Clinton says Assad is a reformer, then asks him to allow for reforms? And...did she just say it was not palatable that Syrians are dying...but as long as Assad "only" shoots citizens and doesn't bring out his jets-he's safe? Is Washington using an Eight Ball to determine their policies these days?
2. Ah, so it's true: she is from another planet.
Bernie ,   Erehwon, USA   (03.27.11)
3. A reformer?
Steve (not steve) ,   USA   (03.27.11)
President Bush correctly labeled Syria a 'state sponsor of terror'. In other words for Obama, this means a friend and partner! This world would be a better place without a Syria. The protesters are no friend to Israel as is the 'regime'. No use for either. Never give back he Golan!
4. She is lying
David ,   On this planet   (03.27.11)
Who are the Members of Congress of both parties. Maybe just Obama
5. Let's be honest
Rachel ,   US   (03.27.11)
There is no way Russia would allow Syria to be attacked. Syria is their baby, they would probably join forces with the Syrians. Now wouldn't that be a mess?
6. In other words...
Ehoop ,   UK   (03.27.11)
Hillary says let's give Assad some more rope so that he can hang more of his people. After all, the great State Department can't be wrong. Assad is a great reformer and medical pioneer whose only wish is peace at all costs (Israeli costs, that is). Any political connection to Iran is just unfortunate, as is his support for the Hezbollah, what shall we call them, oh yes, pacifists. And any family connection to the hated Hafez el-Assad isn't true, either, just ask his mama.
7. Syria doesn't have oil - Lybia does.. That's all.

8. hitlery clinton has more brains in her head
jason white ,   afula, israel   (03.27.11)
than most people have in their pinkies. What she should have said was all arabs are created equal, but some are more equal than others. So no one will both syria and forget about all the i.e.d.s and terrorists they sent to kill U.S. soldiers in iraq.No one cares that hizbollah and the iranians are helping to put down the anti government protests in syria. No one did anything to ass-ad's father when he gassed 30,000 people in homa in 1982. I do not know what would have been worse hitlery becoming POTUS or the jihadist in the Oval Office now?
9. The crap about Assad
Brod ,   USA   (03.27.11)
Calling Assad-Syrian Tyrant, whose father's government butchered 20,000 of their own people in Hama, Syria in the 1980s, is idiocy.
10. Mrs. Clinton/Obama
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (03.27.11)
If anybody needed further proof of the cheap moral level of the present US administration, you have it here! And Barak and Bibi expect us to obey in silence what comes from this witch????
11. Assad a REFORMER?

13. #5, Rachel: this isn't the '80's
EZ ,   US   (03.27.11)
Syria is hardly Russias "baby". Yes, they are an "interest" but this interest is far smaller than the Russians engaging in a military operation against a foe ten times more powerful. Yes Russia has nukes but they no linger possess the military capabilities they once had and aren't interested in it: they've become a solid member of the international economic forces which they benefit from far more than their cold war relics like Syria. If the UN allowed NATO to attack Syria, there wouldn't be a damn thing Russia could or would do. And in the end: they're not insane: the only two times we came down to seconds in deciding to launch a nuclear war between Russia and the US: BOTH times it was the Russians who backed down, not the US. The situation is now even worse for the Russians with their expired fuel in their nukes, thousands of unmanned posts and their super sluggish response time while Americans could strike all of Russia in a few minutes. Russias generals are fully aware of US capabilities and admit they are at least 5 decades more advanced. Your point does not reflect the reality. Aside from having become much better friends with the US than we see on the surface: not a single American or Russian would want war with each other....we're WAY past that. Even with China it's the same. Syria could potentially fall into a reform role but it's a long shot. The issue is clear: Syria has less interest to the worlds stability than Syria does: they're two entirely different worlds and NO ONE in Syria should expect us to fight the battles they instigated as part of a domino effect. NO ONE saw it coming to Syria.
14. what ???!!!!!!!!
fad egypt   (03.27.11)
reformer ??!!! it is a normal thing to that BS from mrs clinton as she is a member of the worst us adminstration of hussein obama the administration which blackmailed by the MB in egypt after betraying its ally mubarek and blackmailed by the gulf states especially bahrain for refusing to appease the iranian supported protesters and which is helping the radical rebels in libya and of course the adminstration which sold israel under the train shame on the us of they want el assad to remain as a president of syria as they hope that john kerry will force netanyahu to give up the golan to appease him so the revolution will be ended there
15. She will eat those words.....
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (03.27.11)
The bottom line is the people of Syria just like in Egypt will determine whether he stays or goes. He can be a reformer but it is too late. No matter what he does his power base will never be the same and when you are a dictator its either all or nothing. Like the songs says
16. CORRECTION #9
Brod ,   USA   (03.27.11)

21. Clinton didn't defend Mubarak the way she does Assad
zionist forever   (03.27.11)
" There is a different leader in Syria now, many members of the Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he's a reformer " Assad is not and never has been serious about peacemaking . The man himself personally said that in exchange for the Golan he would not offer a full peace with increased trade & exchange of ambassadors. What he offered as a kind of long term ceasefire. The only member of Congress who likes going to Syria and coming back praising Assad is John Kerry. All Assad needs to do is say I want peace and Kerry goes rushing home announcing Assad wants peace. As for Clinton she seems to be defending Assad who is an enemy of America. When Mubarak who had been a US ally for thirty years her line was Mr Mubarak you must listen to the will of the people and resign. Assad is being even more violent with the Syrians than Mubarak was and Clinton isn't calling for Assad to leave instead she is defending him saying he is a reformer just ask members of Congress. The Obama regime regrets going into Libya already but the Arab League demanded he establish a no fly zone so without consulting Congress he decided ok the Arab League has spoken I must obey. I very much doubt the American people would accept it if Obama decided he wanted a no fly zone in Syria. He also wouldn't get the support because he wants to try and pretend the US isn't involved by using the banner of NATO and letting France lead the coalition. The Europeans don't mind going into Libya as long as they don't send in ground troops because Syria exports very little oil these days whilst Europe buys alot of Libyan oil. France of course there is the added reason that Nicholas Sarkozy wants to boost his image at home and he thinks if France is leading an international coalition to oust Gaddafi he can claim all the praise it won't go to those damn Americans.
22. Green Light for Israel
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (03.27.11)
Looks like the US and Clinton have no objection to Israel going in and replacing the Assad government. You won't get any conflict with the US since the US is busy.
23. Clinton says
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (03.27.11)
"each of these situations is different", and it has nothing to do with human rights. Gaddafi is hated by the Saudis but Assad is allied with Turkey and Iran, and the powerful Hezbolla and Hamas organizations. Syria has 22 million people, Libya less than 7 million. Syria has no natural resources, Libya has lots of high-quality oil. Obama could pay-off Putin to allow an illegal attack on Libya, but it is unlikely that Putin will agree to any more American expansion.
24. IDIOT Obama! Opportunity to take down Assad
jake ,   Canada   (03.27.11)
What an idiot ! This is the perfect opportunity for the people to rise up, be attacked by Assad, then supported by the West. Finish with the Iranian/Syrian/Hezbolla alliance once and for all !!!

26. Syria is a major candidate for U.S. Arms
Akiva ,   Maaleh Adumim   (03.27.11)
Libya is not, that is the difference.
27. #24 "People" rising up are worse than Assad
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (03.27.11)
In Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East, the "protesters" belong to the Muslim Brotherhood and other jihadi groups and are pro-Iran. Obama isn't going to "take down Assad" because he is already a member of the anti-Israel "axis of evil" with Iran. Obama hounded Mubarak out of office to destroy the Israel-Egypt peace treaty. His MB friends are gaining power and Egypt will soon be a new member of the "axis."
28. HE IS A REFORMER!!!!
