31. $20 billion from the US ?
DT ,   TA Israel   (03.08.11)
That should make us popular especially when the US is bankrupt
32. Somehow.........
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (03.08.11)
......I can't see Hussein ObUma writing out the cheque........... Didn't Barak try a similar stunt with Bill Clinton several years ago?
33. Is it April Fools already!?!?!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (03.08.11)
We belittle America and hurl the most offensive remarks at its President. We arrogantly dismiss America's bona fide advice and wise counsel. We proclaim from the rooftops that we will not be dictated to by America. And now we come cap in hand to beg America for an exorbitant amount of money!?! Talk about 7utzpah!!!
34. US can't pay $20 billion for a "can"
observer ,   Egypt   (03.08.11)
When was the US's aid to Israel stopped? has this non-stop aid to Israel alleviated Mideast unrest in the last 63 years?
35. Save money & get better hardware by doing it yourself
Eitan ,   Chicago   (03.08.11)
The Trophy (me"iyl ruax) APS is a great example of what happens when Israel forgoes US defense contractors' involvement. US "aid" to Israel mostly amounts to a direct subsidy lining pockets at Boeing and Raytheon. The US has the raw materials and economies of scale for warplanes and shipbuilding, and moonshot tech like free-electron lasers, but Israel's avionics and protection systems always seem to be superior.
36. I thought Barak is "Israel" Defense Minister !
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.08.11)
Now I can find out that he is "Israel" begging Minister !! "Israel" cannot exist without US aid !
37. Are we being asked to purchase Israel, Raymond?
Cameron ,   USA   (03.08.11)
For that kind of sum, the question does arise. And yes, you could not put a bigger smile on Obama's face than with this kind of amazing sum. Think about the terms & forms of payback he will demand in return for that kind of backing.
38. Awful PM but best defense negotiator ever
zionist forever   (03.08.11)
When Bush was president he managed to talk the US into funding the Arrow 3 development when the US arms lobbyists were saying stop supporting Arrow get Israel buying American. Originally Israel was having second thoughts about buying the F35 because of the price and the Pentagon were against allowing Israel to instal any of its systems. It looked like a lost cause until Barak came along. He negotiated a deal where Israel would be allowed to install some of its own systems, something no other country has been granted including the countries who spent billions on development cost of the F35. The planes bomb bays will be modified to accept Israeli designed missiles. Israel would be the first foreign customer to get the F35 everybody else will have to wait their turn including the countries who invested billions. Best of all the wings for around a third of the global F35 sales will be made in Israel a contract worth around $2-3 billion. He managed to talk the US into paying for two Iron Dome batteries. If there is any truth to this story so far its only the Wall Street Journal thats said he is looking for another $20 billion which personally I find hard to believe. If it is true Barak knows he won't get anything like $20 billion thats his starting price from which he will come down but he will probably end up with something. He was one of the worst PMs we ever had and he has been at best an average defense minister but as a negotiator there is nobody better.
39. Normally...
Frank ,   NJ USA   (03.08.11)
Dear Israelis, normally, I wouldn't mind sending aid to help you out. You've been a good friend and ally for years. But the current situation in the US is not good. I'm afraid if this money is given it may even lead to future US-Israel tensions (from the typical drum beaters). I would advise not to request this money, but figure out another way to make sure your defense is strong. Maybe a lend-lease or something similar. I'd hate to see Israel placed in the US cross hairs of financial anger. But at the same time, I think most of us do understand your current situation in the ME (and it's not good).
40. US aid wouldn't help void treaty, void deal
observer ,   Egypt   (03.08.11)
Construction of illegal settlements is contrary to the preamble of the Treaty, which calls for "just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East in accordance with Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338." What about halted Syrian & Palestinian peace talk with Israel? The natural gas deal is based on bribing Gamal Mubarak, former head of the Policy Commitee of the NDP (5% commission) and his brother Alaa (2.5%). Contracts based on bribes and commissions are void.
41. Hey Baraky, spare me some change. Where's the German money?
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.08.11)
42. A Typically Misunderstood Program
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (03.08.11)
This has been one of the best wedge issues used by the antisemitic, against Israel. They hope to stir anger with the American public, especially now during economic hard times. Put simply, the argument goes, the USA is giving away free money to Israel, and why should the USA do that? But nothing could be further from the truth. Both countries benefit in many ways from this relationship. For instance as recently as 2010 official reports show that and I quote: "74 percent of FMF (Financial Military Assistance) was spent in the United States to generate profits and jobs. More than 1,000 companies in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have signed contracts worth billions of dollars through this program. " In addition the joint work between the two countries has enormous benefits for our defensive capabilities. Specifically, the Arrow missile system, as just one example of the benefits. Of course Israel has improved many weapons from the USA. With the current unrest in the M.E., causing gas prices to spiral worldwide, it only makes sense to increase the defensive capability of the only stable democracy in the region. A strong Israel is the best way for stability, period. There is no logical counter argument, only sarcastic remarks, and garden variety antisemitism.
43. End US "aid" and expand Israel's economy
Menachem ,   Israel   (03.08.11)
US "aid" constitutes roughly 1% of Israel's expanding GDP and is already today having a very limited impact on the Israeli economy. The "aid" has also promoted the US military industry at the expense of the Israeli military industry. Israel should send the money back to Washington which needs it more and should instead promote further economic and technological expansion in Israel.
44. Israel is 63 years old... it's time to wean yourselves
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NY   (03.08.11)
from the welfare teat.
45. Israel is the only true democracy
miriam ,   los angeles, ca   (03.08.11)
in the region. And the US needs Israel to be strong.
46. political ploy
eddie ,   london UK   (03.08.11)
actually, for Israel to accept US and world pressure for a 2 state solution, it will need much more in order to make its borders and dwellings defensible the palestinian will need much more than this figure, to set up their state; on top of that, there will be hundreds of billions of resettle millions of offspring of refugees. So, before the world starts talking about Palestine, they have to be prepared to foot the bill as well.
47. NO
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (03.08.11)
Anything the unelectable Barak suggests is bad, and this is one of his worst ideas. The United States should use their money to balance their budget, help their own citizens, or help people in need like in Haiti. The only question is why Barak would suggest such a stupid idea that would make Israel lose even more independence. It is scary to think that maybe Barak is so corrupt that he gets kickbacks so has a personal financial interest in this money. And American contributors: next time Barak visits the USA: keep him and give us Pollard instead.
48. NO!!! Absolutely NOt!!! Cut the dependence on the US now
Marcella   (03.08.11)
Dependence on the US means that they own you!!!! If they own you they feel entitled to tell you what to do with your land, with your lives, with your politics, with everything. Decline any further aid from the US. They're broke. Every dollar that goes to Israel will be resented by Americans who have lost their jobs and their homes. Israel needs to develop its own military industry. It has to have the choice buy weapons from whoever it wants, not just what the US allows you to have. And then there is the real chance that they'll stop selling you spare parts if you dare to engage in a war with the Arabs. Or do something they don't approve of. The only ones to benefit from US aid to Israel are in the struggling US military industry.
49. So where is that wonderful economy?
Edithann ,   USA   (03.08.11)
I thought Israel was the only ones doing so well? Your economy is booming and you don't even need the cheap labor you've imported from other countries... So what's up, you're armed to the teeth ...I don't think we have to worry about you at all..you're just whining again...It must be seasonal with you all, you whine every season... TATA
50. #3 Is there not limit to your IGNORANCE
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.08.11)
Every buck that Israel gets MUST by Law, be spent in the U.S.A. or on American products Thus helping to create jobs for the vast amount of American's that are presenlty Unemployed So far, most of the Arab Government's that the USA had thought were its allies, have disintegrated because of their own internal revolutions Surely, even the likes of you have noticed that America’s Arab friends are now charging more than $105. Per barrel of oil, that costs them a sum total of $4 or $5 to extract from he ground Obama has Kowtowed and kissed the tuchas or ring of virtually every Arab leader he came into contact with, which brought him nothing in return, they're still laughing at just how inept the USA is handling world affairs, Muslim's in particular Obama will be responsible if the Arab nations become Islamist, they know he can’t be trusted, after all he stabbed Mubarak, an American Ally in the back, as of today, he has stilled failed to take an effective stand on Libya "He's thinking about it"
51. Why Barak? So you can attack more Jews?
bjl ,   usa   (03.08.11)
No WAY!
52. palestinian statehood
patrick r. peters ,   battle creek mi.USA   (03.08.11)
Attn. Israel, Do you have permission to get rid of land to another people who are not of the twelve tribes of Israel? I think not. The God of Israel said: Numbers 34:6 As for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea (the mediteranean)for a border: this shall be your western border. As the LORD God said to Joshuain Deuteronomy 3:22 You must not fear your enemies ,for the Lord God Himself fights for you. another good reason not to give up Gaza is it is on the sea adjacent to Israels natural gas discoveries and as a sovereign country Gaza may try to claim the gas off shore is theirs . So! tell your leaders relinquish land ever, under any circumstance. Remember One with God is a majority . Shalom IHN pat
53. UNDERSTAND LIFE
cristian ,   bs arg   (03.08.11)
IT IS TO KNOW THE THREE GREATEST RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD JUDAISM,CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS TO FIND THE COINCIDENCES AND TO LEAVE BEHIND FOREVER THE DIFFERENCES BECAUSE THE MINDS OF HUMANITY ARE LIVING UNDER THEIR IDEAS.THEY ALL READ THE SAME SCRIPTURES BUT THE EVIL SEPARATES THEM AS ENEMIES
54. American peaple have to revolt against AIPAC to free America
(03.08.11)
as long as AIPAC occupying the congress the Zionists' blackmailing will never end !!!
55. to edithann and 25
Barney ,   USA   (03.08.11)
Israel has a great economy. unfortunately a lot must be commited to defense against terrorism but in spite of that it prospers. The US economy suffers due to greed of Wall Street AND fighting islamic terrorism everywhere in the world. sudan, somalia, afghanistan, pakistan, iran, iraq, yemen, gaza, syria, lebanon. The problems of the world are not caused by Israel. Radical Islam is the problem. england, spain, france, bali, just close your eyes and point to a map
56. #12 Mark - Self-appointed,expert
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.08.11)
aka/Tuchas talking Everyone, and I mean everyone has been waiting with baited breath for your words of wisdom, which will be flushed right after they're been uttered Let me make it perfectly clear, even for the likes of you ALL THE MONEY, MUST BY LAW, BE SPENT IN THE USA, CREATING AMERICAN JOBS, SPENT ON AMERICAN PRODUCTS One more detail, Israel wouldn't need Military Assistance if her lousy neighbors hadn't been attacking her since the day she was established It will have absolutely no effect on what the elderly, sick or any other group do or don't get, their status has already been pre-determined You should concern yourself with the $105 BILLIONS of dollars that was hidden in Obmacare for the sole purpose of perpetuating a plan the vast majority of American's don't want It's a wonder that no party consulted you for your input, you're a store of non-knowledge is so vast
57. #49 Edithann
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.08.11)
The world's economy is in the toilet; blame your Arab masters for increasing the price of oil to such a height that it's now $105 a barrel, when it only costs them $4 of $5 to extract it from the ground Price of food in the grocery has escalated, it cost more to transport and grow, gas at the pump, look at what you're paying, unless you ride a bike, though in your case that would be a broom One major factor, any items purchased must be American Made, Creating jobs for some of the vast army of American Unemployed You're sign off really shouldn't be TATA - It should be "Tetched in the Head"
58. 344 seamongrel
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.08.11)
It isn't welfare, it's self defense, from enemies that have been attacking for those very same 63 years The USA had just one attack at Pearl Harbor, it went bonkers, WTC Trade Center, again the USA went ballistic Get on your leaky ship and pull the cork, then place it in your stupid mouth
59. #25 Genie, back into your bottle !!
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.08.11)
The USA has in almost 14 Trillion Dollars in debt, 20 Billion is a mere flyspeck If you wish to reduce the deficit, get off the welfare line and go to work The World Laughs at you, your President runs around kissing the rings and bowing to those that increased the price of oil to $105 (as of today), for a product that cost $4-5 per barrel to bring out of the ground Gas at the pump, have you looked at the price Food in the grocery, have you at least had the intelligence to check the prices and the fact that package sizes are being reduced & that you're paying the same money for less product In many instances the merchant has increased the price to enhance his profit Unemployment benefits have been increased to the longest period of time in U.S. History, even you bums shouldn't need more than 99 weeks to get a job One more thing, I will wager that you're among the first in trying to conceal your income from the IRS Be truthful, when was the last time you paid all the Taxes that you owed the Government ?
60. 30 billion not 20 billion after all its Gaddafi money
tea man ,   marjayoun   (03.08.11)
