1. What will happen to us?
Daniel Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (03.05.11)
Does it mean now I will have to relocate my home from Samaria? Maybe it is time to vote to Livni.
2. It is time the Obama administration realized Israel is the
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.05.11)
longest and most reliable strong ally of the US in the region. Instead of attempting to undermine its security needs, including the preservation of strategic geographic depth, the Obama administration should foster good and warmer relationships with the nation-state of the Jewish people, its leaders and its people. But, honest to ill advise from the likes of Rev. Wright and Min. Farakhan and hostile "friends" as Friedman, Cohen and "J Street", the Obama administration, against all proper rational thinking, continues to demand of Israel that which, for national and security interests it simply can't and shouldn't deliver to a person who, in two years time, will go back to be a community leader in Chicago. We, Jews in general and Israeli Jews in particular, then will have to pay with our blood and the blood of our young due to Obama's theoretical "understanding" of a region he knows little about. It is time for a change...!!
3. Not at all.
Matt   (03.05.11)
The US has a two tier policy in which they have and will support the removal of dictators and side with the opposition. But they will not seek to dispose Royals.
4. No surprises here Obama is still selling out to Muslims
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (03.05.11)
This is not news, Obama has been backing oppressors and Muslim leaders at the expense of their people and Israel all along. He only changed his tune in Egypt and Libya when he started looking foolish supporting leaders that were on their way out - and even then only more than a week after the start of the protests and riots.
5. Muslims will soon look for common ground, hating Israel
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (03.05.11)
Whether Israel likes it or not they will soon be caught in the middle of the ME changes, since they will look for common ground and that seems to be hating Israel. Pakistan may join the Arab alliance to counter India, Iran and US influence and that could quickly take the Arabs nuclear. Pakistan just brought online its 2nd reactor and started work on its 4th, while already doubling its nukes to over 130 in last few years.
6. How about telling us something we don't know?
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.05.11)
7. So maybe you began
Jarda ,   Czech republic   (03.05.11)
to understand the feeling of Palestinians more than sixty years ago.
8. Jarda
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (03.05.11)
I don't see your point at all - if there is one, other than just an automatic dumb slam at Israel.
9. #7 there were no Palestinians 60 years ago
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (03.05.11)
The Arabs who lived in what is now Israel only started calling themselves Palestinians in the '60s. Before that they were Ottomans for almost 700 years. And remember that Israel did not tell them to leave, it was their Arab brothers who told them to leave just like they kicked out the Jews in their countries.
10. Whatever Obama does it will be wrong
DT ,   TA Israel   (03.05.11)
He is seen by militant and non Militant Arabs alike as totally weak and incapable . He is a "Jimmy Carter "Mark 2
11. Well here's my tuppence worth
05.03.11   (03.05.11)
OBAMA HAS TO GO NOW... not in another two years. He has already made a helluva mess of the USA and now Israel is beginning to feel the lash of his fists. Away with this Obama befor the entire world becomes a roaring flame of fire.
12. Fuller Disclosure
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (03.05.11)
The article was written in a newspaper owned in part by the Saudi royal family and Rupert Murdoch. The article was written by John Yoo, the author of the "It's OK to Torture" memos for the Bush administration. There might be an agenda at work.
13. Extra! The Daily Ditherer
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (03.05.11)
Obama's hope for a changable news organ of his momentary choice. The "Ditherer" is the winner for a callow, shallow and scented with tallow left wing, Islamist friendly, US administration which has again searched for and found, several very flexible positions which it may or may not take, depending on the phase of the moon or the hour of the day. Conservatives have taken umbrage over the apparantly excessive cost of a new carpet in the Oval Office changing E Pluribus Unem to Wafflers be Us.
14. One step forward, two steps back
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.11)
" ... Obama's administration settling on Middle East strategy that favors keeping long-time Arab allies who are willing to make positive changes in power, even if it means full democratic demands of citizens may have to wait." I am certain that Mubarak and Ben Ali are pleased to learn that the Obama administration has done a complete 180 degree turn. Of course, the U.S. has lost its most dependable Arab ally in the process, but -- hey -- sh*t happens. I am torn between whether Obama is pursuing a private agenda or if he has no agenda at all. Frankly, either prospect is terrifying. The United States is a ship without a skipper. As to the remarkable ineptitude of the U.S. Department of State, I defer to the immortal words of the great Casey Stengel: "Can't anyone here play this game?"

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.11)
Over sixty years ago, the Jews who accepted partition wanted nothing more than to build a state side-by-side with the Arabs; we reached out in friendship and optimism that we could each learn from the other and that each of us would benefit from what the other had to offer. Unfortunately, the Arabs rebuffed us. They rejected the prospect of friendship and mutual benefit. They chose to go to war, screaming their intent to "push the Jews into the Sea." Well, it didn't quite work out that way, did it? So no, I do not understand the feelings of the Arabs more than sixty years ago (they were "Arabs" then, they had not yet co-opted the identity of Palestinians, which had always the term used exclusively to refer to the Jews in Palestine). What I do know is that their hatred has never stopped; their determination to achieve the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jewish people has never been replaced by reasonableness and common sense; they continue to be their own worst enemy and they have never -- not once in nearly seven decades -- abandoned their vicious terrorism. No, I do not understand. Frankly, I hope I never do understand a people that objectifies violence, hatred and terror. They are the ones that need to find a better way. But they need to find it on their own, not at the expense of the Jewish people who have never wanted anything but to live in peace. The ersatz "Palestinians" have made that impossible. They are responsible for their misfortune; not Israel. Israel is a sovereign state whose right to exist in its ancient homeland is irrefutable. All sovereign states have an inalienable and irrefutable right to defend itself against attack. The ersatz "Palestinians" have failed in their attempt to dislodge Israel. Over the sixty-two (plus) years of which you speak, Israel has learned that there is no making peace with them. Heaven knows we have tried. We are no longer interested in putting forth a futile effort. Sorry. The ersatz "Palestinians" are nothing more than a terrorist rabble bent on the destruction of the State of Israel. That will never happen.
17. #16 Sarah B How Do You Do That
Brazen   (03.05.11)
No one could have said it Louder and Clearer. Thanks Again

Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (03.05.11)
Obama honestly believes what his mentor Reverend Wright taught him: the Jews are the source of all the world's problems. That is why from his first day in office Obama sacrificed American interests to get the Jews.
19. thats the most intelligent idea he has had in 2 years
zionist forever   (03.05.11)
Makes an enemy of Israel from his first day in office. He is pushing for the so called peace process but he wont tell Abbas to start talking even when Bibi had a 10 month building freeze. Says nothing when the Iranian opposition rises up Is one of the first to call on Mubarak to go Is the last western leader to call on Gaddafi to stand down I hope this idiot now starts stop encouraging revolutions and starts pushing for regional stability. When people call Bush stupid I am sure they must be mistaking him for Obama.
