1. UN accuses Israel
Yoel ,   Ossining,NY   (03.10.11)
The UN and the engineer's wife may suspect what they want, but it makes no sence. Why would Israel kidnapp him when he's planning to leave Gaza for Ukraine? He may be the heart of the project, but he's leaving anyway.
2. SAFETY IN UKRAINE?? NEAR CHERNOBYL??
stude ham   (03.10.11)
ukraine as an immigration destination?? anyone kidding us?? UN stooges believing this story?? so if the UN is so concerned about kidnappings what is it doing about shalit? we're looking at fables from world class liars.
3. this story doesn't make sense
meir ,   TA   (03.10.11)
The alleged victim was in Ukraine applying for citizenship (shared with his wife and children). That means he was planning to leave the Middle East anyway, so why would Israel get involved? The UN agency has no evidence but accuses Israel -- as usual. This is an example of AP's "factual" reporting.
4. That makes no sense
Howie ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.10.11)
His wife says she is sure Israel kidnapped him in order to sabotage the power plant in Gaza because he was the brains behind the plant enabling it to function. Yet, he wanted to leave Gaza and take his family with him to live in Ukraine. So, he was trying to sabotage the power plant in Gaza by leaving Gaza for good. And she claims Israel is at fault? He is the traitor to Gaza and Hamas. But since he's Jordanian, why isn't Jordan looking into this? And he's not a Hamas sympathizer, his wife says, just a Hamas supporter his fellow engineers and neighbours say. What a joke! Just another Arab Muslim trying to hurt their own people and blame Israel in the process.
5. Absurd!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.10.11)
If Israel wanted to disable a power station in Gaza, it would scarcely require a Mossad operation and kidnapping. The best way, frankly, to disable a power station in Gaza would be for Israel to simply stop supplying Gaza with what it needs to operate a power station. The far more likely scenario is that once this engineer's desire to move to Ukraine became known to his Hamas masters, they kidnapped him. I do marvel at the fact that with everything collapsing in the Arab world and with all the other truly crisis situations throughout the world, the United Nations seem to always have time to entertain an anti-Israel fabrication, no matter how ridiculous and spurious the accusation. The United Nations is a serpent consuming its tail.
6. Israel must defend itself
Sami ,   New York, USA   (03.10.11)
Israel must defend itself
7. The Engineer
dan Guralnek ,   Brisbane Australia   (03.10.11)
"the engineer" Sound like a hollywood terrorist alias?
8. As his wife said he was going to defect to the Ukraine
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (03.10.11)
As his wife said he was going to defect to the Ukraine why would Israel have had to do anything to affect the Gaza plant? If we did nothing he would have left Gaza anyway.
9. UN what about Shalit?
Jewish Cholo ,   Florida   (03.10.11)
10. Left family,
Ariel ,   Europe   (03.10.11)
escaped to his girlfriend in Kiev... Europe spoils these Arabs, really.
11. A QUESTION
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (03.10.11)
Is that power station still operating? If it is and Abu Sisi really is indispensable for its operation,we know where he is and can make a good guess who really abducted him. There seems to be a lot of anti-Israel insinuation and innuendo here. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
12. israel can cut the power or bomb the power station
Potash Katiftof ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.10.11)
they wouldn't kidnap this guy just because he knows how to work a power station, most of gaza's power comes from israel anyway, they could just shut it down. and if he was imigrating to the ukraine, why would they kidnap him if he is leaving already. sounds like he left his wife and she is just blaming israel
13. abduction
spookey ,   birmingham uk   (03.10.11)
what a load of rubbish i think mossad have bigger fish to fry
14. #11 An answer
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.10.11)
lol.
15. PALLYWOOD???
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (03.10.11)
So we have in this article one blurry picture of a guy, and the tearjerker picture, of his little girls holding his picture. Designed to elicit sympathy for him and of course vilify Israel as evil, how predictable. It's funny when Hamas shot the pregnant Jewish mother of 6 kids, just a few months ago (in the3b drive-by shooting that murdered four), I didn't see one picture of her kids, did anyone else? As already has been pointed out, two points: 1) Why kidnap him? when you can cut off the supplies? 2) If he was the brains of the Gaza electric plant and leaving Gaza anyway (since he was applying for citizenship to move), what would be the point? Then we have the fact, that there are no facts, to indicate Israel did this, certainly no motivation. So why is the UN even involved? Why does his wife's story make little sense? Why do neighbors say he was a higher up with Hamas (because that's how you get those top jobs), Yet his wife said he wasn't with Hamas? Again his wife's theory is Israel kidnapped him to sabotage the electric plant in Gaza, but why would Israel do that, if he's moving anyway? And wouldn't that give Hamas the motive, not Israel? The whole story is goofy.
16. Yes it was mossad!
Chatich   (03.10.11)
It is not widely reported in the media but eyewitnesses reported seeing a group of hebrew speaking sharks in the area just before the pal's disappearance. And they had friggin lasers on their heads!
17. Sarah B please don't insult sepents
John Phee ,   Sydney, AUSTRALIA   (03.10.11)
Sarah, I lamentably must ask you not to use the "concept of the snake swallowing its tails" in connection with the UN. The snake swallowing its tail image has been used as a symbol for many good things such as "wisdom" "knowledge" & "eternity" not of which I sure that you will agree apply to the UN
18. trade him for Shalit.
(03.10.11)
19. I agree with Jewish Cholo, what about Shalit??? Hello????UN?
Jewish Chola ,   Miami USA   (03.10.11)
20. Well, if this is true...
Lobo ,   USA   (03.10.11)
Then Israel should hold him in exactly the same conditions that Gilad Shalit is being held. Then exchange him for Gilad.
21. right on un knows everything. where is proff
ralph   (03.10.11)
22. what is purpose of story? prove un is crazy immoral lieing
ralph   (03.10.11)
agency. we already know that. nothing new here.
23. maybe he wanted out, new life, new wife, new kids
ralph   (03.10.11)
24. Love the planned photo AP
William ,   Israel   (03.10.11)
Yes, let's create a photo that evokes emotions that you cannot create with the baseless conspiracy theory you're purporting here. Here's a question - in the past 10 years with so many victims of Arab terror, why has not one photo of a Jewish child, with sad eyes, holding a photo of their loved one ever been published? Because it doesn't make for good "journalism".
25. Maybe he's workiing for Israel
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (03.10.11)
Maybe this trip to Ukraine was just a cover for a side trip to Israel to tell Israeli intelligence about what is going on in Gaza!
26. To: John at No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.10.11)
"Wisdom, knowledge and eternity?" Which apply to the United Nations? How about "none of the above?" I'm sorry .... snakes are not among my favorite things. Don't like great whites, crocodiles or spiders, either. I probably wouldn't make a very good Aussie, although I do like cockatoos, koala bears and Australian wines very much (not necessarily in that order)!
27. If It's True . . .
emanon ,   USA   (03.10.11)
. . . which I doubt, maybe Israel should trade him for Gilad Shalit. Personally, I think the guy left his wife.
28. Did anyone bother to check the Gaza power plant?
William ,   Israel   (03.10.11)
If he is so indispensable, he was probably retrieved by Hamas and convinced to return to work. Perhaps he's chained to his position back in Gaza. Did anyone bother to check the gallows of the power plant?
29. To: Emanon at No. 27
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.10.11)
Without her, he has no claim to Ukrainian citizenship, which is what he evidently applied for. I personally feel that Hamas kidnapped him, to keep him from leaving Gaza for good. What is certain is that Israel is in no way responsible. Israel can turn the lights off in Gaza by flicking a switch (whom do you suppose supplies Gaza to begin with?). No need to kidnap anyone.
30. #29 Certain?
Shmuel ,   Be   (03.11.11)
Hmmmm...his Israeli lawyer has confirmed this and Israeli security has now imposed a gagging order on reporting.........not so certain is it bird brain.
