1. All this talk of democracy .....
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (02.27.11)
Maybe we should think about democracy for Israel as well? Is the Party List system democratic? Why can't we vote for individual candidates so we can hold them accountable? What about our Supreme Court? Certainly nothing democratic about that institution. What's democratic about a country suffocating under a monstrous collection of unelected bureaucracies in which gov't. regulations favour the concentration of wealth to a few families? An oligarchy is not a democracy.
2. Two Terms limits or not
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.27.11)
The Egyptian Military will make certain that their man is first and foremost to get to be a figurehead President, acting under the orders of the General Staff So it has been, so it will be !! The Military has been in charge for more than 60 years, they intend to keep it that way
3. egyptians: which war-mongering islamists will you choose?

Terry, while I don't disagree with your desire to directly elect individuals based upon districts, this still constitutes a form of democracy somewhat prevalent in much of the world. Instead of voting for candidates we currently vote for ideology, something I believe will definitely change if Israel is to evolve politically and socially. Regarding the Supreme Courts, I can't think of a single nation where the individuals placed upon it are voted on by the people. Most Supreme Court justices worldwide in democratic nations are placed there by the man in charge at the time of a vacancy, so in that case, relax a bit. That's why we have elected officials to approve the supreme court candidacies. But your conclusion is wrong, this isn't an oligarchy, it is a democracy. Granted it is not the shape we currently want, but one day it will shift as these older leaders and their obsolete ideologies and systems start to fade and a younger more vibrant leadership emerges.

The NEXT President of Egypt will be a MILITARY MAN or a front man for the Military So it is written, so it will be done, for now and long into the future Would anyone care to make a sucker bet to the contrary ?
10. EGYPT WOULD DO WELL TO ADOPT ISRAEL MODEL
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (02.27.11)
Elected or not,a strong president is the last thing that Egypt needs. The temptations to milk the people are always too great in a society like Egypt's.You would have that that they'd have learnt their lesson. Much better a weak president selected by parliament who is only a functionary and temporary figurehead as in Israel. That way,the people have power via their government and parliament.Democracy is more than elections. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
