31. "There is no business like shoah business..."
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NJ   (03.20.11)
32. Benefit or justification
Baruch Jamili ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (03.20.11)
It's a fine line between the the two. We far too often justify the things we do because of the Holocaust and that doesn't work. Benefit - how? As for Europe, very recently there was as story from France of someone being arrested for saying something anti-semitic - the clothes designer Galliano. So there are tough laws against anti-Semitism. Is that enough?
33. Eastern Europe
Sam M ,   UK   (03.20.11)
Eastern Europe has always been primitive and backward with a shameful history of anti-semitism though Bulgaria was a notable exception to it's eternal credit. No suprise then that so many Poles and Hungarians are still living in the dark ages.
34. Wonder what the figures are in Germany
Danny   (03.20.11)
when you strip out those of turkish origin?
35. Gosh - that is really representative!
Sarah ,   Haifa   (03.20.11)
1,000 people polled out from more that 340million - wow - must be accurate! How pathetic to get worked up by a number that doesn't even represent a percent of a percentage!!!!
36. Wiesenthal Center
Albert Camus ,   Amsterdam   (03.20.11)
One form of antisemitism according to the EUMC is: 'accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group....." Now, I think the Wiesenthal Center "uses' the Holocaust to get a donation from me. This is criticism of one Jewish organization. What antisemites would do is use this example as "proof" that "Jews" as a people exploit the Holocaust.
37. Dubious translation of some questions
Justine   (03.20.11)
The English text talks about "war of extermination" against the Palestinians. Researchers in Poland used "niszczycielska wojna" (destructive war) instead. It's not the same thing. "Niszczycielska wojna" doesn't allude to genocide/physical extermination in the same way "war of extermination" does.
38. to Sam M - UK vs. Eastern Europe
Justine   (03.20.11)
If it wasn't for Eastern Europe, you wouldn't live in the UK today. Because Poland accepted and sheltered Jews and gave them rights when your "enlightened" and developed England simply expelled and banned them for over 300 years.
39. Poll reveals the spirit of AntiSemitism
Brod ,   USA   (03.20.11)
The people being polled are mainly Papists whose early church fathers invented AntiSemitism. Papism reign of terror for 1260 years commencing from 538 AD to 1798 during the Dark Ages when they persecuted Jews and Judeo-Christians is a well known historical fact. The spirit of AntiSemitism led to the Holocaust. Today, these dark forces have resurfaced.
40. polls- worthless
Laura   (03.20.11)
1000 people were asked- wow- let's see... 1000 out of how many million? About the same chances as winning a lottery. How can an intelligent person believe such a poll, especially with leading questions like this.? Very unprofessional to say the least. Did they deliberately poll in Muslim areas, pick out a Neo Nazi group?
41. (20), Brod
tiki ,   belgium   (03.20.11)
Loved your comment....The 'big boss in Rome 'officially declared last month (right, it took him a few thousand years), but never late than never, that the Jews didn't kill Jesus or JR.
42. you always qoute te holocaust, that´s right
ivan ,   haifa   (03.20.11)
even to threaten palestinians, like Vilnai when he said "we´ll do something worse than holocaust to palestinians"
43. Proof Positive
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.20.11)
That in 1500 years of Vatican existence and "Christ-killing" dogma, nothing has changed
44. honi soit qui mal y pense
jo   (03.20.11)
Europeans were never saints in dealing with Jews. After filling their ovens to capacity, Europeans got busy filling their pockets, the estates belonging to their victims..I won't mention the Nazis or the Poles who were tops in pillaging from their friends, neighbors. The Nazis complained that the French were over-zealous in handing over jews to the Gestapo. The Swiss made billions $$$ with the Nazis stolen art work, gold, cash and to show good faith, allowed the famed " death trains" to cross over their country en route to hell. Hungarians were born Jew haters, and I can go on and on. Crooks, thieves, murderers are always reluctant to hand over loot acquired illegally. Even today, many countries who collaborated with Hitler, refuse to return goods and property to the descendants of those they helped to massacre. One doesnt need to have a think-tank give you the " numbers " All one has to do is to visit the countries mentionned and realise that " it's " in the air, the population's attitude, the Govt's complicity, the media, That the slaughtering Jews is being passed from father to son; from church to church; from Pope to Pope.
45. So we are the ones causing all the trouble.
vicky ,   ashkelon Israel   (03.20.11)
Does that not defy logic, as no one can deny the holocaust, but one can deny that the troubles of this world are all caused by arab terrorists or arab countries. Most of which kicked us out years ago. Perhaps we should AGAin renaim the "Protocols of Napolean" to "The Protocols of Islam". 50 Missiles were fired in to Israel from Gazza yesterday, and not a word. Of course we will keep on about the holocaust because we will not let it happen again! These polls conducted were from known anti=semetic countries, and as far as I can see nothing has been learnt or changed over 70 years from either country. When will they learn that WE WILL DEFEND OUSELVES !
46. to Laura and Sara - 35 and 40
Justine   (03.20.11)
You don't know much about polling, don't you? ;) 1,000 respondents is perfectly sufficient to generate robust findings if the sample is representative. There's a whole science (statistics, mathematics) behind it and that's how polls are conducted all over the world. Nobody polls millions of people.
47. I live in Poland
Yotam ,   Poland   (03.20.11)
I could be wrong, but I live in poland its a rather conservative country and I have never met a single polish person with anti-jewish attitude although I have seen some near a soccer game, that is it. On the other hand I haven't met a single Polish person who likes arabs, and there are very few muslims in poland compared to the rest of Europe and even fewer jews. I have talked about the subject of Israel with many Poles and I think this survey is not reflecting the reality, could be wrong as I said and I am sure the people who made the survey are much more informed than I am.
48. 25 No, it is far deeper; below conscious awareness (2nd try)
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.20.11)
Most of the hate derives from two religions that have one thing in common: they are a displacement theology claiming to be rightful heirs to the Biblical covenant. Consider that for the first few decades after 1948 the Christian world initially loved Israel. Today, Entebbe would be viewed as a bullying attack. Why? Because for those first few decades, Christians around the world swelled with joy over the prospect that, after two millennia, Israel would finally "see" and flock to Yesh"u and the fullfillment their NT prophesies of the kingdom of Yesh"u was imminent. Now, however, the reality that Jews are NOT flocking to their Yesh"u has set in. Their view of Jews has subsequently reverted to the old impediment to Yesh"u rather than the brief hope that the reemergence of Israel heralded the flocking of Israel to Yesh"u and "the Rapture." For Torah to be true necessarily demonstrates that the other two are false--and, even when it is subconsious, they HATE that possibility out of an innate fear that goes to the core of their souls. When you insist Jews should survive, whether you like it or not they understand the existence of Judaism / Torah means that neither displacement religion has actually displaced the original Biblical people: Israel--and the unavoidable implication is that our existence invalidates their religions, personal salvation or 72 virgins, etc. After 3500 years of attempts at displacement theology via assimilation (from Bilam and Haman through the Inquisition and the Holocaust), you may as well face up to it. Not even atheists calling themselves Jews will EVER change that. It's religious--even from those who don't consciously think of themselves as religious. Deal with it: confront and debate displacement theologies in an open forum (evangelize as we did before the Romans made it a capital offense--and rabbis later internalized it as "tradition") or disappear. 49. to #13 No...
Dave from Brazil ,   Sao Paulo   (03.20.11)
only Israelis from Morocco, Iraq, Yemen, and Ethiopia. The Palestinians don't seem to care about them, they only care if the Israeli is of Eastern European descent for some odd reason...
50. Astonishing poll!
(03.20.11)
51. #47
Polish Jew ,   Israel   (03.21.11)
Don't be fooled to believe that everyone thinks like you're friends and family. Anti semitism is still strong in Poland. But still, this article asked the question rather wrongly. But I wouldn't be surprised if the poll was a little twisted and the numbers are a little more optimistic. For example, instead of asking "Jews try to take advantage of having been victims during the Nazi era" the question should be: "DO Jews WRONGLY try to take advantage of having been victims during the Nazi era." For all we know the organizers of the poll may have walked right into a neo-Nazi pub in poland and asked 3 guys to represent Poland. No polls can be 100% trusted, remember that.
52. To Salma 13
Shimon ,   Poleg   (03.20.11)
More Jews lost there homes, in fact 1,000,000 Jews lost there homes in Moslem countries in a real Nakba! My parents from Aden and my wife's family from Tripoli are amongst them. In you imaginary Nakba 800,000 Arabs ran from their homes in 48 while those with intelligence remain in them until this day. Go to Jaffa, Haifa Akko and see intelligent Arabs who never listened to the nonsense propoganda lies spued by your leaders. These Arabs remain in their homes! Only the fools ran!. The Jews in their Nakba had no choice. So you know what Salma you can have my parents house in Aden! or my in-laws house in Zlitan, but there's no way you'll ever live in Isael!
53. taking advantage
Justine   (03.21.11)
The question asks whether Jews "try to take advantage". Trying is not the same as ripping benefits. Yes, Jews do use arguments such as: "Israel must exist to shelter Jews from another Holocaust so if you criticize it, you're paving the way for another Shoah ". Or "you don't have the right to criticize us because we suffered Holocaust in Europe". Whatever you think of the validity of those arguments, they do amount to trying to win the argument by using the Holocaust card. And yes, Jews are not the only ones, other nations use past victimization in this way, but the poll only asked about Jews (I wonder what would Germans say about Poles or Russians playing the victims card). There is also "internal cohesion" factor. The Holocaust is often used to teach the young generation of Jews that they must support all Israeli actions because if they don't they will face annihilation. I read somewhere how an Israeli colonel boasted that if an officer is not certain about his desire to stay in the army, the best way to persuade him is to send him to tour concentration camps. So no need to argue that Israel is a great country worth fighting for, just imply that the choice is between the current course and annihilation.
54. To Samy # 13
Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (03.21.11)
... and please don't forget to add to your list the following: Jews from Algeria, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Morrocco, Lybia, etc, who lost their homes and are now occupied by your pals (not Pelestinians).
55. Stop complaining about anti-Semites.
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.21.11)
Even if you can shut them up you can't change their hearts. They will never change. Ancient and modern history is proof of that. So if you live amongst jealous Jew haters, I suggest you return to your home land a.s.a.p and let them try to find someone else to blame for their miserable lives.
56. Yeah, keep telling that to yourself.
Pat Carmeli ,   Cazenovia NY USA   (03.21.11)
All sorts of people all across the globe are waking up to the horrendous actions of the State of Israel.
57. Anti-Semitism & Islamophobia
Fluffi ,   Germany   (03.21.11)
The report mentioned in the article above deals with six different kinds of prejudices: Anti-Immigrant attitudes, Racism, Anti-Semitism, Homophobia, Anti-Muslim attitudes and Sexism. Amongst other things, the report correlates these prejudices with each other; and which prejudices correlate with Anti-Semitism the most? Guess what: Anti-Muslim and Anti-Immigration attitudes! In other words, people who hate Muslims frequently tend to hate Jews and the other way round (primarily in Germany, France, Britain and the Netherlands). So much for supporting Anti-Islam/Immigration populists like Wilders, what unfortunately quite some talkbackers here do.
58. #51, Date of poll
Fluffi ,   Germany   (03.21.11)
It should be noted that the poll took place in autumn/winter 2008/09, presumably during 'Operation Cast Lead', what surely had a negative influence on the results.
59. #5 Truly an idiotic comment
Tahl   (03.21.11)
There is absolutely no relation at all, between current events of Israel and the Palestinians (of which you are totally clueless, but that's besides the point), and those classic-antisemitic sentiments expressed by Europeans on Jews. Only a true Jew-hater would have the audacity and idiocy to connect the two issues. And what are you doing in Tel Aviv anyway? If you are so "sick of Israel", feel free to get the hell out.
60. #31 David Irving would be so proud.
