2. Absolutely Pathetic
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (03.04.11)
The subject line says it all. We can only grateful that the Haredi don't (yet) control Israel.
3. too sick to read this

i wana tell you one thing.,,,,,, this is sick sick sick
4. Another reason explains why there will never be peace!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.04.11)
5. This proves that Israelis are hateful
Markus (Norway)   (03.04.11)
It is no wonder that this tiny country is so much hated in the region and elsewhere... The reason is simple: You have so much hate that you do not respect anybody, not even your neighbours. Now, after you have put your neighbours into a cave (Palestinians), you start hating each other... Please do not call me anti-semitic... This is simplistic and wrong.
6. if it is true that the municipality paid for the fence....
Moi ,   Jerusalem   (03.04.11)
I am left with the following questions: If we must separate between Jew and Jew why is it that the same municipality is "gun-ho" on building haredi and orthodox communities in the middle of the various Moslem neighborhoods and villages in Jerusalem? Is the municipality saying that they are in favor of living with or near others as long as this is done according to the municipality's whims? Or am I meant to draw a whole different set of less than positive and less than beautiful images, concepts and ideas? and finally exactly why is my municipal arona (tax) shekel going to support these divisive measures?
7. Tolerance of seculars vs the intolerance of the religious
David ,   New York   (03.04.11)
It is by definition an easy proposition for seculars to tolerate the religious in a "live-and-let-live" approach. The mirror image of that rarely exists, however, where the religious can tolerate the secular in the same live-and-let-live policy, as the seculars' life style is contrary (even sacrilegious) to their believes. This is the same reason why predominantly Muslim cultures (religious) vs. the Western cultures (mostly secular) cannot co-exist. West's secular societies will tolerate and let live the religious values of Muslim societies, even if they don't approve, whereas the religious Muslim societies will be offended by Western values and lifestyles.
8. #5 Markus
solomon ,   bklyn   (03.04.11)
I agree this is simplistic and wrong. I believe this involves a holier-than-thou attitude on the part of many of the haredi and their control of Jerusalem City Hall (or the City Hall's buckling under). This is a problem in the society that not everyone is a party to. However it is not the reason why Israel is hated. Israel is hated because the arabs simply do not admit that Israel has a right to be there. They ignore history and even try to change it. The arabs want everything they want, without compromise, unilaterally. The closer the parties get towards a solution, the more the arabs become afraid and push away. If they are in a cave, they have dug it for themselves and moved in for the long haul, no matter how much the Israelis try to coax them out.
9. Arabs don't belong in Jerusalem...
Yossu ,   Canada   (03.04.11)
which is not mentioned even ONCE on the Quran..."palestine" not mentioned ONCE in the Quran while Israel is 50+ times.... sorry arabs, move to Jordan, your real "palestine"...alternatively, there's facebook...
10. I'm not sure
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (03.04.11)
how this translates into the haredi's fault. The municipality is dealing with an issue as they see best - the article says the parents weren't notified. Here in LA, the Chabad preschool has secular and religious kids and parents mixing, although the secular mothers, while they wear pants and don't cover their hair, do cover up when they pick up their kids. But LA is a big city and the religious see immodesty dressed people all the time, so we're desensitized to it.
11. Fence separates haredi, secular Jerusalem kids
lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (03.04.11)
This article gives rise to the epitome of the expression that 'WORDS FAIL ME'. It is conceivable that within a generation, unless the Israeli government pulls back from the brink, the next wall will be erected between the general population and the Haredi. How sick can the appeasers of intolerance and bigotry be to even contemplate this evil segregation. Israel is paying the price of electoral proportional representation, where the lunatic fringe blackmails the majority. It pains me to say that Israel will never be a true democracy and will the follow the path of the islamic jihadists, until it enforces integration not cultural segregation. Do you want to follow the examples of the UK and other western countries down the failed path of so called multiculturalism and its attendant intolerance and separation. I HOPE NOT!
12. What's next?
Ariel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.04.11)
This is a shame..... Some people should be living in Teheran, not in Jerusalem. In western countries discrimination is punishable. What are we waiting for????
13. Israeli Taliban in force. Sick.

14. #4 #5, your statements are misguided
Historical Observer ,   USA   (03.04.11)
#4 pretending to be a refugee, you'll comment on anything and call it an explanation for your troubles. Peace will happen when arabs become tolerant of Jews. #5, your comment without any further context may sound perfect to you, but it ignores the reality of our world. Muslims hate other muslims, christians hate other christians. Separation of cultures and groups is found everywhere. Where in this article do you hear hate as a motivation for the fence? All the quotes discuss respect and worry for their children, not hate as you incorrectly state. Sunnis will kill Shiite, imagine what a kindergarten school would look like with those parents next to each other. Hindu and Muslim (India and Pakistan) forced their people to leave their country because of their hate. As for Norway, we know how antisemitic that country truly is. School teachers turning a blind eye to students praising hitler for killing jews and how muslims there refuse to learn about the Holocaust. Not to mention the comedians and cartoons from a couple years back. I mean we could go on and on how simplistic and wrong your country is, but why bother?
15. #5 markus- incorrect nice generalization
Daniel ,   tel aviv   (03.04.11)
markus, what a ridiculous statement. what about the isaelis that fight for and protest against the african migrant deportations? are they hateful too? somehow you generalize all israelis as hateful because 2 kindergarten schools separated each other. i dont agree with the decision. but how can this prove that all israelis are hateful as a population? does a palestinian terror attack prove that all palestinians are terrorists? of course not, and i am sure you would disagree with that. does your comment prove that all people from norway say stupid things and make broad generalizations? i dont think so. but by your logic, yes it does. i hope my comment is not too above your understanding.

17. THIS WILL PREVENT HAREDI DESTRUCTION OF CHILDREN'S MINDS!
stude ham   (03.04.11)
18. separation.
universalist ,   the universe   (03.04.11)
down with separation, distinction/discrimination/segragation of people. the only distinction of people allowed at my opinion is the distinction between criminals and non-criminals. the world-population/mankind (despite several languages/histories/cultures/traditions/mentalities etc.) is one people. human behaviour is in every country/everywhere and perhaps always the same. we are all human (beings) we all need to breathe the same air and the same sun(light) in order staying alive. otherwise it means/will mean the end of all of us. we are all on the same boat/world/planet.
19. Depressing news - fence to isolate and not integrate beliefs

21. Markus # 5
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (03.04.11)
Yes, it's wrong but painting everyone in Israel with the same brush is wrong too. I don't blame all Norwegians just because you sound like a jerk.
22. Limits yes, but no cages
Max ,   Vienna   (03.04.11)
Humans/children are like fruits. They are alive, interact, sympatize naturally. It's reality that there are different concepts of life, if you ignore them or not. Bottling them up, might well ferment self-centered misunderstandings to poison in their souls - like alcohol. Limits are always well, but cages aren't. Respect thy neighbor.
23. Now i understand where the hatared is coming from
ZOOZ ,   GAZA   (03.04.11)
i thought its only against Palestenians and were convinced it was something coming from being enimies with the us that Isrealies are fonded with building walls , but now its clear to me that hatered is also coming from within and is directed to own citizens . I wounder what would you say if the school was Plaestenian ????
24. Not the Torah; just a European/Balkanized culture
iNetFraud ,   USA   (03.04.11)
It's so sad to see just how "secular" the Haredim behave: the majority of such actions are carried out almost solely by the ashkenazim who came via Europe. The impact that Europe had on these people conditioned them to behave in ways that are totally alien to the Torah and the religion of Judaism as a whole. This will only lead to bad things: as it always has. What a shame to see Israel so tattered into so many different mind-sets: from the outside, conceptually, it doesn't seem that Israel can last because of the in-fighting, ghetto mentalities, racism and prejudice among the Jews themselves. We Jews are our own worst enemies. I gues some things never change and some people are so hard-headed and arrogant that they think the universe revolves around their silly minhoggim and not Hashem's will. We will be paid back for our shortcomings once again as we were 2,000 years ago...and for the same, exact reasons. This article is disgusting to everyone who'll read it and must be, so despicable to Hashem. What an embarrassment and disgrace. Shame on us Jews for such backward behavior.
25. You are a bigot !! How's that for you !!
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (03.04.11)
The fence was put in to stop arab terrorists and if it saves one life ,its worthit. All you bigots are looking for any reason to bash Israel. At least admit you are a bigot aka anti-semite, you are a cowardly bigot. Stick that up your ........................!!!
26. A new fence
Tal ,   NY, USA   (03.04.11)
And yet another reason why we care less and less about Israel
27. very democratic
ale ,   italia   (03.04.11)
it's the lone ( for jews) democracy in middle east. with secolar kids, haredi kids, and goim kids...... many fences, many walls, everybody want to kill others.... with KIDS in the middle! that's israel 2011.....a new kind of democracy.
28. Lack of Understanding
lilili ,   ca   (03.04.11)
What disturbs me most of all is the knee-jerk reaction that automatically calls all of this wrong. Why is it wrong for Hareidi Jews to want to control what their children experience in school? What is it that causes people to hate what is only natural to religious Jews? Most parents shirk their responsibility in protecting their children by deciding what they can and cannot experience at a very young age. To automatically decry the Hareidim for wanting what all parents should want: the choice to raise their children actively, thoughtfully, and with respect to their religious faith or whatever they hold most important in life. I think it is the omnipresent hatred against religious Jews that prompts such outcry, and such a lack of understanding.
29. To # 28 YOU ARE WRONG!!!
Ariel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.04.11)
Sorry but you're wrong. They use democracy to get money from us ( the people that works and serve in the army) so the least they could do is to respect the people and the institutions that helps them and their families to live. With respect not with discrimination, hate, saying that whoever is a gentile or a non obsevant Jew is a bad person. We are fed up of this. You are welcome to take them back to the US!!! If they want to stay here, the should start to act as normal citizens( work for example) They should thanks us everyday of their lives.
30. Hate
