1. Illegal house removed so parents take kids out of school?
Rebecca ,   Modi'in   (03.06.11)
Illegal house removed so parents take kids out of school? They are punishing their children because a mate built his house illegally? Why punish the kids? No Jew would do this.
2. I guess home schooling is out of the quation

3. does anybody understand arab logic?
zionist forever   (03.06.11)
The arabs build shoddy housing without permits. The houses are pulled down because they were built without permits as the law demands. The parents pull their children out of school in protest. What exactly does education have to do with illegal building?
4. What a mentality
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.06.11)
They build ILLEGAL HOMES, and then punish their own kids when the homes are demolished because they were illegal in the first place They have turned their own children into whipping boys & girls for the crimes of their parents Stupid is as stupid does
5. #1, 3, 4 - you are missing the point....
Riki ,   Tel Aviv   (03.06.11)
Did you also read the portion of the article that cited deteriorated school facilities with 42 students in a class? I don't know anything about the schools in Lod, generally or as they pertain more specifically to Arab students. But it seems to me that such a protest is fairly routine around the globe. If the conditions are disparate with schools in Jewish areas, then the protest makes sense. There is little value in sitting around criticizing "arab mentality." Especially since our country has at least 18% of its citizenry from that sector. Like it our not - we each are stuck with the other's mentality. That is how the state was designed to operate. It makes more sense to try and address problems as best we can. As to the demolitions, if they were illegal, then that will stand. But I think their point is that Jewish developers have a much easier time getting building permits than Arab ones. Again, whether that is true, I don't know. But I have heard that complaint for a number of years.
6. Why?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.06.11)
Where is the sense in making a supposedly "political" statement (it isn't) by depriving children of an education? This is just another form of using children as human shields. It serves no one in good stead, least of all the children.
7. Why demolish illegally built homes
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (03.06.11)
when you could give it to a Jewish settler? If you really want to stop illegal building and or truly punish those responible in the arab community use some creativity and balance the demographics at the same time!
8. IN BRITAN WE CALL IT...
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (03.06.11)
...cutting off your nose to spite your face. As usual, the Arabs are using their own children as political pawns with no regard for their welfare. When they get violent,I dare say they'll use their kids as human shields, too. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
9. Come on people!

The point is that the Abu Eid family had been promised a 6-month stay of demolition so that an alternative housing arrangement could be found for them the day before the police and Israel Lands Administration people came to demolish their houses. They came when the kids were at school and the men at work and demolished the houses with furniture still in them on the 13th of December. That was the torrential day that was the nearest thing to a hurricane we had this winter. There's a trail of broken promises after that too. This is seven brothers, their wives and kids - more than 70 people in all - without a roof over their heads and nowhere to go. People from families that came to Lod after being expelled from their villages in '48.
10. To: Joe at No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.06.11)
Joe, they are demolished for a reason, that reason being they are rickety structures that don't even sink foundations. Building permits are required in Israel for a reason; the same reason that they are required in the United States -- to make sure that they meet the specifications for a dwelling. There is nothing unreasonable about that. Try building something without the appropriate permits in the United States, and watch how fast such a building is demolished.
11. #5: "we each are stuck with the other's mentality"???
bernard ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (03.06.11)
Apparently this is onluy a jewiish problem. I have never read of arab muslims having any concern for jews or for consideration of jews In Israel or elsewhere. Perhaps the Jews should think ess about the arabs and more about their own survival. The arabs have millions of compatriots and scores of countries that are their champions the jews will find, as before, that they have no one..The jews were chased out of arab countries and I have never heard of an arab or muslim concerned about it. Its called masochism.
12. #5 Houses or Schools the kids should not suffer
rebecca ,   Modiin   (03.06.11)
Lots of schools in Israel have 42 kids in a class. People who build illegal houses do not pay taxes for their schools. But it seems they'll put their kids in the front line, instead of being grateful that they have schools..
13. When they're mad at food prices...
William ,   Israel   (03.07.11)
do they also go home and beat their kids? Why should the kids suffer because the parents want to make a statement?
14. #7 JOE - More reasons:
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.07.11)
Since the homes were built illegally, They have to resort to stealing municipal supplies & utilities, such as gas, water, sanitation (garbage pickup & street cleaning) They must also call on the municipality to send an ambulance when someone requires hospitalization ALL OF WHICH ARE "THEFTS”
