What a great and tthought provoking column.An outsider has more empathy and understanding for Israel then two of its so called eminent writers.I highly recommend Mr. Meotti's book"A New Shoah".It will leave a lasting impression on you.He does more for Isreal with his writing then anything Oz or Gorssman ever will.

Some Israeli novelists to be recognized in Western countries have first to criticize Israel. Then they can enter into "the Hall of Fame". They just have to betray their country and their people. Peanuts for them.

I agree that Israel has to defend itself against evil, but a counterattack with revenge as motive never solved a problem. So keeping on speaking terms with the enemy and trying to understand him is always the first step to peace. Doing such a thing can't be immoral. And don't forget: trying to understand someone is not the same thing as agreeing with him.

author or a billionaire does not mean they know everything. That is their occupation write books or make money.If they are good at it,then it is the same as someone who builds kitchen cabinets that last for 30 years or fixes a motor that works like new again. That is their job. Being good at your profession does not make you smarter than the rest of the population. You do not know how to solve all the problems in your country.
