1. secular disresepctful youth, secular media supporting them,
Secular and Honest ,   Israel   (03.15.11)
or haredi gangbusters? Clearly theres a lot biasing the report.
2. Always innocnet huh?
Israel   (03.15.11)
Well, we all know that rabbis are partial to lying to protect their own. Stand by for riots in Haifa.
3. Packing a knuckle-duster & knife?
Cameron ,   USA   (03.15.11)
Hmmmm
4. haredim and seculars - the next arab-israeli conflict
JEW1 ,   ASH & IL   (03.15.11)
Police should investigate the matter and ynet must make sure to report the outcome. The sad thing is that no matter what is the outcome, we as jews are loosing. Seculars must discipline their teens and haredim must understand that by this so called 'contamination' fear from seculars, they are also planting hatrate in their childrens mind. They are not doing is intentionally but the these are the results...
5. take the law into your own hands
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (03.15.11)
so it's only comply with the law when you deem it's to your way of thinking? even if what those secular boys did is true, those haredim broke the law and should be punished. the more anyone or any group breaks the law, the more the jails of israel should be filled with their kind. respect the law - if you don't like the law, get involved in the political process and change the law. otherwise you're a lawbreaker that needs to be in jail whenever you transgress it.
6. Out of control teens
JDE ,   Boston, USA   (03.15.11)
"While he did condemn the attack, Rabbi Gendler claimed that those involved were 16 and 18-year-old teens" This is becoming a serious problem. Their adolescents are running wild, often in packs, picking on innocent bystanders. This is by no means the first time secular or Modern Orthodox kids have been attacked, and it certainly won't be the last. Naturally, their leadership, the holy gedolim, say nothing. I refuse to give one penny to Israel until serious action is taken - and I mean disenfranchisement of entire families or communities in retaliation for these attacks. They have got to be made to understand (insofar as they are capable of understanding anything) that this behavior will result in the termination of the handouts they've come to expect.
7. hareidi thugs
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (03.15.11)
That there are thugs even among the Hareidi youth is no great revelation. We have all seen them and most of us do not attribute their behavior to the general Hareidi public just as we do not attribute any thug's behavior to its greater society as a whole. (the previous sentence does not apply to serial talkbackers). Let us assume that the truth lies somewhere between Rabbi Gender and the police and the victims were in the park and behaving inappropriately but not physically abusive to anyone, is that a reason to kidnap and assault them? If the victims were not secular would the thug youths reacted the same way?
8. these guys were thugs but not all haredi are the same
zionist forever   (03.15.11)
If its true the boys were harassing the children in the park I can understand some kind of response but this is noting more than a violent crime by religious thugs. Most people religious people don't carry knives and knuckle dusters unless they want to pick fights. The individuals concerned should be locked up and used as an example by the police that just because you study Torah doesn't allow you to beat up somebody you find annoying. It is understandable the rabbi is defending the thugs because its like a club they stick together. I imagine he would have probably had something to say to them behind closed doors but he wanted to keep this private not legal. As for the idea of haredi saying this seculars are not allowed here. Most the time providing your respectful such as women dressing modestly then as you go out your way to avoid upsetting anybody then the majority have no problem with seculars passing through. There are some haredi who are just off their head but unfortunately they live in the same part of town and dress the same way as the reasonable people so they all end up being branded as trouble makers.
9. Report was not that clear.
Rebecca ,   Modi'in   (03.15.11)
If, as this report reads, those arrested, were caught in the act, then their Rabbi is way out saying they were in Yeshiva. Now I know some of you will say the Rabbi is lying, but Rabbis are not THAT stupid. I think this report is missing a LOT of detail.
10. Brass knuckles are innocent? Inevitable result of separatism
Scott ,   USA   (03.15.11)
11. Haredi
Mike ,   UK   (03.15.11)
They are out of control, nothing to do but pray, envious of the seculars, no freedom, no money , no girls but..Torah, Torah, Torah. What do you expect of a disfunctional group of misfits? But its the Rabbis and communities I blame. As a jew I completely disassociate myself with them. They might just as well be living on the Moon.
12. Contradicting Reports
R ,   Jerusalem   (03.15.11)
This Ynet article says, "A search revealed that one of the suspects was carrying a knuckle duster while another suspect was carrying a knife" Yet, this article (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4042910,00.html) says, "Police officials say that in addition to the brass knuckles that were found on one of the victims," So, who's had the brass knuckles, Ynet? On top of that, according to one report, it was 30 haredim and another report, it was 3... Very confused on this...
