1. Peace
Jorge el judio ,   Israel/USA/Argentina   (03.04.11)
There is a difference between "PEACE" and "LEVAVE US ALONE" I prefer the second one that is more effective. As remainder all countries involved in the WWII have not peace treated, thet had after WWI
2. THIS LOVE REVOLUTION -
Orao. ,   Srbia-   (03.04.11)
- WILL BE COUNTERACTED, BY A WAR AGAINST ISRAEL I THINK ? Orao.Srbia.
3. Very positive reading. At last, an Arab
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (03.04.11)
reformist who doesn't blame Israel, doesn't even think Israel is part of the picture; an Arab who takes responsibility for his own and his people's future. This is the kind of leader we really could make peace with.
4. Model of the Iraqi opposition gone never to return: )
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.04.11)
Farid Ghadry , you're worse than Bashar al-Assad, you have no shame, If you think you can tickle the Syrians , you're an illusion . if you want really help the Syrians go to your country and resist from there, you're not better than the hundreds of political prisoners in syria. Arab peoples are tired of you and your speeches, too
5. NO. 4 SALMA, WELL SAID
Syrain   (03.04.11)
Couldn't say It better .
6. No. 4
A.B. Hussein ,   Baghdad Iraq   (03.04.11)
Every time Farid AlGhadry writes an article in Israeli newspaper about freedom in Syria, Assad sends his hacks (Like No. 4) to diminish his work. This is a courageous man who is helping his country and No. 4 job is to protect Assad the killer of Iraqis. Ghadry is more dangerous to Assad than any other opposition. Maybe that is why Salma or Chanel No. 4. reeks of Assad
7. Observation
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.11)
It would be interested to learn how Syria's military forces are leaning. In February 1982, the Syrian ruthlessly suppressed an uprising (I grant you that the uprising was fomented by the Moslem Brotherhood and there were probably very good reasons for the suppression) to the tune of an estimated 40,000 lives, including women, the elderly and small children. It was ruthless. I am curious to know whether Assad can count on the support of his armed forces in present-day protests (let's assume peaceful), or if the rank and file of the Syrian military are likely to side with the demonstrators.
8. To: No. 4
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.11)
You are being delusional again. I can only surmise that you are absolutely devastated to learn that the overwhelming majority of the Arab and Moslem world does not care a whit about the ersatz "Palestinians." We've been telling you that for years, and warned you it was time to get on with your lives, but you preferred your delusional fantasy of being the most important thing on everyone's mind and numero uno on everyone's agenda. Truth hurts, ya'habibti. No one cares about you. The only people that ever really cared about you were the Jews, but seven decades of ersatz "Palestinian" terror have pretty much negated that in toto. Time to move on. You are old news.
9. #6 ha ha ha ha ha ha, dude, you make me laugh : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.04.11)
do you really belive that Assad is "Israel's" enemy ?!?!?! The Syrian regime is the best friends of "Israel". Don't be fooled by the official Syrian drama.
10. Say YES to peace with Syria
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (03.04.11)
Peace with syria is of strategic value to Israel and should not be conditioned to who is in power. The syrian people are the ones who need to revolt and remove assad from power.
11. To: No. 10
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.11)
Yes, but the Golan Heights are not now, or at any time in the future, on the table. Israel has formally annexed the Golan Heights and not even five centuries of "peace" with Syria (an unlikely scenario at best) will change that. The Golan is part of Israel. Period. Full stop. Not negotiable. Ever.
12. To: A.B. Hussein at No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.11)
Thank you for your well-reasoned and articulate post. Please pay no mind to the lunatic ravings of the poster at No. 9. She is delusional at best and has yet to contribute anything of substance. I can tell you with certainty that those of us who are truly interested in a free forum for ideas and enjoy a serious and informed debate of the issues welcome your contribution.

Sarjoun ,   kfar Molhid   (03.04.11)
ersatz goyem... all these recist stuipid vocabs show in what illusional world you are living in.. Israel in 2-5 years will be fighting and negotiating to sign a treaty based on 67 boarders and if lucky they will be able to sign on 48 UN boarders.. and Golan it is Syrian it has always been and it will always be... eat your heart out and cash your pay check and try to save they will not be able to pay you for a long time. the history has already changed even if you are too blind to see it... Dinosaur
14. It's all about our women
Jason ,   Denver, CO.   (03.04.11)
Just a great article, truly. If Syria's step toward democracy is led by Syrian women, it would be a blessing like no other. Honestly, the biggest problem in the Arab world is the treatment of women and access to equal opportunity. When half of your workforce and brain power is held back, you will never have real democracy nor a successful economy. Arab men need to stand up for democracy more for their sisters and daughters than for themselves-
15. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.11)
Keep drinking the Kool Aid. Don't forget to keep in mind exactly HOW those borders came about in 1948 and exactly HOW those borders came about in 1967 and ask yourself if you really, truly think it would be wise for any Arab country to challenge Israel again. It hasn't gone all that well for you in the past. It will get considerably worse for you in the future. I suggest you temper your valor with a bit of discretion, lest you make Israel very, very angry.
16. Life is hard in Israel also too RIGHT ???
M.S. ,   mpls america   (03.05.11)
I agree with you that the economy is not structured well unfortunately unlike the British Americans so on the middle east was controled by Mandates that stole every thing then after plundering all Arab Jewish wealth they left what followed was chaos the only order was by brute force this led to wealth for a few poverty for most the problem is that Assad does not realize he is doing exactly whut the British French colonial mandate masters people want he continues to seek peace with Israel rather than a honorable war soldiers die in battle but they believe they die for a greater cause thus this instills in them a sense of nationial pride honor they rather die fighting in Libya one 1 example than live with the shame of never fighting men fight women run house holds Assad misses this point his father had a war in 1973 Assad needs his own war money is nice but with out the war each generation needs money is no good brings only problems not happiness thus the cure is not peace but a war with Israel it may last what 30 days but after it is all over Syria will be pure again cleansed of the poisions you speak of women will be happy some soldiers may die but those who live on will have pride honor rather than shame learn from Libya Syria LEARN FROM LIBYA RIGHT ??? Thank You.. M. S.
17. Why does Assad get ALL the money RIGHT ???
M.S. ,   mpls america   (03.05.11)
I realize in most countrys there are many wealthy rich people thus why in Syria Assad has ALL the money is beyond me what is with Syria alas it is hard to understand Arab civilizations but then Israel suffers a lot like Syria also too certain people are denyed the minimium amount of money needed to sustain life barely exist a real shame Assad only cares to have a money monopoly power the practicial factors are beyond me America has at least a middle class but Syria has almost no middle class what I still think is a Syria Israel war would solve things RIGHT ??? Thank You... M.S.
18. #13 Wanna bet on it?
Tahl   (03.05.11)
Of course you wouldn't. We both know you'd be losing your money. We both know that in 5 years, Israel would still be here, strong as ever. We both know, that you people have been saying the exact same thing for over 60 years, and the only place Israel has gone all this time is upward and forward. We both know you people cannot defeat us - after so many failures, even meatheads like you finally realized it. We both know you are just venting. But hey, if it makes you feel better, keep writing these silly talkbacks to yourself. Knock yourself out.
19. Sarah, regarding the Golan
Tahl   (03.05.11)
I fully agree with what you said about the Golan. Yet I want to strengthen your post with a few more facts: 1. The Golan was never really Syrian to begin with. To the best of my knowledge, it was held by Syria for only about 19 years, based on some arbitrary maps drawn up by some French statesman. While the Golan has been under Israeli control for 43 years, and a full part of Israel for 30 years now. 2. Unlike the West Bank, there are no 'occupied' Syrians living in the Golan, nor have there been any Syrian villages there (save Kunetra which is actually in the buffer zone). 3. Syria lost the Golan because it was an aggressor against Israel. 4. The day we'll give the Golan to Syria, would be a day after Turkey gives the occupied Iskenderoon region back to Syria. Frankly I won't be holding my breath.
20. 20 to 13

I was in the Viet Nam war at the time Israel thrashed your lot in1967.The whole world was amazed at the speed of the victory.Sarah B has given you good advise-I suggest you temper your valor too JD-Cairns Australia.

Absolutely, and thanks for expanding on the true provenance of the Golan Heights.
23. This about peoples livlihoods, not the Golan
Ernest ,   Jordan   (03.05.11)
People deserve better than this. During these times, with the turmoil in many of these predominately Arab and Islamic countries, it seems like it would be advantageous to consider how an economic system could be formulated to ensure that people would be able to maintain decent standards of living. This grouping of people, as noted, are recognized to hold beliefs that should be able to render them the kind of noble life they yearn to live, especially amongst their very own, and it can still be a humble one. Islam speaks of the noble Qu'ran and the Noble Sanctuary. And in as much as of what is spoken of for this faith, it's definitely seen in ways but in ways it looks like there are deficiencies to exhibiting it as the people who make the claims would like to see it work out. There is the sustenance, the dwelling and the garb that are important. But then not even being able to live the life as prescribed can make you feel about as void as being ready to live the life without having the overall sustenance to complete it. Is there an economic formula to help maintain the flock? It's not to ask, "Are you going to be able to do it?" as much as it is "Are we going to be able to do it?" because it's affecting many other people too. You have to believe that you can and then get to work, figure the priorities and do it. It has to be the best and right thing to do. It can be done with the support and the help of the people understanding their responsibilities too.
24. WOW! Very exciting article!

i support this guy
25. To: No. 23
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.11)
The garb is important? Perhaps that's a substantial part of the problem. Any "religion" that wraps women up like mummies needs some fixing. The rest of your post is really nothing but platitudes. You haven't articulated anything that everyone does not already know. The trick is to take it from the theoretical to actual practice. Sorry, but that is not something that Arabs are capable of doing. I suspect the faith plays a considerable role. There is a great deal wrong with Islam -- it is a cult that glorifies death and destruction, encourages wiping out the "infidel" (by which Islam means everyone that is not Moslem) and believes that women need to be subjugated. Before you tackle anything as serious as the ills that plague the Moslem and Arab world, try working on your "religion" first. Ridding it of the jihadist mentality would be a fine place to start. Good luck.
26. To 19 Tahl, you need a history lesson
Jan   (03.06.11)
There were hundreds of Syrian villages in the Golan Heights, demolished by Israel after the 1967 war.
27. Hussein Obama will never ever get this,
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (03.06.11)
for him it is about how to destroy Israel as soon as possible, to force Israel to give away it's own land for HIS agenda. Hussein Obama will NEVER EVER change his politics who are directed against the fudamental interests of the Jewish state, he has NO interest in even recognizing the root cause of the current turmoil in some Muslim states. Maybe Israel must first get rid of Assad, before it will be able to get rid of Obama...
