1. Is there an organization that is collecting donations?
noa ,   israel   (03.15.11)
An organization from Israel that is sending these donations to Japan? We can all SMS Redcross or others, but would prefer to send from Israel.
2. the massacre was conducted by
thai ,   thailand   (03.15.11)
the massacre was conducted by thai worker, palestinians have nothing to do with it.
3. my heart goes out to everyone in Japan. keep your spirits up
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.15.11)
Even in one of the biggest earthquakes ever the Japanese behave quite differently...... I am sure that Japan will survive Inshallah very soon.

Contact ZAKA. They are planning to send a team to Japan when the situation stabilizes, but who knows when that will be with the reactors now exploding. They can update you about their current status.

Please, if someone knows of an institution or organization for humanitarian relief, tell me. Japan has always helped other countries. It is time to extend a hand to a friend in need.

The International Red Cross, but I wouldn't donate to them. They have affiliated with the Red Crescent organization, but they refuse to affiliate with Magen David Adom. Moreover, the Red Cross never helps Jews or Israel. Their overhead is pretty high, so only about fifteen cents of ever dollar donated actually goes to aid. Be careful -- there are likely no shortage of phony website already set up that are just out there to steal money, as what happened following the Haiti quake. Most of those seem to be based in Nigeria, so don't make any donations to a Nigerian-based organization. I would suggest waiting to see what type of aid Israel will be sending, and donate through that.

Salma likes to join the queue and issue forth with bleating hand-wringing expressions of sympathy and pity, but she fools no one. She's a sociopath, and sociopaths have no consciences. She may write the words and pretend to feel the emotions, but she doesn't. She's really sad and pathetic -- she thinks that the ersatz "Palestinians" will some day replace the Jewish state with something of their own. I guess that makes her delusional, too. A complete freakshow, is what she is.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, the military arm of the Fatah terrorist organization, has claimed credit for the massacre. Logic dictates that if they did not commit the massacre, they would have stepped forth and denied responsibility. There will be hell to pay for this massacre, and Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade knows it. They are proud of their "bravery" -- imagine the courage it takes to slit the throats of a sleeping family. No Thais, no settlers committed this crime. It was the ersatz "Palestinians," and they will be made to pay, and pay dearly.
10. One does wonder .....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.15.11)
why Japan, of all places, would have made itself so dependent on nuclear reactors. Never mind Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but Japan knows full well that their country is in one of the most active earthquake and tsunami zones in the world. Why weren't their reactors hardened to withstand at least a 10.0 on the Richter scale? I don't buy the lessened dependence on fossil fuels argument, either. It might work for a poorer country, but Japan can afford to import oil. Most of their oil is imported from Brunei, at favorable rates. Japan imports huge quantities of natural gas from Indonesia, as well. Japan gambled on nuclear power. They lost. I wonder if they will find the cost-savings worth it -- hundreds of thousands of people dislocated and displaced. The Japanese government is claiming that the radiation levels are higher than normal, but "acceptable." If that is really the case, then why are they scrambling to evacuate people from the areas of the damaged reactors? Why are they refusing to allow foreign agencies near their reactors (I don't buy the "aftershock risk" argument any longer)? We'll have to wait for the prevailing winds to bring the radioactive emissions to measurable locations, why which time it will have dissipated between 30% and 70%. That is how we will learn the true extent of the damage, just as was the case with Chernobyl.
11. All of you lay off Salma.
noa ,   israel   (03.15.11)
At least she is communicating. As for Japan, there are many organizations, if you go on CNN, that are accepting donations. The Japanese are only receiving 1/10 of what they need right now, and they will need a lot. But as I said, I would prefer to send through an organization from Israel. I know what ZAKA is, and that is good, but they need food, water, and just general help. Israel right away usually publishes numbers and organizations in the Ynet that it is possible to donate to, in the case of other country's crises. Where are they now?

I was wondering the same thing as you about the stability of the reactors. Japan says its buildings and bridges are earthquake proof, but why didn't they factor in their reactors especially, as you say, in an area so prone to earthquakes? As far as the radiation being "acceptable," why are they passing out potassium iodide? I can understand it for people who live close to the reactors, but Japan says they were evacuated.

Even worse, they've been told to stay inside their homes? WHAT HOMES? Anyone near that nuclear plant lost their home - Desperately sad situation. Such a humble dignified race of people.

Japan has now pretty much abandoned rescue and recovery efforts, and is scrambling to evacuate people from an ever-widening radius of the damaged nuclear reactors. Evidently the damage is worse than initially reported, and the Japanese are really desperate to contain the damage if they are pumping sea water in as coolant. Those reactors will never be operational again, not after sea water has been infused. (Untreated sea water is remarkably corrosive.) Sooner or later, we'll all be wiser, and if the prevailing winds do not shift, we will not know until the radiation cloud reaches Hawaii. I do think it is disgraceful that the Japanese government would rather sacrifice the lives of American citizens living in Hawaii than ask for help. I note they are scrambling to evacuate THEIR citizens, while sacrificing the lives of Americans. Perhaps Japan is not the loyal ally the United States seems to think it is.
16. #10 & 12 - Japan thought highest quake 7
Rebecca ,   Modi'in   (03.15.11)
Japan had calculated that the highest quake in that area could be about 7 and planned above that, but not as high as it was, which was much higher than expected. As for why they use nuclear - clean, cost and not tied to the oil suppliers. Fossil fuels are dirty and come with chains from the suppliers. When these were built natural energy was not sufficiently advanced to supply enough for Japan. Hopefully they will now lead the way with things like wind, sun and water energy.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.15.11)
You cannot predict the intensity of an earthquake, just as you cannot predict the intensity of volcanic eruptions. You can predict with reasonable accuracy the height of the tsunami wave once you know what the quake measured. If Japan did indeed assume that no quake affecting the country would exceed around 7.0 on the Richter scale, and based its hardening of the reactors on information it could not possibly have, then it is guilty of criminal negligence. If anyone dies from radiation sickness because of the radiation emitted from the damaged reactors, then Japan is guilty of criminally negligent homicide. Just so you know, dear, scrubbing technology has been developed to such a degree that the pollution emitted by burning coal, for example, is relatively negligible.

Those of you that think that a country's energy solution will be in wind, solar, and water technologies are not aware that these present technologies CANNOT generate enough energy to be self sustaining. That's the main reason they were not used. There is also a hidden "pollution" generated by these industries, as some of their parts/structures require polluting the environment to make them. Nothing is really "free"!!! As far as Japan's nuclear woes, they used "American" technology instead of a better "German" model for their nuclear reactors. The American model loves to use fuel rods which MUST have coolants, the German model uses PELLETS, which uses coolants but is not necessary. They have already documented this fact, and it would behoove those interested to research this.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.15.11)
All nuclear reactors require coolants. It's the only way to dissipate the energy that is not converted into electricity or radioactive isotopes or whatever the reactor is designed to generate.

They are passing out potassium iodide to those that will be exposed to the radiation carried by the wind, and that could be people living hundreds, or thousands of miles away from the accident site. Potassium iodide protects the thyroid but the iodide must be taken BEFORE exposure to have beneficial effect not after it. However, better late than never. I would suggest EVERYONE have some potassium iodide on hand, especially those in Hawaii, the West coast of the US, or anyone living near a nuclear powerplant.
21. Japan HAS asked lots of countries for help

why does Sarah B claim they haven't when anybody can prove her wrong by simply googling ''Japan earthquake''.

''Japan has now pretty much abandoned rescue and recovery efforts'' Where do you get this nonsense? From ELS Torah codes or somewhere? There are 100,000 Japanese on the ground and USAR teams from 16 countries at work in Japan. ''I do think it is disgraceful that the Japanese government would rather sacrifice the lives of American citizens living in Hawaii than ask for help. I note they are scrambling to evacuate THEIR citizens, while sacrificing the lives of Americans.'' Japan has asked for help from the US and others with the nuclear problem. You sound as crazy as the resident ELS Torah code looney
