1. can't the IDF carpet bomb this area to
Barney ,   USA   (03.18.11)
a distance that they are unable to shoot mortars and then have drones that target terrorists that enter the "clear" zone? enough already
2. Gaza firing missiles into Israel
M.Gerald Fried ,   Skokie. IL. USA   (03.18.11)
Since entire world doesn't see to care how many missiles are fired into Israel Europe can't condemn the action of Hamas. Israel should go back Into Gaza an not leave until they kill or remove every member of Hamas. When they finish they can turn Gaza over to Abbas. Unless Israel wants to wait until Hashem range an aim improves an 100's of Israel's are killed or injured.
3. #1 - nah. Even if we drop a single bomb on an open field
Roger the Shrubber   (03.18.11)
Pallis will come up with ten infant bodies and claim Israel bombed a nursery
4. It's Funny in a Way
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (03.18.11)
These guys spend what seems like most of their money on weapons. Lately, the good thing is, the weapons are all going to Israel and Egypt. You can only wonder what housing, road, sewage, power plant etc., improvements Hamas could be offering their people in Gaza. Instead of begging for money from all the Oil sheiks and whatever other sources they have maybe they should build more? Maybe providing real jobs as opposed to smuggling tunnel work would help with unemployment. But as the world can see, Hamas doesn't want peace. Israel has no peace partner at all. Hamas isn't trying to arm themselves to the the teeth to make peace, are they? So please save the crap about settlements, and building in East Jerusalem. The way things are going Israel should be ready to just send the Arabs to Jordan or where ever else they came from. Since as most know, the majority came for the jobs Israel created at the beginning of the 20th century.
5. To: Roger at No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.18.11)
So true. And the worst part is, the ersatz "Palestinians" will kill those ten infants themselves, just for the photo op. We saw that happen during the intifadas. What despicable monsters they are!
6. what do you mean by carpet bombing?
sam ,   houston, tx   (03.18.11)
Gaza is so tiny someone farts in the far north he will be heard in the far south. The city of Houston is about 4 times the size of the Gaza Strip with 1.5 million inhabitants imagine what would carpet bombing do.
7. stupid defense minister
fad egypt   (03.18.11)
till when mr barak will stay doing nothing to defend the people of israel should he wait till these deadly mortars cause casualties in order to take an action ???!!!!!!! this is ridiculous israel must invade gaza , bring down the hamas regime establish a bufer zone of 10 miles depth between gaza and the israel communities retake the control over the philadalphae route between gaza and egypt to prevent the weapons smuggling and try to bring back gilad shalit without involving in shameful prisoners exchange which will endanger all of israel either bibi fires this man and replace him with moshe yaalon to do the job or he can go home and take barak with him shalom
8. Their bombs haven't hit yet a school full of kids
jose   (03.18.11)
When a country allows his territory to be bombed without adequate response, except a few pinpricks here and there, then go on crying to this damned UN; I am probably living in the wrong country. NO will, NO backbones, NO leadership. Posturing, just like arabs do, seem to be the norm in the Mideast.
9. Barak's tactical ineptitude is a betrayal of Israel
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (03.18.11)
Barak should be destroying Gaza targets like their new Hamas-built harbor or taking out all the heavy trucks they use to more weapons. He thinks because no body is hit that there's no problem letting the rockets and mortars continue. But endless bombardment near Sderot and other civilians disrupts their daily lives, which is terrorism's goal. IDF should be responding with 30 cal, Gatling guns mounted in C130s or the like, spraying the firing positions in Gaza or a regular basis from israeli airspace, not just when they shoot. At 7-8000 feet, too high for Hamas to hit with Strelas, and if they do fire at planes inside Israeli airspace - RIP GAZA APART, starting with all their EU-supplied infrastructure, and by seizing a 3-mile strip North of Rafah to the Med., ending smuggling for good (annex this strip to Israel, surrounding Gaza). Its a mistake to think Obama or EU are going to stop a Cast Lead 2 - they lack the means, the will or the balls. The UN?? UN=US, and Congress will stop Obama from any stupidity, his presidency is finished anyway.
10. Why do you call them terrorists?
Jake ,   USA   (03.18.11)
It is the Gaza government that is at war with Israel. Just because they are weak and primitive, doesn't make them any less of a government. They, the government of Gaza, is lobbing rockets at the sovereign territory of Israel. Why is this not considered an act of war? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT?
11. #6: It is not THAT small, SAM.
Israeli 2   (03.18.11)
Thanks to your talkback I think we can put all the Palis in Gaza and solve the so called West bank dilemma. They will all fit in there for sure. One of Sharon's big blunders is that when he handed over Gaza, he should have made the condition that all Palis would or should be transfered over there. PHEW!!!
12. Fad 7
jorge stern ,   mexico   (03.18.11)
you are too logical. Stay safe
13. Israel deserves every rocket from Gaza
Yaniv ,   Israel   (03.18.11)
If we fired 100 rockets into Gaza for every one that lands in Israel, the war would be over. We deserve everything that happens to us, because we are to weak and stupid to do what's best for our survival and care too much what the world thinks.
14. mmmm,
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.18.11)
"Israel" will do everything possible to stop Abu-Mazen's visit to Gaza!
15. #13
Dan ,   USA   (03.18.11)
Even if the military wanted to use overwhelming force, the politicians would stop the IDF short of victory. That is the sad state of affairs in Israel for the past three prime ministers. Israeli voters must wake up and elect people who put Israel ahead of all else.
16. Why is it these guys shoot at themselves
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (03.18.11)
Have you ever wondered how many of the Hamas rockets land in their own territory. As the article stated: "Some of them landed in Palestinian territory" Actually this happens quite frequently, and when they kill their own people, they try to blame Israel. I always get a good laugh out of it., heck they probably have killed quite a few of their own, I know for a fact they kill their own children with these misfired rockets. Did you know when they kill their own people, they call them martyrs, and include them on the list of martyrs, implying Israel killed them when in fact, it was Hamas who killed their own kids. These are some sick puppies.
17. Interesting
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.18.11)
Not a word printed about this in Haaretz? Oh well, we will hear plenty when the military responds. Besides, they're too busy celebrating Gideon Lev's Euro tour paid for by the Schockens promoting International "kill a Jew week" while speaking at podiums festooned with Hamas flags
18. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.18.11)
It will do precisely the same thing as the Allies' carpet bombing of Germany did in Germany -- put an end to the war. Or do you think it is perfectly acceptable for Hamas to fire missiles and mortars into Israeli population centers without Israeli reprisal? I remind you that Israel waited through eight years of daily missile barrages before responding with Operation Cast Lead. In a similar circumstance, how long would the U.S. wait to retaliate if missiles started to come sailing into Texas from Mexico? About eight seconds, I think.
19. to salma and sam
Barney ,   USA   (03.18.11)
ok sam, it may be too small for carpet bombing but what about some well directed artillery fire? salma, salma, salma, everything is an Israeli conspiracy. did you look under your bed to make sure that no IDF boogie men are there checking your talkbacks?
20. To: Jake at No. 10
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.18.11)
Gaza does not have a "government." It is non-sovereign territory, not a country. Just because they like to give themselves fancy titles such as "Politburo Chairman" and "Minister of Defense" doesn't make it so. They are a terrorist organization; recognized as such by most of the countries in the world and ALL of the countries that really matter. Only countries can go to war, not terrorist rabbles. But Israel has been far too lenient in its response, with that I agree with you completely. However, sooner or later, Israel will have to take back Sinai; Gaza, too, will fall.

What are the odds that he will return, ya'habla?
22. Hamas is getting nervous
Western European   (03.18.11)
because of the recent Gaza-demonstrations. Its obvious, Hamas is trying to deflect. I hope the Israeli Gov. is smart enough and wont step into Hamas's trap
23. #6 WHAT DO WE MEAN CARPET ?
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (03.18.11)
Carpet bombing is when the IAF drop s a carpet on a target .
24. fad egypt @ 7
Moragh   (03.18.11)
Well written fad. well done. Very good suggestions. I'll go along with you.
25. # 14, Salma
MG ,   New Jersey, USA   (03.19.11)
Hi Salma: It may be just the right thing for Abbas to go to Gaza (then maybe we can keep him there). Besides that, and more seriously, if there is an agreement between the PA and Hamas, it will probably mean that the peace process is over. Hamas will never agree to the 3 basic conditions of the international community; Israel's right to exist; abide by all past agreements; and renounce violence. Since it is almost a given that Hamas will never agree to those conditions; then this sham of a peace process will finally be over. How can Israel even think of negotiating with Abbas when he does not represent the Palistinians. How about Hamas? If Bibi had any sense, he would refuse to negotiate with the other side until they were united and in agreement with the international communities 3 basic requirements. Heck, if we had that, I would even agree to a settlement freeze. I believe that on this basis, peace is possible. Do you?
26. to Salma 14
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (03.19.11)
Are you suggesting to knock off Abbas? For goodness sake -he's your father. You truly need urgent help.Quick, flog your donkey to the nearest Israeli hospital.Don't worry about the cost-the US and Israel aid will pay the bill as usual for all refugees.

BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (03.19.11)
I thought you died at the Alamo Want to know what carpet bombing can do, the Allies did it to Dresden in WW2 However, in this case, I would suggest napalm, it really gets to the root of the problem You'll get the idea
