1. lawyers
Meir ,   London   (03.09.11)
what the article does not point out is that most lawyers earn a very low wage in Israel and only a few earn a lot.
2. 50K Lawyers for a population of 7.5 M is nuts
Al   (03.09.11)
The problem may be that lawyers need not have a BA before being called to the Bar. Its evident in the low caliber lawyers all so evident in Israeli society.
3. Israel needs more engineers, scientists, fewer lawyers
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (03.09.11)
The former are building up and strengthening the country. The lawyers, not so much.
4. There's a simple solution.
Shai ,   il   (03.09.11)

Alek ,   USA   (03.10.11)
I'm an attorney. In the US, you can make a decent living. In Israel, it's a joke.
9. Lawyers are useless . Israel needs doctors !
(03.10.11)
10. Bunch of leeches
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (03.10.11)
The most reprehensible profession. Watching the same leeches defending arch criminals again and again on the TV just makes one want to throw up - how they act as their clients' spokespersons. It's disgusting.
11. More Lawyers vs Less Doctors
Nora Tel Aviv   (03.10.11)
Means that the Socety is sicker.
12. but most of these lawyers are engaged in research
oferdesade ,   israel   (03.10.11)
they're replacing lab rats coz: 1. less chance researchers will get personally attached to them 2. there's a lot more lawyers than rats 3. there's some things even a rat wouldnt agree to do (defending katzav...).
13. Supply and demand
Alfie Knowkes ,   Golan   (03.10.11)
Israeli's are so busy with combinot, and back room dealing that most choose to overlook the law. Kibbutzniks believe they are above the labour laws of the country, moshavniks above the land laws, everyone is above the rules of the road.....and on it goes. So you need lawyers to argue on your behalf......or the country needs to grow up, take individual responsibility for actions, hang all the corrupt leaders that set this example......and build a bigger "unsinkable"boat for the excess lawyers!
14. The main thing preventing me form making Aliyah
Aaron ,   Australia   (03.11.11)
In Australia I'm likely to make $40-50k in my first year out of law school. It's not an amazing amount, but it's enough for me to live a pretty good life. In Israel I'd have to do stage again and work like a slave for ridiculous wages, and after a few years I'd be lucky to hit $30,000 per year. The legal profession in Israel is flooded and degraded. When any shmuck can go be a lawyer, and shape the legal system and policies of a country, you're just asking for a mess. Every country needs lawyers and they play an important role in society - but their numbers should be reasonable, and they need to be intelligent, educated people who understand ethics and policy and the bigger picture of what they're doing, not just greedy money-seeking *****.
