1. Catch them/debrief them/execute them immediately.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.16.11)
It is ludicrous to keep captured terrorists alive for long periods of time. It burdens hard pressed Israeli taxpayers. It provides motive for further terror to ransom them. It's wrong for every reason. Israel's policy towards terrorists should be simple: Catch them/debrief them (for information to stop further atrocities), execute them promptly.
2. Be Careful What You Wish For
World Citizen ,   the world   (03.16.11)
One day Israeli politicians and your military may face this sort of judgement. for their crimes against humanity.
3. This is the right approach
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (03.16.11)
In my state this what we do to animals terrorizing human beings. I know all this because I am the Best Ever World Affairs Expert in Training. My Tex-Mex Burrito Crystal Ball still informs me Obama reelected and it is always right even if Obama will not be reelected. It is all true, I only report the way I see it with 100/100 vision through Al Jazeera colored glasses 8000 miles away from Middle East and 11000 miles away from Korean Peninsula. Viva Mejico y Tejas Unidos! BLOODYTHIRSTY SCOT GREATEST EXPERT OF TEX-MEX BURRITOS, ENCHILADAS, FAJITAS, MIDDLE EAST, FAR EAST AND NOW HUMAN RIGHTS IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES!!!!!! DALLAS, TEXAS
4. Death penalty for terrorists serves two purposes.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (03.16.11)
1. They will NEVER be used as a bargaining chip. 2. Justice is served. The idea that the state never has the right to execute a terrorist murderer is simply stupid. The state had the right and duty to protect it's citizen's and if terrorists know they will not be executed they are more likely to kill.
5. I agree with you
Arik A ,   Guivat Yearim Israel   (03.16.11)
Those murderers are worse than animals and deserve death, and also to be buried with a dead pig, it is the only way to punish and scare those nazislamists.
6. 100% right !
(03.16.11)
7. Interesting...
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (03.16.11)
What guarantee is there that the "investigators, prosecutors and judges (would not) err and sentence a person who did not commit the crime to death?" Or would it not make a difference as long as ANY Palestinian were sentenced to death?
8. For those who murder children with their bare hands
Cameron ,   USA   (03.16.11)
Garrote in the marketplace.
9. maybe all(?) murders have a sadistic component, and so...
eporue ,   europe   (03.16.11)
the killer takes (some) "pleasure and satisfaction from their acts"... if the article on israeltoday, which has more details on the crime than it was published here/haaretz (english), then it doesnt look as if the killer was much after "pleasure and satisfaction"... they were killed very determined, quickly, e.g. stab into the heart. it seems, none of them was asleep. except for the toddler and the baby - maybe. and none of them cried (otherwise the son sleeping in the living room, might have woken up, or the others got out of bed), none of them started a fight. from this description, one might wonder, if they knew the killer and didnt find anything strange with its presence. right now, the oshrenko-killer is in prison. 6 people. and quite likely, he took much "pleasure and satisfaction" out of the prolonged ordeal. why not execute him ?
10. Just one question: What or Who is preventing execution?
Schreiber   (03.16.11)
11. Exactly Moshe no. 7
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (03.16.11)
Better to have 3 innocent terrorists executed than 3 innocent Jewish babies slaughtered by them. You are the man. The world will be a safer place with more clueless people like you. I know all this because I am the Best Ever World Affairs Expert in Training. My Tex-Mex Burrito Crystal Ball still informs me Obama reelected and it is always right even if Obama will not be reelected. 12. Death penalty for murderers
Aliza ,   Venice, CA   (03.16.11)
I do agree with you regarding the death penalty, but you must be very young, or not well educated in the history of Israel, to suggest that this was just the first murder of children in cold blood since the Nazi times. This is what terrorists do. All terrorists.
13. We already have the laws on the books
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.16.11)
Since the Arabs are targeting people because of their religion, that makes it genocide. That is a war-crime according to the UN. All we need to do is actually charge them with the crimes that they have already committed.
14. Right on
BH ,   Iowa   (03.16.11)
Death penalty will ensure the criminals are never released by a foolish government in exchange for hostages. They invariably go on to murder again.
15. Some take longer than others to recognize the face of evil
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.16.11)
"Until the day of the terrible murder" he writes, as if such terrible murders had never happened before. "Now I understand that today too, creatures that lack any hint of conscience or humanity do exist." Some people, regrettably, are slower to grasp reality than others. Was it not obvious after Sami Kuntar bashed the head of a child against a rock with his rifle butt? Did he miss the picture of youngsters with hands bloodied after butchering the bodies of two soldiers who stumbled into Ramallah? Was he out of town when similar acts were carried out against children in Kibbutz Metzer and (yes) Itamar nine years ago? No, that savagery, that lack of all human restraint and morality was there for all to see. But after facing that truth, we must accept another - that there are some crimes so heinous that the perpetrators do not belong among us, and justice calls for the ultimate punishment.
16. RESPONSE

18. Won't work #17
BH ,   Iowa   (03.16.11)
They drink Israel's water.
19. The death penalty
Sagi   (03.16.11)
implies that a trial should be held. This is wrong. No trial. Summary execution.
20. Death penalty for terrorism?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.16.11)
If Israel enacts a death penalty statute for terrorism, is there any doubt that the busiest person in all of Israel will be the hangman? We are not Iran; nor are we Saudi Arabia. We are DEFINITELY not the ersatz "Palestinians," for whom selling land to a Jew is a capital offense. I'm all for throwing terrorists into a dungeon for the rest of their natural lives and tossing away the key. No perks, no kind and gentle treatment -- just bread and water and 24 hours a day locked in a very small cell with only bread and water for sustenance and a copy of the Qu'ran for reading enjoyment. No books, magazines, newspapers, family visits, television, cellular phones or conversation. I believe it is far more effective a punishment than the death penalty. Hanging, if done properly, is quick and merciful. Terrorists deserve neither, particularly if it will only create martyrs -- and it will. Much better is to drop them down a hole and forget they even exist. (No 72 virgins; no rivers of honey; no international hue and outcry. Just terrorists sentenced to life imprisonment. )
21. Death penalty
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (03.16.11)
I see. So in the writer's view, two wrongs would make a right.
22.  CHILD MURDERERS
UNCLE JOE ,   U S A   (03.16.11)
to my friend number 18 . you're right my friend, maybe poisoning their water is a BIT unreasonable . After all why kill them. let us be humane to them and all wewould do then is MAKE them ,ah i meant to say just politely ask them to please WALK IN FRONT OF ISRAELI TANKS AS MINE CLEANING TOOLS .in the next CLEANUP of gaza and lebanon .
23. @2 You sound familiar
Albert Camus ,   Amsterdam   (03.16.11)
World citizen, you regularly post in all Jewish/Israeli newspapers in English except the Jewish Forward. It takes a lot of time to read all the articles and post comments. Yet you are not a Jew or Palestinian. You refer to Jews as "you" and "your' and you do not even bother to say nice things about the Palestinians. No, you concentrate on anti-Zionist/Jewish rhetoric. This posting of yours is a "warning". Surprisingly enough you use the same language as "Split" used in the Forward to warn me. BTW Mr/Ms moderator, Split is a pseudonym for rehmat, a rabid antisemite who glorifies nazis.
24. Why death penalty is NOT an option.
Jules   (03.17.11)
The reason is only one: TO PREVENT IRREVOCABLE CONSEQUENCES of wrong decisions. You can free a person who was erroneously sentenced, but you cannot resurrect the dead, even if he was found innocent lately. This is the method for the society TO PROTECT ITSELF against errors, not to ease the punishment for criminals. If you think that life sentence is not good enough, try to lock yourself in the bathroom and live there for, say, a week.
25. graczek #21
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.17.11)
So when is Maryland going to stop their death penalty? The pot is calling names again.
26. To: No. 21
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.17.11)
Needless to say, you are manning the ramparts daily protesting against the death penalty in the State of Maryland, isn't that right? And how do you feel about selling land to a Jew (a private transaction) being a capital offense in the "Palestine" Authority? You are such a mealy-mouthed hypocrite! Spare us your platitudes; we have no use for them.
27. Life in Prison is better than Death
Frank ,   Modiin   (03.16.11)
Child killers don't get the best treatment on the inside .... I'd rather the F_____ who is probably in his early 20's spend the next 50 years enjoying the consequences of his crime ...... who knows, he might by accident slip in the shower or fall down some stairs and for sure he will enjoy his daily dose of sodomy
28. Worst Idea yet...
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.17.11)
First of all, STOP COMPARING EVERYTHING TO NAZIS!!! Yes, this murderer is a horrible, vile human being but people can be horrible and vile without being Nazis. Comparing everything to the Holocaust cheapens it. Second, executing people will sound great to this crowd until it's a Jew's turn to be executed. Third, look at the countries that have capital punishment versus those that don't. Which side would you rather be on?
29. Death penalty
Fluffi ,   Germany   (03.16.11)
Only countries like Iran, North Korea, USA and Saudi Arabia have the death penalty.
30. Their village should be razed also and not
jason white ,   afula, israel   (03.16.11)
allow them to rebuild. However the ones that allowed this to happen, the fools that gave us the oslo death accords and those in the knesset that voted for it should be jailed for life. The I.D.F. officers that are afraid to go after terrorists and the rest of the security people that harm Jews in our liberated territories should lose all rank and pensions and be removed from security work. The palis should lose their sponsor in the president's house and his "peace" center closed forever.
