1. Art Theft
PaulHT ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.12.11)
What a Shame! Give it back! This particular Balzac is a gem. It is one of the earliest casts done, the quality of surface-superb. It clearly shows Rodin' s working techniques and even imprints of his fingers. As a Jerusalem resident, member of The Royal Society of British Sculptors, and founder of Jerusalem's only independent sculpture school; I will, as will my students be lamenting it's loss. Let us hope that the other treasures from the Billy Rose garden are safe, especially the Germaine Richier's. I presume Turrell's "Space that sees" is secure. If these hooligans wish to return it, I will be more than happy to accept!
2. Museum at fault...
Emily ,   Jerusalem   (03.12.11)
During the remodeling process I was able to take many photographs of many different sculptures as they literally lay about the construction site without guards. If I as an amateur photographer and visiter was able to take these photographs without any security personal interupting me or asking me what I was doing in the back area and inside a construction site without a hard hat and without any identification well then I am left to wonder what someone with a truck and a construction hat could do. Clearly I don't need to wonder anymore...they could steal works of art and they did! A true pity that the museum wasn't more attentive and careful with its art works
3. not surprising

it seems as if israeli apathy has taken sway once more as valuables just "get lost". what emily describes in her talkback is an excellent example of what sort of apathy and indifference is rampant in this country. it's not all bad, but this seems to be a good example of what the country looks like generally, although wonderful, of course. whatever. one piece of junk less to worry about, hmm?
4. museum had duty to secure its collection!!!
dante ,   uk   (03.14.11)
the theft is inexcusable. of course, the perps should be shot if apprehended. but, there can be no excuse for the obvious failure of museum security and administration.
