31.  No Turkish Islamic Trojan Horse
(03.02.11)
in E.U !! NEVER
32. To: No. 27
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.02.11)
Yes. Of course. Turkey has not engaged in meaningful armed conflict since Galipoli (the First World War). The invasion of Cyprus was akin to shooting fish in a barrel, and mowing down unarmed innocent Kurdish civilians is beyond reprehensible. Since joining NATO, Turkey has been invited to participate in NATO's military endeavors, but has consistently begged off, citing the delicacy of being a predominantly Moslem nation going against other Moslems. I do believe that Turkey contributed office staff in Afghanistan, but that's it. Non-combatant "troops" only. In sum, Turkey has not been successful in a real military conflict since January 1916. That is what I meant by "militarily tested." Frankly, Turkey was kicked to the curb every other instance following Galipoli -- which is why Turkey is no longer an Empire, get it?

35. David Karmielo @ 13
03.03.11   (03.02.11)
Please David when referring to the muslim king of kings please do not write it in capitals. The KING OF KINGS belongs to only to one man and He was born in ISRAEL. He has nothing to do with being an arab. His return is very, very soon and we non-muslims better be on our tip toes! It certainly won't take HIM a second to sort out the muslim non-believers. MARK MY WORDS!
36. #35 IF I GET YOUR DRIFT.....

Actually, Turkey is a member of NATO, but not exactly a member in good standing, It would like to be admitted to the European Union, but that is not going to happen. In fact, there is a strong likelihood that NATO will boot out Turkey, and all those NATO bases in Turkey will be transferred to U.S. allies further East, or to the Greek Aegean. That would be an enormous blow to the Turkish economy (which is not doing all that well to begin with) because they represent a highly lucrative source of income to Turkey. Turkey had a choice -- closer ties to the West, or closer ties with Iran. Predictably enough, Turkey made the wrong choice. Oh well. Not the first time; probably not the last, either.
38. In exchange for EU membership
RC ,   USA   (03.02.11)
If Turkey wants to prove itself to the EU to become a member, then Turkey should help take on Iran, although I doubt that NATO can even trust it with those plans.
39. # 35 Anon.
Birdi ,   Israel   (03.02.11)
Oh dear ! David did not write king of kings in capitals. Look again, he wrote it in inverted comas, like this, "king of kings" Do learn to read English before you post here & make a fool of yourself.
40. #4 It is not smart
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (03.02.11)
Goodness, haven't you got enough problems with Moslems in Britain! Seems the talkbacks I read on British online papers show a British public sick and tired of the way the government bows to the Moslem world, the way ordinary Brits cannot say a word against Moslems or Islam whiel Moslems attack the whole way of life in Britain with the mad mullahs having a field day. If Turkey joins the EU Europe, including Britain of course, will be swamped with hundreds and thousands of Moslems. It would be a disaster to let a country such as turkey into the EU.
41. Is this Obama for real?
Tahl   (03.02.11)
I had to read it twice to make sure I got it right: the American president is actually meddling in an internal European matter, and supports the entry of a terror-friendly Islamic state into the EU? The same Turkey which organized the "peace" flotilla, demonized and threatened Israel, and became close buddies with Iran? Is this president for real? Do Americans know what this clown is up to?...
42. #40 has been reading UK Tabloids
Ian ,   Glasgow, Scotland   (03.03.11)
Come off it Madeleine! I live in the UK. We are not 'under attack' from Muslims and 'mad mullahs', and I can assure you that most people in the UK do not believe their way of life is threatened by Islam. Don't believe everything you read on the Daily Mail's readers forums! Immigration of large numbers of people of a different culture always creates some tensions in the host nation. The immigration of Ashkenazi Jews to Britain in the late 19th Century provoked a similar xenophobic reaction in the populace to the one you're advocating against muslims. But it is just this type of immigration that has made the UK a more interesting and diverse society.
43. Peace in Libya n on Earth!
Liberal ,   -   (03.03.11)
This is a situation where the tough gets going the going gets tough.Give Colonel Gaddafi and Libyans a break! If you want reform, history tells us it will never be resolved through anti government, protest, that will only end up in blood shed.Resolve it through negotaations n peaceful tallks.

45. ignorance is bliss
ali ,   mersin turkey   (03.08.11)
reading the comments up above I've been horriefied and now do ı understand why Turkish people on the street has long gave up dreams of EU. Wake up you smart....s Turkey no longer wishes to be a EU member and the their market place. And Gaddafi is already Turkey's man. He is a graduate of Turkish Military academy in Istanbul. More to that, you are soooo educated to believe Turkey is going to attack somewhere when it really does not need to. Wax in your world I dare you! I am not turkish nor favor turkish politics but it would be the stupidest mistake to underestimate them
