...Look, being the son of a famous actor, one of two brother actors dealing with name changes for acting reasons (or not, with Emilio), the fact that his mother (who didn't know her own father) was Jewish probably didn't come up too much. But in all the media frenzy of the past two weeks (and longer) Charlie has not seemed to ever make a factually incorrect statement. He's eccentric but he's not a liar. He's being villified for not being "the same" as the average person. But the fact is that some people have a physical or phsycological predisposition to not become addicted. He may go back to drugs and alchohol, because of the pleasure, but he simply doesn't have a dependancy. It's been proven that many Ashkenazim have a gene that prevents them from developing a physical dependancy to alchohol (I personally cannot become dependant on alchohol, but that's because it makes me ill). If he says his mother's Jewish we have no reason to doubt him. His father and brother are still alive and can confirm or deny this. He wouldn't lie about something that could be disproven. And the same for his Jewish ex-wife. He recognizes that the two are Jewish and views his own two son's from that union as Jews. But it's no surprize that he didn't think of it until just recently - his whole life he's been so far removed from the subject. And now he's just covering his own embarressment that it didn't occur to him initially when the anti-semitic claims were attributed to him. I'd be embarrassed too, for getting so caught up to not realize my own family was Jewish and that I knew it.
