They are a minority in the Middle East divided among 4 countries and caught between a rack and a hard place. Their survival depends on being able to politically and smartly maneuver among the various conflicts and various interests in the region. Generally speaking they are loyal to the country they reside in but in the case of the Golan Heights they cannot be sure what the future will bring, therefore the double speak. Israel has betrayed the Kurds in 1975, the Christian Lebanese in 1982, its allies in South Lebanon in 2000 and the collaborators in Gaza in 2005. Sure Israel had important strategic reasons for what it did in each case but seeing this done by Israel from their point of view they are right to view with suspicion anything said by Israeli government regarding their fate.
