feels brave and launch attacks at Israel only in the presence of kids at the front of them, is this hamas way or arab way? now who is a coward?
33. Israel is making miracles
observer ,   Egypt   (03.22.11)
by killing civilians, Israel is trying to convince terrorists to not hide behind civilians as if Israel thought that terrorists have brains and hearts.
34. Where is the UN to stop Hamas?
PS ,   N/A   (03.22.11)
Why does the UN let Hamas launch rockets into Isreal on a regular basis? These terrorist need to be brought before a UN court.

36. Civilians in a war zone don't have "protected" status
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.22.11)
One guiding principle of the modern laws of war is the concept of "distinction" - combatants vs. non-combatants. The latter have a "protected" status - that is they are not to be targeted - as long as that distinction is maintained and not superseded by greater military objectives. By firing from among or proximate to the civilian population, these militants are depriving the civilians of Gaza of that protected status. Nonetheless, the IDF attempts to maintain that distinction whenever possible - not just by attempting to drive civilians from a combat zone but by developing munitions that are more accurate and "just right" in destructive power to minimize collateral damage. That these latest operations resulted roughly in a 1:1 balance between combatants and civilians is thus remarkable, and to Israel's credit. Netanyahu may "regret" the loss of civilian life, but Israel has nothing to apologize for.
37. keep going and don't stop
alexi   (03.23.11)
grad fired on ashkelon-hit police stations, fule depots, anyone approaching fence or no man's land, docks, airport, government security office, wood and metal shops, arouind the clock, 24 hours straight, don't stop and don't apologize for nothing. france can go to hell for saying PLO state in 2011 as sarkozy has gutless streak in hi s veins-he cannot sustain libya venture on his own, US is backing out and so tries to assuage his arab citizens by forcing a PLO state which he cannot and he should shut th ehell up. israel is a powerful military and england and france together do not threaten israel and it should know its strength and start to use it. If there is to be a PLO state and it is debatable, israel will decide on it. And eu and usa will not force israel to do it. They cannot even do libya. and stop giving in to putin who will one day be hanged the russians when they come to their senses. In the meantime, medvedev and putin play their good cop bad cop game.

39. IDF has nothing to apologize for
Paul ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.23.11)
Everytime Palestinian deaths occur Hamas acts as if IDF had nothing better to do then kill their Human Shields. The IDF has nothing to apologize for. There should be no sympathy for those who bring hellfire on themselves.
40. Why now?
EZ   (03.23.11)
Hamas is scared of their own people and the push for change in the Middle East. There have been demonstrations in Gaza and Hamas is as popular now as Fatah was before the 2006 elections. Therefore, the only outlet is to start a war with Israel and hope for international condemnation. Since Hamas stopped firing missiles at Israel in January 2009, things have been relatively quiet.

Iranian Jew ,   LA   (03.23.11)
If you claim to be such peace loving country them man up. Take your Gaza back and govern them tha way you should have. Stop giving homework to others on how to conduct war. Why don't you accpet your own Egyptian brothers? We are cowards and you are the loving kind. Unless you just know how to talk and as usual can't walk the walk. Which is by the way the way ME has been run for decades.
43. living in the past!!!!

Israels military of today is nothing like the israeli military of the late 40's and late 60's 40's and 60's military was to be feared today they are not that feared....may the lord forever bless the state of israel

48. palestinians refuse to recognise Israel
asis ,   detroit, U.S.A.   (03.23.11)
someone once said that arabs view peace as a lull between wars. it is true !!! sadly, they refuse to seek a peaceful resolution and continue to use terrorism with the belief that their only final goal is the complete and final destruction of Israel period........
49. And stop stealing ethiopia and Sudan's water
Anton orde ,   Jos, Nigeria   (03.23.11)
50. #6 - speaking of cowards
William ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
There were not 5 but rather 9 altogether - 3 of them were civilians. That's 30% civilians and 70% TERRORISTS! Conversely, you scum attacked a bus depot where NO soldiers were, injuring 30 and killing 1 civilian. That's 100% CIVILIANS and 0% military. So who are the cowards here? Take a look in the mirror scum
51. #7 - intelligence on the ground and drones in the air
William ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
We have many spies in Gaza and use drones to monitor the situation before, during, and after the attack, making assessments on the decision to go ahead up to the last minute. Israel has called off MANY operations because of the presence of civilians in the area. One such incident is where Hamas called women and children to stand on and around a building that housed the apartment of a Hamas leader. Israel called off the operation (of course) but no one condemned the obvious use of human shields which is a WAR CRIME!
52. #33 - terrorists may not have brains or hearts...
William ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
but they sure do have Arab support. No one has condemned terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians with any real force behind it nor have they condemned terrorist for using human shields or killing civilians when rockets fall short or weapons go off prematurely.
53. #40 - I believe the cause is wider than this
William ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
True, Hamas is trying to make themselves more necessary as a protector (because they such as a govt) by provoking Israel to a response. Hizbullah uses this method too in the days leading up to their take over of the Lebanese govt. But more issues are at stake here: It put Hamas' agenda back on the table and effectively blocked reconciliation (which Abbas was hoping to push), but it was also ordered by Iran to deter intl attention from them as well as tell Arabs to join the Shia revolution against the West and Israel. It may also be payback by Iran for stopping their arms ship again and showing the world the true global terrorists are in Tehran. Now what Israel needs to do is make calls for peace while they beat the living crap out of the "Palestinians", and I don't mean a few empty buildings or fields, I mean wipe the floor with them - like demolish the Mukata, hit every smuggling tunnel, and nail no fewer than 10 Hamas, PRC, and IJ leaders. Then target Iran in 3 covert operations that will see no less than 5 IRG executives killed, and Iranian opposition armed. All while Israel calls on the UN, UNSC, etc. to condemn and make resolutions against "Palestinians" for their terror.
54. #43 - that's because politicians of today not same as 40s
William ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
Back then, Israeli politicians fought for the survival of the State and protection of its people. They got out of the way of the IDF and focused on diplomacy and foreign PR efforts. Today, Israeli politicians are comfortable, only focus on their own political futures and building their wealth. Infact, it's not so different from the crap that Arab countries are dealing with now. The IDF has never gotten weaker they just need to shed the incompetence and do the job they now how to do.
