridgeport ct usa   (02.18.11)
friedman is nothing more than a court jester ghetto jew who would have entertained the king of poland in 1600,i am sick and tired of liberal american jews trying to tell israel what to do,you really have not much in common with them anymore israel is the center of the jewish world, not long island,
25. Friedman does not understand
Ibrahim El-Awal ,   Dearborb Michigan   (02.18.11)
It took America 200 years to create a democracy and still we do not have a perfect democracy. Yet, we Americans, want to transplant our philosophy to other countries no different than the Soviets and Nazis have done. We feel so perfect that we can tell other people how to lead their life. This attitude is not new: \"The Ugly American\" novel(1958) describes the United States's losing struggle against Communism, the battle for the hearts and minds in Southeast Asia, because of innate arrogance and the failure to understand the local culture. In the Middle East, is the Arab world ready for \"democracy\"? Many of us believe so. Many in USSR and Nazi Germany believed in their ideology too. Democracy cannot fall down from the sky, cannot be an organ transplant. Even if a transplant it requires vigorous chemotherapy and radiation to prevent rejection. Arab Muslim states cannot accept separation of state and religion. Islam categorically does not accept democracy since strict Qoranic law will not allow other religions, rights for women and homosexuals etc. Islam has major support among Arabs and Muslim groups are likely to control, sooner or later, the governments of Egypt, Tunisia, Algiers, Yemen, Lebanon, Jordan. At the same time the basic problems of the masses will not change: there is an exploding population due to no birth control and polygamy, no food, no jobs and no future. Can autocratic regimes such as the one in Iran solve these dire problems? No, Tehran Islamic \"Republic\" was kept intact by a brutal dictatorship. Even though such dictatorships do not last it is inevitable that Mubarak dictatorship will be replaced by a similar dictatorship that is Islamic and likely to be much more brutal than the former one. Those who have an optimistic view, \"Egypt is not Iran\", have ignored the underlying problems of hunger and poverty which engined the demonstration. Neither democracy nor dictatorship have a solution presently thus the Muslim Arab masses will turn to Allah, the Divine power, for help rather than to an earthy parliament. Similarly, one dictatorship is likely to replace another dictatorship in the Middle East. The new dictatorships are likely to be brutal Islamic ones.
26. A few thoghts part 1:
G ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.18.11)
Without diving too deep into the politics of the matter, there are some things that have been bothering me: Does anyone even doubt that, if Israel had loudly supported the riots in Egypt, the articles by Friedman and friends would be along the lines of- "The arrogance of the Jewish state", and how our “out-of-touch, in-bred, unimaginative and cliché-driven” government shouldn't interfere in the business of other nations...? And can anyone even begin to imagine the reaction in the Arab street and countries? Suddenly the whole Egyptian up rise will become a “Zionist conspiracy” to “Undermine the Arab nation”. In fact I heard on the news yesterday that the Iranian opposition asked Israel NOT to support them too loudly since it’s only damaging them… The truth of the matter is that decades of anti-Israeli brain wash doesn’t disappear just because the people are trying to “Take charge of their own destiny” like so many so eloquently wrote…
27. A few thoughts part 2:
G ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.18.11)
And another thing- I am not too old or too cynical to believe that an individual’s mind can’t be influenced by a well written article. However, Friedman just blatantly insulted (using foul language) another countries government. This may get the people who already agree with him to cheer, but everyone else, including the people who he actually had a chance to touch their minds, will understandably and rightfully only get antagonized. Whether one agrees with him or not, the way he reacted in his comments feels like an angry teenager, whose naïve ideology just crashed on the shores of reality.
28. A few thoughts part 3:
G ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.18.11)
One last thing, and this goes out to all of our American friends: It was basically written in the article, but it’s perhaps one of the most important points- It’s really easy to loudly support or condemn such uprising and unrest when you are an OCEAN AWAY. I am not saying you shouldn’t voice your opinions from every roof top in the U.S.A. Just don’t expect the same here, where we are only a border away. At least have the sense to understand that when there is such violent unrest next door, the most natural and justified humane reaction is concern- not blind support or condemnation…
29. #18 - learn who your enemies are!!
Michael ,   USA/Israel   (02.18.11)
Finally an article with some sense and an author with a brain. Be wary of american Jews WHO DON"T LIVE IN ISRAEL....as long as they are living in the most beautiful upscale predominently Jewish neighborhoods and sending their kids to the most expensive private Jewish schools and their kids are not in the army and they are living their lavish lifestyle....they couldn't care less about what actually happens in Israel......only from far......and as long as their day to day lives don't get affected and nobody is dropping any bombs on their houses.
30. Friedman is not an exception as an arrogant person who
Avigdor ,   Israel   (02.18.11)
lives abroad but feel empowered to tell the citizens of the state of Israel how to govern their state, and even who should do it. He is willing, practically, to fight his ideological struggles to the last Jewish man, woman and child in Israel only so that his theoretical views are applied in the reality in which he is not a part. We are, the Jews of Israel.
