31. Question for Salma, really an actual question.
Dan ,   chicago, usa   (02.20.11)
Salma, you seem to have a connection with the needs and goals of Palestinians. As I see it, Iran backs Hamas, Hamas frequently attempts to kill PA leadership and overthrow the West Bank government. Given this context, how do you actually feel about an Iranian warship in the Mediterranean? How would you want Israel to respond? How would you want the PA to respond? Do you think most Palestinians feel similarly? Also, are you located in the West Bank, Gaza or somewhere else? Thanks for the thoughts.
32. #28 Israel's friends
dan ,   chicago, usa   (02.20.11)
Israel has many friends. Friends sometimes disagree on some issues, even as they agree on other issues. In fact, Merkle from Germany just concluded a major head-of-state visit to Israel where she discussed many topics of mutual agreement and some of disagreement too. That's what friendship IS. Israel has diplomatic relations with 154 countries and growing, including a number of friendly relationships in the middle east. Exceptions include Iran, and those countries that are proxies for Iran. Of course, that's not surprising: Iran really IS isolated. In this respect, Israel is no different than pretty much the entire world. Which leads us back to the Suez Canal. Nations of the world are watching with concern, and relying on their friend Israel for intelligence information. If action becomes necessary, the nations of the world will look to their friend Israel as the first line of defense for everybody's safety.
33. "Israel would need to boost defense spending "
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.20.11)
Are American taxpayers ready?! as usual, "Israel" is trying to take advantage of the change that has happened , No matter how small or big it is!
34. #32
Shlomo Kamera   (02.20.11)
You obviously missed the news that your friends voted against you en masse in the UNSC in favour of Palestine-except big sister USA of course! Go Iran! BDS
35. calm down Israel... according to the accompanying photo
seadog1946 ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (02.20.11)
that is an unarmed, underway replenishment (food, fuel, munitions, etc) vessel... every blue water navy has them.
36. Double standards
Robert ,   Brisbane Australia   (02.20.11)
By the standards of the majority of posters here Iran would be justified in depth charging Israeli submarines lurking off the coast of Iran. Iran has every right to pass through the canal without the catcalling of Lieberman the bouncer.
37. #31 Dan,
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.20.11)
I'm temporarily located in Ramallah , I'll go back to Akka soon "hope so" ; ) I wouldn't "Israel" to respond, but Mr. Lieberman has hinted that there will be "Israel's" response if the two ships will cross into the Mediterranean sea, I'm looking forward to know what this response will be "if it will be" just out of curiosity no less no more. oh by the way... you're welcome.....any time : )
38. SARAH AND HAL WILL PAY DOUBLE....#33
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (02.20.11)
The tax as they are more concerned than others.:)
39. What is Israel waiting for?
Brod ,   USA   (02.20.11)
The Ayatollahs' ships are not sailing there for a joy ride. They are there to supply heavy weaponry to their tentancles in the region. Their objective is to kill Israelis and destroy Israel. Israel should defend itself by preempting these ships. This is called deterrence. Failure to do so will only embolden them to send more convoys of supply ships to arm their tentacles with giant missiles and nukes intended to obliterate Israel. They are tightening the noose around Israel's neck. Israel should not just wait there like an idiotic sitting duck waiting for a mega Holocaust to happen.
40. YNET on Facebook
Ayalla ,   Israel   (02.20.11)
I would like to know WHY you keep posting articles on the the English version of FB YNET that serve little but to encourage anti semetic rhetoric. Surely you can find better ways of engaging and enlighting the international community?
41. Egypt
Sherif ,   Egypt   (02.20.11)
#9 Buddy, Egypt never bows to anyone ....... and let anyone try to take back Sinai and that will be the darkest day for him dont b stuupid.
42. @ 39 You are right but Israel will blame Obama
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA-ISRAEL   (02.20.11)
You are so right. Israel needs to MAN-UP and protect it's people and stop waiting for Obama. Obama and the American people want no part of any war. The American people want to maintain the American dream or what's left of it. It is now time for Israel to MAN-UP and protect itself.
43. To: No. 33
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.20.11)
No worries, bubbeleh. The money will come from the reduction in aid to the "Palestinian" Authority. See how easy that was?
44. whining and crying is an established jewish tradition
Marwan ,   Tel Aviv, Palestine   (02.20.11)
45. Iran no doubt is looking to intimidate the eastern med.
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (02.20.11)
what does the EU and the US have to say about this PROVOCATION!? Anything ...? The iranian jihadists are dying to goad the Israelis into attacking anything iranian - hence the ships in the Med. DO NOT give the jihadists what they want. Just keep track of every movement and keep them away from Gaza as no doubt these ships are loaded with weapons and possibly crude uranium.
46. The ships have gone through! But before you sink them...
Gobbo   (02.20.11)
According to the latest reports, Iran took advantage of a sandstorm which prevented spy satellites from detecting the passage of the ships through the Canal. Also, Egypt has been complicit with Iran by pretending to delay the ships passing through until Monday. This whole effort has been coordinated by Iran, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, which normally blocks Iranian ships at their source. Iran is in turmoil. The people are rioting, the economy is a shambles, and inflation has driven prices painfully high. Ahmadinejad might WANT Israel to attack the ships in the hope that such a move will unite Iranians and divert their attention from how bad they have it at home. Should Israel attack the ships and unite Iranians behind their leaders? Is such unity even possible, considering how divided Iranians are? Can Israel afford to play political games while these ships are likely transporting long-range missiles to Hezbollah, weapons which are too big to be smuggled to them in the usual manner? If a regional war breaks out in the wake of Israel sinking the ships, will Israel be adequately supplied? Who will join the fray? Turkey? Egypt? What will Obama's response be? Contrary to what some folks have written here, there WILL be great sympathy for Israel if she sinks the Iranian ships. In any case, if they're transporting deadly weapons, Israel probably won't just sit back and let it happen. After all, she stopped one Iranian ship carrying weapons a few years ago. Why set a dangerous new precedent now?
47. 35 seadog1946, Ong's Hat, NJ USA: You underestimate
Rivkah   (02.20.11)
Israel's enemies who have tried before to get a ship loaded with explosives and dirty nuke materials close enough to run it aground on Israel's beeches and then explode it. Also, a missile that can cause EMP or biological warfare hits or chemical warfare hits or nuclear hits can be launched from any ship, even merchant marine vessels. Iran has cruise type missiles called Sunburn or Sunburst missiles that fly below radar and can be nuclear tipped that can blow an aircraft carrier out of the sea with one hit. You need to see the photos I have seen of ambulances and garbage trucks in Gaza that lift up backwards like a dump truck unloading, exposing the ports of missile launchers in a row across the front of the lifted portion that can fire missiles at Israel.
48. #43 Sarah ,remember my darling

53. This is a time for action.
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (02.20.11)
Not Words. Those ships are not moving LOLIPOPS, Hum ! ?
54. Marwan, you must be thinking of Palestinians at the UN
Gobbo   (02.20.11)
Nobody whines and cries more than supporters of the Palestinians, who have hijacked the UN for their own agenda, and who stage endless rallies and boycotts in cities all over the world, ramming their misery down everyone else's throat. In fact, whining and crying is your ONLY tradition, other than spewing medieval bigotry and malicious lies about Jews, without whom you never would have had a religion in the first place.
55. Gobbo #46
Brod ,   USA   (02.20.11)
The young Democrats in Iran couldn't careless about their hated Ayatollahs' arms ships being sunk. In fact, they would like to see the fanatical tyrants being toppled so that they could breathe fresh air of freedom and liberty instead of being oppressed by the fanatical Islamist-Jihadist tyrannical rulers who stone them back to the Dark Ages, hang them using cranes, kill them in cold blood as they march through the streets crying for freedom and liberty. Worrying who will supply arms to Israel when the going gets tough is plain excuse over nothing. Judeo-Christian America will always support Israel through its Congress. If Obama tries to sabotage in such an effort, Congress will impeach him in a hurry. It is Congress that can and will declare war against enemies of the America and America's friends and allies. Furthermore, Israel has a Samson Option that can do the job of defending itself the most efficient way against its enemies ganging up on her like big bullies Goliaths trying to exterminate little David.
56. #48 salma, "palestinians" have no real lobby in US.
john q. average   (02.20.11)
therefore fayyad can be told to "go fly a kite" without too much consequence.
57. Israel should prepare the nation
Brod ,   USA   (02.20.11)
Israel should prepare the nation to face its enemies the way it did in 1967. Israel's enemies will pounce on Israel they way they did in 1973. It is time for Israel to expect the worst, and to defeat their enemies with a 1967 stealth precision neutralization of its enemies. This will give stability and quiet in the region for the next 50 or more years.
58. A big Suicide Bomb
Ken ,   Australia   (02.20.11)
This could be a plan to have a large suicide bomb built right into a whole frigate, imagine if this thing is rigged to go off, if it gets attacked, Maybe there are thousands of suicide bombers on deck being dispatched to syria also, or all the crew are those suicide trained combatants, theres no doubt they are prepareing for a clash.
59. #41 Egypt...
Yaniv ,   USA   (02.20.11)
Ok so the country "Egypt never bows to anyone" but we just saw the whole country bow to their people.... "Taking back of the Sinai..will be the darkest day for him [those that want to take it back]" do you even realize how Israel took over the Sinai, we completely surrounded, out flanked, out smarted, out gunned the ENTIRE EGYPTIAN ARMY, now if Israel wants to take back the Sinai it will be even easier then last time, this time the army is preoccupied with trying (key word) to run the gov't are spread out everywhere with no real leader, so please explain how it will be "the darkest day" for Israel when they take back Sinai, the only way I could think of would be the mass amount of smoke from all the bombed out planes, tanks, and other vehicles...
60. #28 Haider and #32 Dan
Maurice ,   Montreal   (02.20.11)
Heider, Dan is absolutely right. Also, you seem to forget that the security council is only 15 countries! Canada for instance, my country, which is not in the security council, has on many occasions (and very recently again) has declared TOTAL commitment to Israel's security. So, you arguments are only empty wishful thinking.
