1. Here's an idea...
Yael ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.05.11)
Maybe instead of sending buses to Europe they should increase the number of buses here in JERUSALEM (where people are crowded on buses like cattle). There's an idea of where they can invest their multi million dollar deal!
2. and in Israel?
Nadav ,   tlv israel   (04.05.11)
Egged continues to pollute the environment, together with Dan Bus Lines. Why don't they follow in the footsteps of NY and other cities and introduce hybrids or electric buses?
3. maybe do better service first here?
David Rubli ,   Kohav Ya'akov   (04.05.11)
What about: - being on time - not driving of the station to early - live updates about late buses - functioning information boards and so on . . .
4. Cool
Daniel ,   Netherlands   (04.05.11)
And you know what they say: where tracks of the egged bus stops, that's where the border is drawn. Eh...
5. Those poor Dutch people
ralph ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.05.11)
6. Egged
Moshe R   (04.06.11)
Egged happens to be a terrific service. Extremely punctual and professional. Very cheap and high frequency, making travel in israel not a burden and therefore a habit! Perhaps Jerusalem's service could be improved but elsewhere in Israel Petach Tikvah, intercity, etc, where the streets are half way normal the bus service is really something to be proud of. I am greatful to Egged.
7. Antisemitism in Amsterdam
SarahRachel ,   Los Angeles   (04.05.11)
I think this was a very foolish move on the part of the Israeli bus company Egged. Antisemitism is so strong in Amsterdam that I'm afraid these busses will turn out to be targets for those who want to see all Jews dead and Israel wiped off the map. According to recent articles in Ynet and IsraelNationalNews and elsewhere, antisemitism is socially acceptable in Amsterdam and all of Holland once again. According to these same articles, 60% of Jews in Holland are ready to leave there for fear of their lives and that of their children. I hope that it doesnt happen, but I cant help worrying that Egged busses will become a target. And of course if it happens, it will be mostly non-Jews who are murdered, And, of course that will spur on even MORE Jew-hatred in Amsterdam with grave consequences for any Jews remaining. Israeli Egged busses in Amsterdam is a very, very bad and foolish idea.
8. improvements in israel
daniel ,   israel   (04.06.11)
maybe they can use the revenue from this to improve transportation in this country? egged isn't that bad, actually, but they could lobby for a more efficient system that also contains proper information like ROUTE maps etc.
9. Jews welcome in Amsterdam
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (04.06.11)
Having lived in the US, and in the Netherlands, antisemitism is no more prevalent in Amsterdam, than anywhere else. You can walk in NY, LA or any major US city, and find hatred. During my years in Amsterdam, I lived openly as a Jew, my door had a mezuzah and I belonged to a lovely Shul. I never felt threatened, nor did I ever receive any antisemitic comments. I think this is a great investment for Egged and Israel. Jews are not just in Israel. We are everywhere, and we can and will compete worldwide for contracts, such as this. Israel is not a ghetto, and Israeli's are not ghetto dwellers! Our Jewish history in the Netherlands is long standing, and it continues.
10. Do we get to shout "rega, rega!"?
Mike Bing ,   Heiloo, Netherlands   (04.06.11)
Way cool, this news, although it will probably not bring the British Leyland buses of the seventies with their nice thick carpet of garinim to Amsterdam!
11. #7
Amsterdammer ,   Amsterdam,Netherlans   (04.06.11)
what a nonesens your'e talking... i don't know where you get these numbers from, but i'm not affraid here in holland. besides that, antisemitism is not, and i repeat, antisemitism is not socially acceptable here in Holland..
12. #7 on the contrary...now they may learn something over there
Sima ,   Israel   (04.06.11)
It is an excellent idea...we make money and if there are (G-d from Heaven should forbid it) any terrorist attacks because the bus company is Israeli then the Dutch will learn what we (unfortunately) already know: and what we know is this: there are those Moslems (not all, but some) who hate us so very much that they will not be stopped by the laws of G-d and they go out and kill us simply because we are Jews!
13. To # 9 and # 11 Here are the sources
SarahRachel ,   Los Angeles   (04.06.11)
Im not talking nonsense, Im quoting articles that appeared recently here at Ynet and also 2 articles at IsraelNationalNews. Here are the links: Israel National News article: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/141230 "Prominent Jews Leave Amsterdam over Anti-Semitism" In this article are quotes from Dutch officials themselves, and a Dutch Rabbi. But please read the entire article as well: "Just days earlier, Dutch politician Frits Bolkestein stated that religious Jews have no future in the Netherlands due to anti-Semitism. They should “emigrate to the U.S. or Israel,” he said. His comments were published in the book “The Decay: Jews in a Rudderless Netherlands” by Manfred Gerstenfeld. The main cause of increasing hostility to Jews is “anti-Semitism among Dutchmen of Moroccan descent, whose numbers keep growing,” Bolkestein stated. He expressed doubt that the government is capable of fighting anti-Semitism and protecting its Jewish citizens." His controversial remarks were met with an uproar. The Dutch Parliament held a special session to discuss the issue. Earlier in the year Dutch Chief Rabbi Benjamin Jacobs spoke to Arutz Sheva and expressed concern over Dutch anti-Semitism, which he said is becoming prevalent. He said that many Dutch citizens are upset by anti-Semitism, but concluded, “As the situation is today, the future for Dutch Jewry is moving to Israel.” ========= And another from Israel National News: "Jews Must Flee Holland in 2011" http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/9914 From this article, please do read the entire article at the link, it gives details of the antisemetic acts that have been occurring there. Here are more quotes: "Dutch journalist, Paul Andersson Toussaint: "Antisemitism in Holland is again salonfähig”. This word means socially acceptable. Sixty percent of Dutch Jews are ready to pack up and leave the country. The cause is a boom of Islamic antisemitism in the famous multicultural Netherlands. ======================= And the Ynet article: "Jew hatred in Holland" http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4027880,00.html "The Dutch government continues to refuse to pay for the security of its threatened Jewish citizens. The Jewish community has stated on various occasions that it is the only group in society which cannot organize activities without including guards or other security measures." Again, please do read the entire article. If either talkback #9 or #11 is unaware of the conditions in Amsterdam and across Holland, perhaps these articles will provide them with some education. It looks very serious, and it does no good for any Jews to hide their heads in the sand about what's going on. Don't be in denial, that's the worst thing any Jew could do, wasn't this lesson learned 70 years ago?
14. To #12
SarahRachel ,   Los Angeles   (04.06.11)
Sima, the Dutch already are well aware that the Muslims hate us so very much that they will kill us simply because we are Jews. Please, read the articles I linked in a previous post to talkbackers #9 and #11, and you will see that not only do the Dutch know about it, they refuse to provide protection for the Jews there. When the Dutch themselves are antisemetic, what kind of a reaction are you expecting from them when they see a Muslim terrorist act against Jews there?? The reaction that the Jews are getting is silence from the Dutch authorities, refusal to help them, and being told that by Dutch officials that Jews have no future in Holland and need to leave. Which is no doubt true.
15. Good job it's a franchise
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (04.06.11)
Can you imagine those slobbish chauvenistic drivers providing service in a civilized country? The mind boggles.
16. # 7 paranoia
peter ,   A'dam NL   (04.06.11)
Maybe it would help if you actually read more than the articles of mr. Manfred Gerstenfeld or mr. Ben Zion Evers about A'dam & Holland in Ynet. I wouldn't think of having an opinion on L.A. on such a small basis. Nobody here knows who owns the busses to Purmerend, Hoorn, Volendam, Edam and Wormerveer(a very small license anyway) whether Conexxion, Arriva or Egged manages them. Do you think they have a Magen David on their flanks? The Dutch drivers will be the same as before too. Contain your paranoia and get informed better, please.
17. whiners who have never taken the bus
mea   (04.06.11)
I don't believe anybody talkbacking that they dislike the service in Israel. First of all, it is clean and on time, not crowded except for peak times (like all buses) and it is CHEAP-five and a half shekels! Come on, they use Mercedes buses. The schedule routes are on their website. Egged does a good job. I traveled all over Israel on Egged when I first went there and it was safe, easy and cheap.

amsterdammer ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (04.06.11)
i know this already, besides that...i live in holland....but, you should make a difference between the things you see, hear, smell, read..... and the reality from your'e own experiance....that's what is important....and 70 years ago it was a different sitiuation. i might be that the muslims hate the jews, but there is nog muslim in power here in holland.....in contrary....there is somebody in power called geert wilders, who want's the muslims to get out......it is a huge difference
19. Re: 7
Jonathan ,   Tel Aviv   (04.06.11)
Dont be so negative, negativism creates all these problems in the first place, its a great deal. I do agree with the first few people that commented here, what about the Israeli lines?
20. to Peter and SarahRachel
Yaron ,   Tel Aviv   (04.06.11)
It is certainly not true that all Muslims hate Jews, but only a few. Yet a few are enough to be a serious threat. Walking around as a recognizable Jew in Amsterdam is not a smart thing to do. Synagoges are protected. This does not only happen there, but all over the western world. It seriously limits the freedom of Jews which is a very bad thing. What concerns me more is that hatred has become a common thing in Holland: among politics but also between cultural groups. It has become normal to accuse one another in the street, on tv and on the internet. Prejudices and bigotry are ventilated freely. The sense of relativity and truth have been lost completely. These are not incidents. About a fifth of the voters supports a party that spreads hatred about Muslims but also wants to ban Jewish ritual slaughter, which raised the anger of the Jewish community. In there electioncampaign they spread blatand lies. Criticizing this practice is not accepted. This party and its supporters have poisened the country and killed its open and liberal character: one of the main reasons I don't want to live there anymore.
21. #14 If "The Dutch" are so antisemitic
(04.06.11)
then why would they even do business with an Israeli company in the first place? Why would they allow an Israeli company supply their bus services? Your source is Ynet. You think Ynet is completely reliable about the internal affairs in the Netherlands? You think there are no people in Los Angeles that don't like Jews?
22. Egged Bus Drivers
Susya Bar Dror ,   IL   (04.06.11)
In Israel the most ruthless and dangerous drivers are truck and bus drivers. Amog them many from Egged. Good luck, dutch road users!
23. @#14 as I student I can choose my own teachers....
Sima ,   Israel   (04.06.11)
I choose not to choose you! Therefore there is no need for me to read the links you have sent. I take this opportunity to wish you a lovely day
24. Boycott
n ch ,   netherlands   (04.07.11)
then I will boycott those buses.
25. Message to Egged and their bus drivers.
Irene Swartz ,   Ramat Beit Shemesh,   (04.07.11)
I have been living in Ramat Beit Shemesh for 11 years. Throughout this time I have taken the bus everyday into Jerusalem as well as a bus in Jerusalem to get to my office. In the evening it is a reverse procedure. Yes, the busses are crowded since I take the bus at peak hour and yes the busses are late at times BUT only because of traffic, no tardiness on the drivers' part. I can only praise the Egged drivers who have to put up with rudeness from some passengers. I have always had excellent, friendly, courteous service from the bus drivers, and especially the 417 drivers, to the extent that when I had a problem walking (I needed hip replacement) the drivers would wait for me. Sometimes if I was still on the way would stop to pick me up, which is against the Law and carries a hefty fine of approximately $300 if caught. Sometimes they would go round the circle so as to give me time to get to the corner so that I can get the bus. A message to passengers on all bus lines all over the world - please be aware the bus driver is also human. Saying "Good morning or afternoon. How are you?" when you get on the bus and "Thank you. Have a good day/evening" when you get off does not cost you anything but means so much to the driver. To Egged and all their bus drivers a heartfelt thank you for your excellent service.
26. Being an Egged driver is a much-desired job in Israel
Tahl   (04.07.11)
They are very well paid, and enjoy great social benefits and a great job security, due to their very strong union. I can see some of them asking to be moved to Amsterdam now. ;)
27. Will the buses run on Shabbat?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.07.11)
Maybe they will operate Mahedrin buses in the Jewish areas of Amsterdam.
28. #7
Frank Tromp ,   Amsterdam NL   (04.07.11)
This is pure nonsense. Ofcourse there is antisemitism in Amsterdam as everwhere else. But do not call critics on the Israeli policy in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian territories antisemitism. This is something different. It is so easy for a country to get hated because of its policy.
29. Egged, the bus system where you can
Edithann ,   USA   (04.08.11)
observe quaint Israeli cultural customs.....The Egged Israeli Company allows women passengers to be spit on over seat discrepancies with men.. and also allows them to be beaten physically if a religious male wants the seat...No questions asked..just report it to the main office or to the UN... BDS, BDS, BDS... tata BDS, BDS, BDS... tata
