BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.18.11)
Everything is an obstacle to the peace process, plain and simple, the Arabs don't want it, they want all of Israel, Judenrein All you have to do is read BOTH the PLO Charter & the Hamas Covenant, They are both quite clear about destroying Israel Pssst I hate to tell you there was no peace before the settlements were built, constant attacks came from those areas, that's why the settlements were built, just like the forts in the Old American West, for defensive purposes
32. pa @UN
steve   (02.18.11)
the US should veto the resolution re: Israeli settlers because it's good for the US! Elect a new Prime Minister if you want #5 but you don't walk out of our established peace negotiations like Abbas did and expect our thanks. Bibi could have give Obama the extra 90 days (they'd be over by now and would have further exposed Pali intransigence.) But Abbas spit on you and the US when he refused to talk during Bibi's settlement freeze. This resolution has nothing to do with peace because they want it only on their terms. The US should veto this.
33. security counil resolution vetoed
mohson   (02.18.11)
US recognizing its only trusted ally in the middle east vetoed the resolution against settlements. Yet behind the moslem non permanent members who slavishly go along with the PLO, look who votes with the arabs-england, france, china and russia. China and russia do this strictly for oil and advantage. But the UK and france voted for the resolutin to placate their arab citizens who are planning for sharia government down the road with their high birth rate. What a gutless duo-churchhill and napolean are rolling in their graves at the weaklings running their countries. And russia who keeps getitng burned by moslem republic fighters, ever since yeltsin left the scene, its back to the old soviet guns and oil strategy until a moslem terrorist blows up moscow and kills 10,000 ruskis. Then they will wake up and vote properly. And china,w ith its good people tolerates a lunatic regime north korea and is not playing the proper role as it is blinded by economics.
34. Chaim is INCORRECT
james ,   canada   (02.18.11)
Wishful thinking was never a valid substitute for cold facts. The Arab demographic time bomb is A COLD FACT. Thus making it imperative to quickly accomodate the Arab Israelis with a one state solution or a two state solution while relinquishing East Jerusalem to the Palestinians....Keep on dreaming Chaim until one day a democratized and nuclear Muslim world ends up being pushed by its populations to confront Israel militarily . A lose-lose solution for everybody.
35. Rodney Dangerfield gets more respect!
Barry ,   Tokyo   (02.18.11)
The community organizer needs to show some balls
36. #24 Jim, that's agreat idea
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.18.11)
First get a brain for yourself
37. pa@ the UN
steve ,   chicago   (02.18.11)
#7: you are so right!! We need a spine and a clean veto would send the right signal that $2billion (probably more) in training and bribes just to drag these guys into a room to talk with Israel doesn't mean you can try to embarrass us. Unfortunately, Prez dithered so much with Abbas, he sent the wrong signal already.
38. pa @ UN
steve   (02.18.11)
Not exactly #22. Abbas yes, but Netanyahu choked and recognized the right to a Palestinian state a 180 degree switch on his party to appease Obama. Then he DID A SETTLEMENT FREEZE. And Abbas spit on both of them running the clock to keep it going. Netanyahu should have called their bluff and given Obama the extension, but he gave Obama a lot more deference than Abbas.
39. Poor poor cavs
ZoomZoom ,   Cleveland   (02.18.11)
NEXT YEAR! you'll see next year the Indians Cavs Browns and Barons'll win. And we'll have peace in the mid east too
40. 30 - negotiations made simple
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (02.18.11)
Could you do us all a favour and go and learn some English before you write in this English language Talkback? Let's give you a hand. Israel occupies the West Bank? Right? No one except the settlers accepts this as legal. Right? Every time we do an opinion poll on the 2 States Solution - remember that one? - a majority always supports it. That means a state for us and a state for the Palestinians. OK so far? Then we had the leaks of the concessions the Palestinians were willng to make for peace with us? Remember? So, now, if we are going to hold talks to reach a deal we need to agree - that's us Israel which is in illegal occupation of the West Bank - that the settlements will be exchanged for peace. A UN resolution condemning what EVERYONE believes is wrong with the obvious exceptions as above, is as clear a message to the settlers, and the weak indecisive Government under Bibi Netanyahu, that as the rest of us all know, the settlements are illegal. We also know that the occupation is destroying us from the inside. If the USA backs the resolution, or even just abstains, that's the right message to send. Its a message that's simple enough - the country that gives us $3 billion+ every year is fed up and won't blindly support us if we carry on illegally occupying the West Bank and refusing to return to negotiations. Got It? Shabbat Shalom
41. Veto
Jorge el judio ,   Israel/USA/Argentina   (02.19.11)
Since 1948 the UNSC looks a joke. If Israel defend herself they rush to condemn her. If Israel build they rush to condemn her. Is there any country to condemn the provocation of Iran with the wa ships?
42. The USA was never a friend
Joseph   (02.19.11)
The USA was never a friend to the Palestinian people--the only thing it has done is subsidize the occupation and create a "false" peace process while Israel illegally seizes Palestinian lands and ethnically cleanses the West Bank. Hamas was right--Israel will never make peace with the Palestinians and Abbas and the PA are fools for trusting America to mediate the process.
43. Bravo USA
James ,   Canada   (02.19.11)
More illegal Israeli settlements is sure to bring peace. Bravo!
44. Jim # 24
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (02.19.11)
In that case you should already be well on the way to understanding Sarah B.
45. #34. Arab "demographic bomb" is a proven hoax.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.19.11)
#34 James. The Arab "demographic bomb" is a proven hoax. It is not longer in doubt. Although those who want to pressure Jews to leave much of our Homeland (like yourself?) still pretend it is real. Numerous highly credible American and Israeli studies show that: 1) The P.A. deliberated overstated the Arab population of Judea and Samaria by over 1,000,000 for obvious political reasons. 2) Arabs are emigrating from Judea and Samaria by the tens of thousands annually. With proper incentives, Israel could raise this to the hundreds of thousands. 3) The Jewish birthrate is climbing while the Arab birthrate is falling. Net result: Jews are a growing majority in Israel, including Judea and Samaria.
46. #2 I hope democracy comes to the "PA"
Lobo ,   USA   (02.19.11)
Then when Hamas wins, Israel will have even more reason to transfer all of you "Palestinians" to Jordan, where you belong.
47. "..the opinion of 130 UN member states."
bernard Ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (02.19.11)
More states than had had no problem with the slaughter of jews.
48. US asserts who is boss
Robert ,   NY USA   (02.19.11)
The US took the opportunity to slap back the growing influence of Arab monarchs, militia groups, and Iran. In case they forgot. The US is against the 'settlers' in politics and talk, but it doesn't effect their vital interests.
49. Abbas Shuns Obama
Brian ,   Los Angeles USA   (02.19.11)
This is one of the funniest things I've heard. Obama creates the issue of settlements being an obstacle and now can't get his benefactor off of it. What did he think? Possibly the worst foreign policy President ever. Has perfected the art of emboldening the intransigent and beating the crap out of our friends.
50. Who in the hell does Abbas think he is?
Rick ,   Sharon, CT   (02.19.11)
Abbas is the fake "president" of a fake "country" of a fake people. How long did he think he could bluff the President?
51. To "Ussishkin", an innocuous note
Gábor Fränkl ,   Bp, H   (02.19.11)
You know my friend, irrespective of your specious arguement which I neither acknowledge nor respect, one as a human being immediately sees the desperation of a wound-up snob the second we see the obnoxious - and weirdly self-defeating - condescension, hubris, conceit and vanity put on display by your mocking of talkbacker Ben Jabo's supposedly less than immaculate English skills. Please get stuffed - and I expressed myself here as an English genetleman...
52. ***Sarah***at 4, Those retards are the
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (02.19.11)
most reliable allies of Israel...hopefully they will NEVER change...!!!
53. 30 - Obama rules a country with 300 million plus people ,...
split ,   US   (02.19.11)
Exactly what I mean dear Enstein , as such you don't put your prestige on line and ask for something where's a risk that you don't get it ,... Obama rules nothing , Capitol Hill does it ,...
54. #42; Joseph, Why would they be?
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (02.19.11)
First the USA is an honest broker. But why would you want to be friends with: 1) people responsible for lines at airports? 2) For those who assassinated Robert Kennedy in 1968. 3) Those who target civilians with rocket attacks. 4) Refuse to come to the peace table without preconditions. 5) Those who lie repeatedly to the public (Gaza is starving etc.), just to gain PR sympathy. 6) Those who are presently in a civil War among their leadership. 7) When settlements are NOT illegal, and while they may not approve of them, the USA will not give the Arab stance any legitimacy either. The list goes on, but you get thew point.
55. #53 Split/Schizo
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.19.11)
Obama rules via Capitol Hill, that's how he manged to force Obama Care, the takeover of the car companies, change the rules under which Wall Street operates At this very moment Obama is trying to exert his rule in Wisconsin, or haven't you read the papers or seen TV in the last couple of days, he has mobilized his PERSONAL politcal machine in any atempt to frustrate the Gov. of Wisconsin's trying to bring the state budget into line Obama is the dog, Capitol Hill is the tail, get it ? Your address indicates you're in the USA, you sound more like you'e from Mars
56. 55 - Don't tell me ho my Goverment work , Einstein ,...
split ,   US   (02.19.11)
57. Chaim you are in denial!
James ,   Canada   (02.20.11)
Chaim, you have no official data to back your eccentric claims! Indeed there is ample scientific evidence that point to the fact that not only is the Palestinian birthrate much higher than the Jewish Israeli one but in fact the Palestinian birthrate is actually the highest one in the world. Now it is obvious that you are not only delusionnal in your zionist utopia but you fail to also realize that in today's emerging Arab world the inter-Arab borders are rapidly opening-up as it is already shown in the Rafah passage. You can imagine what will happen to the rest of the Arab world as it is democratizing itself! And so even if Israel would get rid of all of it's Arab citizens and all Palestinians-and it cannot- Israel would always remain surrounded by a huge Arab mass not to mention other non-Arab Muslim populations of the middle-east. I think that denying that Arabs are multiplying the way they are is the elephant in the room. It would be in Israel's interest to seek a peaceful and equitable settlement with Arab Israelis and Palestinians while Israel still has the military upper hand and while it still can use it's American Veto against the entire Free world including every other permanent member of the U.N Security council. Peace.
