Baruch Jamili ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (03.23.11)
...and the monkies don't get it. Shame.
33. Monkey...
Pinhas Bayit ,   Bet HaKerem   (03.23.11)
Monmkey see Mokey do - hear no evil see no evil speak no evil?? Unlikely.
34. Its about time
Howard ,   USA   (03.23.11)
What a great and tthought provoking column. An outsider has more empathy and understanding for Israel then two of its so called eminent writers.I highly recommend Mr. Meotti's book"A New Shoah".It will leave a lasting impression on you.He does more for Isreal with his writing then anything Oz or Gorssman ever will.
35. The enemy is inside
Claudedeparis ,   France   (03.23.11)
Some Israeli novelists to be recognized in Western countries have first to criticize Israel. Then they can enter into "the Hall of Fame". They just have to betray their country and their people. Peanuts for them.
36. Unfortunately it is Meotti who does not see reality
sh   (03.23.11)
Those authors have understood what the self-deluding refuse to see. Their ambition was to open eyes and in that they seem to have failed. Meotti's remain tight shut.

39. Understanding is not the same as agreeing
Frans Schütt ,   Nijmegen, Holland   (03.23.11)
I agree that Israel has to defend itself against evil, but a counterattack with revenge as motive never solved a problem. So keeping on speaking terms with the enemy and trying to understand him is always the first step to peace. Doing such a thing can't be immoral. And don't forget: trying to understand someone is not the same thing as agreeing with him.
40. Oz and Grossman
Rob ,   USA   (03.24.11)
Bravo, Mr. Meotti! Authors of lofty novels but feet never on the ground. How complacent and perverse to perenially criticize the state that allows them their opportunity and good fortune but to never have to make a difficult decision, never have to emit one bead of sweat, They have now achieved a reputation for themselves which will undoubtedly result in them being eschewed and ignored.
41. Just because someone is a best selling
jason white ,   afula, israel   (03.24.11)
author or a billionaire does not mean they know everything. That is their occupation write books or make money. If they are good at it,then it is the same as someone who builds kitchen cabinets that last for 30 years or fixes a motor that works like new again. That is their job. Being good at your profession does not make you smarter than the rest of the population. You do not know how to solve all the problems in your country. Even Einstein needed a plumber with a 8th grade education to fix his plumbing. So let them stick to writing their books and if they love the palis so much, convert to islam and move to gaza or saudi arabia. We can do without them and their kind here. If you are not with us, then you are against us and we should treat you as the enemy.
42. #30
Sandy ,   Israel   (03.24.11)
Perfect example of an ad hominem attack. You can't touch the truth of the writer's arguments, so you attack him as an "anti-intellectual" and (oy vey!) a Catholic!
43. Perhaps his son is Ziony, unlike his father?
Panda ,   Tel Aviv   (03.24.11)
Many people have lost friends and family to war and terror attacks. It is not a good enough reason to bash your country and spread lies.
