31. Thanks to BGU academics for bashing Israel
Eran ,   Singapore   (03.24.11)
You deserve it.
32. Johannesburg university?
Reuven ,   Israel   (03.24.11)
I come from there - never heard of it! Take ONE guess who are the big losers. You've got it!
33. University of Johannesburg
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.24.11)
Didn't exist in 1987. It was formed in 2005. Has a whole 10,000 students. Not much of a loss.
34. cut backs now necessary. cut professors, head of university.
ralph   (03.24.11)
what a great opportunity! whoops i mean so sad..what can be done? use this great opportunity for all its worth. we are not often granted such opportunities.
35. Good riddance
(03.24.11)
UJ cannot dictate to BGU how they should conduct their academic research, who the hell do they think they are.
36. No money folks!
David M.   (03.24.11)
Good time to fire Nave Gordon and some other professors and let them teach at the University of Johannesburg. They are the reason the university has lost many friends and supporters, but obviously hasn't made any new ones.
37. To all the talkback people who does not know the history
Rayan ,   US   (03.24.11)
To all the talkback people who does not know the history...SA was the only friend of Israel during apartheid time when also Israel was isolated in the world.....!!!! so its quite natural that they will tie in academics sphere in later time also...and remember BGU is also academically not a first grade university ..like JU in SA. Israel has only two place which are good and known internationally ....one is Weizmann Institute and other is Hebrew University Of Jerusalem...others places are merely good undergraduate school...be it Technion or TAU.
38. Let them drink .....
Nathan ,   Raanana,Israel   (03.24.11)
If they don't have decent water, let them drink sh.t
39. BGU is the most liberal tolerant institution in Israel
david ,   uk/rsa   (03.24.11)
if not the middle east. WTH??!!
40. Cry The Beloved Country
Mark ,   South Africa   (03.24.11)
Besides the fact that many members of the South African government who were involved in the liberation struggle, support the so called Palestinian liberation Aka terrorist movements. Most of the upper echelon seats in South African Unniversities belong to Muslims. Need I say more, except question whether Muslims loyalty lies in South Africa & its people or "else where".
41. Rayan #37
Shai ,   Cleveland   (03.24.11)
Rayan, Even though this is not the topic of this discussion, as a Technion alumni I have to respond to the ignorant comments of Rayan, insulting the Technion. Only three Israeli scientists have received noble prizes (in chemistry) and two of them are from the Technion. The "israeli silicon valley", second to none in research and development in high tech area was created mostly by graduates of the Technion.
42. #13...
Dana Rothschild ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.24.11)
dear Salma... thought about it, that BG University could'nt find a palestinian University with enough high level to cooperate with?
43. Like South Africans can speak morals to anybody else ..
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (03.24.11)
indded. Let them cut all ties if they want to - it will be South Africa that suffers for this not Israel. They are all FOOLS! South Africa is the aids capital of the world and Israelis will no doubt be the ones who find that cure .... BIG LOVE TO ISRAEL FOREVER!
44. To Shai #41
Ryan ,   US   (03.24.11)
Shai I agree with you regarding Technion`s contribution...and I have no intention to insult Technion anyway...but remember it is mainly a Engg institute tailored for undergraduate learning and applied research....not a University or research Institution for academic higher learning and research on basic science and core subjects. Although its true that Prof. Hershko and Prof. Ciechanover did work on basic science ..but this is an rare example. Also building high-tech Industries increase your capabilities in technology, not the understanding in fundamental and basic science. ..so what you invent or discover be it in ELOP or IAF or RAFAEL it is just fine-tuning and application of the basic facts in optics, mechanics or aerodynamics, electronics that was already known and done for last centuries ...its same way what Japanese does..they have very poor basic science progress ..but in technology they excel. I think Weizmann and HUJI work mainly on fundamental Basic Science. TAU was also used to be a good place but now crippled due to its financial problems and ineffective administration.
45. Serves BGU right
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.25.11)
Given their mandated attacks and defamation of our brave soldiers, it is amusing to see one racist left wing Anti-Jew university attacking another
46. Interesting cultures
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.25.11)
JU representative of a people who overwhelmingly support rape and pedophilia - in fact JU conducted the poll that revealed that - and BGU representative of a faculty devoted to the destruction of the very State that pays its bills. They truly deserve each other
47. Comparitive Education
An American Patriot ,   San Antonio, TX   (03.25.11)
Coming from a country that openly supports Mugabe as he tries to exterminate anyone that opposes him
48. Brenda Sterns Own Goal
Patrick Donnelly ,   South Africa   (03.28.11)
Brenda Stern really made sure that the boycott of Ben Gurion Uni willl be enforeced and popular. Her display of unbridled apartheid level propoganda on SAFM this morning was sickening and a significant own goal. She is a shocking propogandist and illogical speaker who will only make sure democrats see through her abusive and silly outrage. Who hired her? They should fire her
