31. HILLERY IS A BIG FAN OF COMEDY!!
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (03.28.11)
I had no idea. What is a reformer anyway? Assad wears ties in meetings. Deos that mean reform? Gadafi could have gotten away if he changed his wordrobe, I guess.
32. Anotherwords.....you don't have any oil...
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (03.28.11)
so we don't give a damn about your dead civilians. Dead Civilians, is a CIA propaganda tool, letting the United States have some idiotic excuse to invade another third world country. When Assad has a OPEC emblem tatooed across his forehead....that will be the day the Drones start bombing his residence.
33. Assad can't be a reformer
Joe ,   Canada   (03.28.11)
Assad is the leader of a minority clan of Allawhites holding under their grip a majority made up of Sunnis using dictatorial powers (emergency law since 1963) , nepotism, corruption & violence. Such a regime by definition cannot make any compromise leaving even the appearence of weakness without endangering its hold on power. The individuals in the Baath party who selected Bashir Assad to follow into the steps of his father are not the kind who would let him make deals which would robb them of their priviledges. They would soon find a tougher puppet to replace him if they found him unworthy of his father the butcher of Hama. And Iran as well as all the terrorist groups headquartered in Syria are not likely to remain quiet if they feel the unlikely change Damascus is going to be detrimental to their objectives.
34. #22 Mark of Lewiston - you are absolutely RIGHT !
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (03.28.11)
One possible REASON is that the US does NOT want to get its hands soiled. So it prefers SOMEONE else in the ME - aka Israel - to do the DIRTY JOB for the US. When this happens, it will AUTOMATICALLY trigger people like YOU to SQUAWK loudly at Israel.
35. #27, more pro-Iran than Hizbollah?
Danny   (03.28.11)
or the current regime?
36. Libya and Syria different
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif. USA   (03.28.11)
Hillary Clinton says the US won't intervene in Syria, as it did in Libya, because they are different. Libya is run by a dictator, and Syria is run by a dictator. Libya kills its citizens if they protest, and Syria kills its citizens if they protest. But, the name of the Libyan leader is Gadaffi, and the name of the Syrian leader is Assad. The difference is clear,, isn't it?
37. The "march of death" continues in Syria, but...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.28.11)
...naive, inexperienced and ignorant Obama/Clinton team still don't know how to handle matters. (But no doubt, they will put pressure on us, Jews, for building 20 apartments for needy people in our capital city of Jerusalem, DC (Jerusalem, David's City).
38. Oh come on!!! no OIL no attack
(03.28.11)
It's a plain as daylight.
39. 34 Au Contraire, CK
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (03.28.11)
Either you could show the US how its done or you would discover what over-extension actually is. Then you could demonstrate to the US the right way to extract yourselves. You Israelis are always positive the US is doing it wrong, can never do anything in the Middle East right. So you could demonstrate the right way or learn some humility.
40. Syria Clinton clap trap
Ronnie ,   Australia   (03.28.11)
What no oil !
41. Actually she means Assad a "Deformer"!
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (03.28.11)
42. Posters pretending
Carla ,   NYC   (03.28.11)
they give a crap about Syrians... you folks are too funny. A bit upset we won't get rid of a ruler you don't like? Fact: Most Syrians are happy with Assad. If he reforms, so much the better. He is staying.
43. "Congressmen believe Assad is a reformer "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.28.11)
Syrian front is quiet, and Hezbollah is well controlled by the Syrian regime, Syria and Iran both play dirty role in Iraq and Palestine.......Bashar al-Assad is a dictator, ha, who cares? Assad is indeed a reformer in congressmen eyes .
44. #42 we don't care
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (03.28.11)
Israelis couldn't care less about Assad. He is a bitter foe who tried to develop nuclear weapons. He occupies Lebanon, and helps both Hamas and Hezbolla. If we believed there would be real reform that would return Lebanon to the Christians and free Kurdistan, we would support it, but we all know that the Saudi masters of Clinton and Obama will never allow it. So we are all here just mocking these two for illegally attacking Gaddafi under the pretense of human rights when all they are doing is stealing oil from the Libyan people.
45. To #13 EZ
Rachel ,   US   (03.28.11)
What do you mean there isn't anything Russia could do about a UN attack on Syria. THEY HAVE A VETO!! And they would use it. Syria is their doorway into the Arab world. They would not let Syria be attacked like Libya. Count on that.
46. Difference is Assad has a nasty sting
Allon   (03.28.11)
Syria is the biggest manufacturer of chemical weapons worldwide and possesses formidable missiles such as the Iskander. It has a really modern and disciplined army as well as deep links to international terror organisations. USA would love to attack as would Israel but both would think more than twice as to the necessity of such an operation.
47. Progress is being made.
Ernest ,   Egypt   (03.28.11)
People in Syria have expressed their discontent with aspects of the government and President Assad has heard them. The government of Syria has commented on a number of reforms to address the grievances of the protesters. These protests may only have surfaced in this region first and to be able to find a system that is able to take the issues into account and resolve them decently could be a model. It's believable that these people are capable of doing great things and this is a challenge that they can overcome. Best wishes to Syria to get everything worked out fine.
48. #35 Iran is more pro-Iran than Assad
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (03.29.11)
What's better for Iran? To have a good ally like Assad in Syria or to get rid of him and install their own people? Assad is pro-Iranian, but he is pro-Assad first. I believe we are witnessing the Rise of the Iranian "Reich." The Iranians are releasing a film throughout the ME, "The Coming is Upon Us - Israel Shall be Destroyed" (ATimeToBetray.com or see headline at Drudge) to convince Muslims that their messiah, the 12th Imam is on his way - in order to instigate more uprisings. Ahmadinejad is a follower of this 12th Imam cult - a real fanatic. He must be taken down before he becomes the new ME "fuhrer."
