1. Synagogue of Gabes
Ahoova   (02.18.11)
On january the 13th, the synagogue of Gabes was vandalized and its torah scrolls reduced to ashes. The Tunisian asked the leader of the Jewish community to keep quiet on this event . Djerba is the oldest Jewish community in North Africa (2500 years old) if not in the entire Middle East together with Yemen, Egypt has about a few dozen Jews left, Libya and Algeria NONE .
2. this isn't about the Jews it is about Tourism....
JMB ,   Jerusalem   (02.18.11)
The Tunisians have a huge tourist industry that they need to protect. So really it is about protecting interests and not about protecting the Jews. But if at the end of the day it works so why not?!
3. The supposed attack took place in El Hamma
sh   (02.18.11)
Ahoova, Elhamma has no synagogue. There is a Jewish graveyard there. Therefore the reason your Gabes story quickly disappeared is obvious. And this piece reports racist slurs outside the synagogue in TUNIS. Mr. Trabelsi, from the Djerba community is panicked and the reasons for this lie in the past terrorist attack there. His concern is understandable. However, he does not need to be the spokesman for Tunis's synagogue which, as you can see, has a community of its own that hangs in there and stands up for its rights.
4. Jews in the diaspora

Also in Brasil, my ex-coountry, there is the risk of attaques on Jews. Please, help us leave there and come to Israel to live in peace.
5. #4 Karne Shromron is here not there...
(02.18.11)
so you already know what the West Bank is all about. No doubt you can tell your friends in Brasil all about it.... all about the money brought in by the Christians for the Jews to live on and all about the great sacrifices you have made in order to live here!
6. Perpetrators should be punished
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (02.18.11)
Condemnation is a step in the right direction, government shouid seek out the perpetrators and prosecute them
7. # 3 what really happened at the El-Hamma synagogue?
ahoova   (02.18.11)
We now know what damage was done to El Hamma synagogue near Gabes a few days ago. Azria Ghozlane, the leader of the Jewish community of Gabes sent out his men to investigate and has now issued an official statement. The security post, common parts, Ekhal (Ark) and a Torah scroll were reduced to ashes. Mr Ghozlane has vowed to restore the site. The synagogue adjoins the tomb of Rabbi Yosef Ma'aravi. The tomb itself was unharmed. Mr Ghozlane says that the Gabes Jewish community has instructed its lawyer to file a complaint to the authorities asking them to investigate if the attack was vandalism or antisemitism. As soon as news of the attack filtered out, Tunisian Jewish leaders hastened to deny it was an anti-Jewish incident, but a random act of vandalism. Perez Trabelsi, who announced the attack, later said that the attack could not be confirmed. Mr Ghozlane claims that the synagogue was not attacked on 31 January, but on 13 January, following the death of a French/Tunisian professor in the region. But if this was the case, why did it take 18 days for the attack to come to light? Souhail Ftouh, a pro-Israeli Tunisian blogger, thinks the attack was more likely to have coincided with the return to Tunisia of Rashid Ghannouchi, the leader of the Tunisian Muslim Brotherhood. The efforts of the Jewish leaders to relativise and downplay the attack was symptomatic of their 'dhimmitude' which will eventually result in Tunisia's remaining 1,600 Jews leaving, as Jews and Christians have done elsewhere in the Arab world, Mr Ftouh remarked.
