4. Nicely put - call it a sad day for Israel if you want....
Andy ,   Washington, DC   (03.23.11)
But I call it a good one. You think he's the only person to enter a high position and abuse women? It happens every day all over the world. Only in Israel, the perp is doing time. Kol ha'kavod, Israel.
5. Justice israeli style
Michael Pielet ,   Boca Raton, Usa   (03.23.11)
The only reason katsav was found guilty was because of israeli society's hatred of religious people. There is not one scintilla of corroborative evidence that a rape ever occurred. No semen, nothing. Just the word of a women who waited nine years to report a rape. Why did she wait nine years? where is the physical evidence. A man's blood is spilled because of Israeli society's prejudice against katsav. Why did the judges believe the woman and not Katsav. Where is the evidence? There was a crime commited, Katsav was raped by the court, the press and the irrational hatred of Israelies, particularly heloni women against religious people. Now I know how the jews felt during WW2 when they were hunted down and murdered by the Nazis because OF THE CRIME THEY COMMITTED, THEY WERE JEWS. Know Israeli society does the same to Katsav.
6. To # 5 you are probally right but ...
Norman   (03.23.11)
When 10,000 Jews lost their houses and land and were expelled from Gush Katif by the Sharon Gov't Where was Katzav ??? So the land was given to arab terrorist and in turn he was Judged by a Arab. Unfortunately Look were Sharon is and the the rest oh the Leaders involved in the Gush Katif Debacle. But I fully agree with your analisys plus there is certain proof of blackmail by the woman and there is no jhard evidence against Katzav.
7. I am happy- that we must not despair
good ,   IL   (03.23.11)
still we may have justice in our system- what i dont understand is the 45 days to prepare himself- for what?
8. Warped priorities
Marcella   (03.23.11)
Just look around you, Mr. Lapid. While the Middle East is turning into an even more threatening beast, with Israel isolated with its back to the sea, and the Arabs alaughter families and blow up buses, you turn your wrath against Moshe Katzav. What do I know about him? Not a lot, so I'm not defending him. But the little I know about him and his "victims" leads me to believe that the court, the media, the feminists, and other loud sectors of the population committed a great injustice. That the guy was a Don Juan, absolutely true. That there were LONG CONSENSUAL INAPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIPS, there is no doubt about it. That one of those relationships turned sour and the woman tried to BLACKMAIL him, is also clear, although the court and the media have pushed that "detail" aside. Was rape committed? I don't think so. NOW, PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION: If in your estimation Katzav is guilty of rape and deserves years in jail, how many more years in the slammer would you give to politicians who have actually raped Israel, if you know what I mean?
9. One problem, Mr. Yair Lapid
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (03.23.11)
Katzav's lawyers, all great legal minds, believe that the conviction was wrong and that Katzav is innocent of rape. Before you dismiss this, please answer: why was the trial secret? The only rational answer is that they did not want the public to see that there was no evidence.
10. Katsav is probably innocent
Ken Besig ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
The Leftist media, the Leftist judicial system, and the Leftist women's groups managed to get an innocent man convicted. The court simply refused to believe anything Katsav said, and said plainly that even without a shred of concrete evidence, and even with the supposed victims routinely contradicting themselves, they would convict Katsav anyhow. The justice of Sodom and Gomorrah is the best way to describe the way the Israeli legal system crucified Moshe Katsav.
11. A justice system so bad only an Israeli could defend it.
sk ,   USA   (03.23.11)
I have neither affection nor respect for Katsav, but Israel's "justice system" looks a lot more like a set of warring crime families.
12. Worst Katzav crime?
Realist   (03.23.11)
He is not askenazi leftist. So, he is guilt undoubtedly
13. Katsav deserves an appeal & a fair trial.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
Women employed in Katsav's office told the media that it was common knowledge Katsav was carrying on a perfectly consensual affair with the plaintiff. Why wasn't this given more weight in Katsav's trial? Even before the trial, radical feminists and leftists were baying for Katsav's blood. A guilty verdict was always in the works. Was this justice or a legal lynching? Katsav deserves an appeal and a fair trial.
14. Conviction should occur when the accused is PROVEN guilty!
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.23.11)
I'm not a lover of Moshe Katsav. But, remember the phrase, " Beyond the shadow of a doubt"? If guilt was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt why are such outstanding lawyers such as Chaim Misgav and Yoram Sheftel disgusted by the verdict and the way the trial was handled?! Behind CLOSED DOORS?! In a democratic society? Why did the woman who worked in Katzav's office say adamantly that he is NOT a rapist?! Why did the court not consider the contradictions of the complainants? Reminds me of the way the Shamgar commision dealt with the Rabin investigation-EVERYONE knows that there were more questions than answers left. What a sham of a judicial system!
15. "Iranian" Jews giving Iranians a bad name as usual
IRAN#1   (03.23.11)
I wonder what that "Iranian" Jew in LA thinks about this LOL!!!!
16. He is innocent
strong man ,   Jerusalem   (03.23.11)
What can he do? if peotiful girls almost naked!!! and keep dancing or arrowsing him!!! if you see food and you are hangry, What do you do?
17. Katsav is innocent!
Moshe ,   Israel.   (03.23.11)
It takes two too Tango . Was the women tied up.? Why did she continue to work there? Why didn't she go straight to the please afterwards? WHY WAS SHE BLACK MAILING HIM FOR MONEY???
18. Public not allowed to check on witness=stalin trial
sam ,   USA   (03.23.11)
19. #5, there were 3 women, not just 'a woman'
(03.23.11)
20. #1 I beg to differ with you - this one is a rapist!
Maidale's Dad ,   Israel   (03.23.11)
True Israeli politicians are all known for the well developed sexual appetite. But all Israeli politians except this one know that when you ask Maidale if she's interested and Maidale says "no" then you move on to the next Maidale you don't rape her! This man was out of line and it is good that he has been punished!
21. Yr biting more than u can chew Mr Lapid!
Ram ,   London   (03.23.11)
Jumping on the bandwagon when it's clear there is no concrete evidence against Katsav is something that will not go well on your CV in the near future. Katzav was a first class philanderer but never a rapist. How can you commit multiple rape on a woman that is not held prisoner? See if you have a response to this question and ask yourself: why did the victims not report the "supposed" first rape? Good luck Mr Lapid. I have no doubt will need it on this blunder.
22. TALKBACKERS: You have made my day!
Israeli 2   (03.23.11)
Thank you to each one of you who seek true justice in Israel. Baruch Hashem there still exist good, honest people like you. Now we need to find a way to get him acquitted.
23. Why was the trial secret? The public demands to know.
Sochen Chashai   (03.23.11)
24. The court should put Yair Lapid on trial behind closed doors
Sochen Chashai   (03.23.11)
Put Yair Lapid on trial behind closed doors and then see what he has to say on this matter.
25. He should have gotten the biggest
Manuel ,   Buenos Aires, Argent   (03.24.11)
His behaviour was even worse that a simple serial rapis. He abused power, these guy was sick, sadist and overall coward. Brave for Israel teaching a lesson of morality to the world
26. too many articles about "we are all the same"...blah...
eporue ,   europe   (03.24.11)
you all must have much doubt, that you aint ? i can understand that. i would feel the same in your place. there is something seriously wrong with your justice system. and that is, what you all worries so much... you are brainwashed. you are always brought (back) on line... i suggest, you please see, what they are doing with you... katzav now was the sacrifice, to bring you back on line... "there is justice"... "we are all the same"... you are not all the same... your leaders are like the dictators around you, they just cover themselves up better - and brainwash you in a quite "sophisticated" way... have to read up now on the jerusalem bomb blast... you are all back on line ? was the condemnation of the fogel murder as a terrorist attack not really swallowed...? before anyone gets on their feet, before the public mind changes (in disadvantage for your rotten leaders), something will happen, what makes you shutting up... you are the most oppressed people in the middle east: by sort of psychological control...
27. No, #23, not "the public". Only a few
mea   (03.24.11)
screwball men who still think are raped because they "ask for it". These are the tiny, tiny, tiny group of local men who feel ashamed by their association with Katsav's community and so must believe it has all been a conspiracy and/or a misperception of cultural minutia. Listen, the man didn't have enough evidence to get himself off a rape accusation and he was a president and the accusation gigantic. Do the math. You see, for most men, an accusation of rape would be nothing less than purposterous and easily dismissed. This is because they are innocent. Think about that, will you?
28. #21, Ram. You ask a good question: "How you
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (03.24.11)
commit multiple rape on a woman that is not held prisoner".
29. Now I'm Scared and That's What They Wanted to Achieve
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (03.24.11)
B"H - Yes, now I'm scared. I do have the experience of having had lies spread about me. So, if some one, anyone, can be destroyed and convicted for a seven years jail term on the basis of only one witness, probably a liar, than I'm scared. But that's what they wanted to achieve, didn't they, hard core, Israeli secular Peresite Jew haters?
30. Time to put low life katsav in jail and throw away the key
avi ,   israel   (03.24.11)
