1. Not eating meat is healthy so no harm to Jews
ben ,   herzliya il   (03.09.11)
Headline is as stupid as saying cigarette bans harm smokers.
2. NO SUCH THING AS "DEFACTO ANTI-SEMITISM"
ben yaacov ,   herzliya il   (03.09.11)
Antisemitism is premised on a malice! There is no malice towards Jews in this law. Just because as a by-product something adversely affects Jews doesn't make it antisemitic. If a store wants to have a midnite madness sale on a Friday night. Religious Jews would be be precluded from attending but that doesn't make the store or the sale "defacto anti-semitism"!
3. easy solution: accept pre-slaughter stunning
like the ,   muslims do   (03.09.11)
4. Netherlands ritual slaughter
Maurice Margulies ,   Rockville, MD 20852   (03.09.11)
Netherlands is not the only country. See: http://www.meattradenewsdaily.co.uk/news/030810/sweden__leading_the_way_in_ritual_slaughter_.aspx
5. What a load of tripe (pun intended)!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (03.09.11)
I don't know what dog owners' view of their pets has to do with anything, other than to take a gratuitous dig at the Dutch. I'm surprised there was no reference to Anne Frank in this piece. I also fail to see why the Green faction should mandate its members be vegetarian. Is vegetarianism a credo of the Left!?! I expect better from a fellow Ph.D. holder. Anyway. I don't get it. We keep complaining about how Europe appeases Muslims and bends over backward (and not necessarily backward) to accommodate their most hostile and barbaric views and customs. When the burqa is outlawed, we rejoice and hope it to portend just the beginning of Europe reasserting itself as it did in Ottoman days. But if it affects us, it's no good. I personally don't care how my chicken or cow was dispatched, so long as it was not unduly tormenting. I don't like the idea of animals suffering. If I have the choice of living to see somebody slit my throat or having it done unaware in my sleep, I'll choose the latter. I think we should afford animals the same... - regardless of what some "holy" scrolls say.
6. the good thing: it may force Jews to come to Israel
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.09.11)
the really BAD thing: those Jews will be of religeous "persuasion" and as such will further tip the scales towards us becoming an Ayatollah state!-( There is no such animal as religeous tolerance of the "other", not when they are in sufficient numbers!!)
7. Dutch banning ritual slaughter
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (03.09.11)
This article does not mention that New Zealand banned ritual slaughter and then Christ Church was wiped out by an earthquake I wouldn't be surprised if a huge disaster hits Holland
8. Stupid religions, stupid believes.
Willy ,   France   (03.09.11)
In Europe we are fed up with these religions and their stupid, childish believes. I understand people believed in the bible, coran thousands years ago. But, we are in the 21e century !!!! Europeans are more and more anti-religions. Religions have not their place in the public sphere, it's 100% a private matter. Exist 1000's faiths, if i had to chose i would take greek mythology. Greek mythology is far less stupid than those egocentric monotheisms.
9. A very simple solution...
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (03.09.11)
Jews of the Netherlands, move home to Israel. Leave the hypocritical Dutch regime to their beloved Muslims, who will soon become the lords and masters there. That way you can have all the best kosher food in the world and not worry about the myriad stresses left behind in Holland. If Italy one day ever should sink to the low situation of present-day Holland, I would get out of here, too.
10. Mr. Geert Wilders, NO SUCH THING as '' judeo-christian civil
rachel ,   galut   (03.09.11)
civilization''. That sick hate monger is just using gullible amongst Jews as front for his sickness. Judaism and Christianity are diametrically opposed,
11. Horrific suffering from one of the largest suppliers
Janis ,   Silkeborg, Denmark   (03.09.11)
of kosher meat in the US. The images from the footage will stay with you forever. AgriProcessors has been closed down, due to the horrific way the cows were handled as well as due to shady business dealing. Are we really so far removed from the source of our food? Kosher or not, cows do suffer in moss industrial size stalls and slaughterhouses.
12. Don't care whom this bill hurts
(03.09.11)
as long as it prevents torture of animals!
13. 7 NZ reversed its ban on Jewish ritual slaughter
religious nutcase   (03.09.11)
of chickens after pressure from Jewish religious groups. The earthquake was punishment from Jesus for letting non-believers dictate NZ's animal welfare rules.
14. Time to Move
yaakov ,   Israel   (03.09.11)
Come home to Israel! Leave Eurabia to the Muslims and Xtians. Hashem is guiding you to the REAL land of free.
15. Are you kidding?!
Naomi   (03.09.11)
If you really believe that load of nonsense, then you really are crackers! Not to mention incredibly tacky and insensitive! At least 166 innocent people have lost their lives, including a 5mth old baby and six Israeli citizens! Shame on you!!! By the way, earthquakes are a force of nature, nothing to do with your vengeful God. Oh, and another thing, New Zealand is a secular nation where there is separation of church and state, which is how it should be in a democratic nation. Animals are beautiful creatures that deserve to be treated with compassion, not cruelty. Your kind of fundamentalist religious thinking is exactly what we don't need in New Zealand, and it reaffirms my belief that we should insist all animals are stunned before being killed. Yes, it's inconsistent to insist on this condition while chickens continue to live in tiny cramped cages etc. etc. , but with animal welfare law you have to start somewhere and hope to make more progress in the future. By the way, New Zealand was the first country on the planet to give women the vote, so I think we know a little something about democracy.
16. Ritual slaughter is cruel!
(03.09.11)
You are an evil woman for saying something so vile when at least 166 innocent people lost their lives, including a 5-month old baby and three loyal Israeli citizens!! That's the equivalent of me making sick twisted comments about the Holocaust and claiming that the Jews "deserved it"! Are you really such a fundamentalist nutcase that you actually believe that shit?! Earthquakes are natural forces, and New Zealand happens to be located along two tectonic plates, nothing to do with God! Stupid woman, we get 14,000 earthquakes every year but you probably didn't know that. By the way, it's Christchurch (one word), not Christ Church. Your comments just reinforce my view that kosher slaughter is an embarassing anachronism in a modern world that has compassion for animals.
17. #1 no meat
Adam   (03.09.11)
Would you like me to tell you what you can and can't do or should I let you decide. You don't eat meat—I'm happy you enjoy it. I actually eat very little meat, but it is not for anyone to tell me if I can or can't eat kosher meat. Kosher slaughter is not barbaric.
18. Leah , 7 . And what disaster fell on Norway
jol ,   BX   (03.09.11)
Or switserland . Your "superstition" was for people living in the dark middle ages , not for SANE 21st century ones .
19. Reply to #8
Jack Hoff ,   NY NY   (03.09.11)
Willy, glad to know that you went to Universtiy to become an ignoramus. If others have views that differ from yours, it doesn't make them crazy, stupid, or incorrect. However, your commentary is arrogant, assuming, and quite "ego centric". Incidentally, dont make your views known to your Muslim friends, you could wind up a head shorter!
20. Harming Jews in Hollandistan
Phillip ,   Amirim   (03.09.11)
The Jews in Holland have the option of becoming vegetarians, a Jewish ethic. Or coming Home to Israel. Animal slaughter is an abomination. What is written in the Bible, Torah, Koran or even gevalt on FaceBook, really does not interest me or both my late grand-mothers.
21. @17 I am not telling anyone what to do, there is no harm tho
ben yaacov ,   herzliya il   (03.09.11)
I am not telling anyone what to do or not do. I am simply pointing out the obvious. There are no Jews being harmed as the writer headlined.
22. Why is the author blaming muslims for this?
IRAN#1   (03.10.11)
The barabric aspects of jewish kosher law has disgusted the Dutch, why are you blaming muslims? You're rituals have been "outed" and like your "occupation" when people see the facts they find it disgusting. BTW, the article says the muslims accept he meat halal even if the animal is stunned why are the jews so freaking rigidn that they can not accpet that fact? Wo are the real FANATICS now!
23. With comments (lies) like these, you will never change the w
Tøvpeis ,   Troms, Norway   (03.10.11)
With comments (lies) like these, you will never change the world opinion! "Norway, a country with a lengthy anti-Semitic tradition, adopted such a law in 1929 even before Nazi Germany. It remains in effect until today. However, in contrast, Norwegians continue to kill whales in a cruel manner in which the animal may suffer for many minutes."
24. Jews should be vegetarians
Sidney ,   USA   (03.10.11)
This would really fulfill being "a light unto the nations". Killing animals and eating flesh is immoral no matter what the Torah says.
25. Cows, whales, sardines next ? Great lawmakers.
jo   (03.10.11)
Excellent dutch bill. Cows welfare ride high above the few miserable jews left in this god forsaken country. Too bad they did not include the horrific slaughter of whales, perpetrated by norwegians who suffer greatly from their barbaric Wiking past.
26. NOT SO MUCH ABOUT BEING DUTCH AS BEING 'GREEN'
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (03.11.11)
This is something that applies as much to Britain and the rest of N.W. Europe as to the Netherlands.By constant appeasement, the governments of these countries have ended up in thrall to 'green' and 'environmental' movements that spout popularist pseudo-scientific theories and follow hidden agendas. Their real motives are far from clear, but it is clear that they are ruining the economies and societies that they touch, all for no discernible gain.To me,they seem to be an even greater danger than al Qaida because they've embedded themselves into society and have been allowed to become untouchable and above criticism. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
27. Anyone will be "stressed"...
Persian CAT   (03.14.11)
standing next to an Imam or a rabbi. These guys are always bad news!
28. is there anyplace on this earth where we as jews would be
(03.14.11)
welcomed?
29. dutch haven't learned from their history
rafiq ,   arnhem, holland   (04.09.11)
The German court held that under Article 2.1 of the German Basic Law, religious slaughterers have a distinct fundamental right to practice a religiously-recognized vocation. It also explained that merely permitting importation of ritually slaughtered meat is inadequate to protect the religious rights of individuals under Articles 4.1 and 4.2 of the German Basic Law (Constitution) . germany knows their history and learned from it. dutch don't know their own history and if they haven't learned from it.
