31. I am not surprised...
Marco ,   Spain   (03.31.11)
that Israel will kidnap a civilian overseas to use as a bargaining chip. Israel is and has always acted as the rogue state that is really is...
32. Palestinian Christian why are you not west bank?
(03.31.11)
33. #20 You decide that Israel
Yossef   (03.31.11)
is a battlefield ? Be careful, the day WE decide that Israel is a battlefield, it'll be better for you to stay where you are, las vegas !
34. Marco Spain you mean zionists not jews
Freudian slip   (03.31.11)
35. To # 20
Amram ,   Toronto, Canada   (03.31.11)
If Gilad were 'captured on abattlefield' then he would be a prisonner of war. There are laws concerning the treatments of POWs, one of them being that they must be visited regularly by the International Red Cross
36. Shalit?
Shaul ,   Sheboygan   (03.31.11)
This has nothing to do with Shalit. It has everthing to do with learning where all the boobytraps (in Gaza) have been laid. Everything that the IDF needs to know for a successful invasion or for sabotage has been revealed. "he has given us valuable information" We have arranged for him a good job and a new identity in Detroit.
37. To #4
anonymous ,   Jerusalem   (03.31.11)
And how does the world let Hamas get away with kidnapping Shalit? or Palestinians killing innocent civilians in suicide bombings, or slaughter a family of 5 while they are sleeping, etc. etc. etc. etc . etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.......
38. #27 - what criminal indictments?
William ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
Isn't an indictment essentially a guilty verdict? Please inform me of a guilty VERDICT (not request for court appearance or arrest warrant) against an IDF soldier? I haven't seen one request from the ICJ or INTERPOL for the arrest of an IDF soldier either. Seen plenty for the arrest of Iranian leadership, though. Speaking of London, notice how they chose to change the legislation that led to that arrest because "it was being abused by groups with an agenda". Perhaps someone should inform her that Israel only arrests those who committed a crime or are part of a nation/group at war with the Jewish State. That would explain why countries rise up against Israel until their leaders get the facts, then back down and the matter is never spoken of again.
39. #20 - I can see why from 10,000 miles away
William ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
you can't see the border here. Go read Hamas/PRC announcements of their "triumph" in kidnapping Shalit. They tunneled into Israel, attacked an IDF squad, killed a few soldiers, and kidnapped Shalit back through the tunnel. Hamas seems to get the story straight, why not you?
40. Oh boo hoo #4
Honor ,   New York, NY   (03.31.11)
And how does the world let Hamas get away with the Shalit kidnaping???
41. #20
Misha ,   U.S.   (03.31.11)
Conducting an operation with the sole goal of kidnapping soldiers and holding them hostage or for ransom is a violation of the Geneva Convention. Capturing Shalit is a war crime. The conditions of his captivity are war crimes. But then Hamas commits so many war crimes, what's one or two more.
42. Sis
frank ,   Israel   (03.31.11)
his attorney says he is not involved. That's good enough for me. Why would his attorney lie?
43. Abu Sisi
judith ,   rishon letzion   (03.31.11)
Abu Sisi would not have been 'taken' if Israel wasn't certain that he had relevant information.
44. The end justifies the means
observer ,   Egypt   (03.31.11)
kidnapping civil engineer is legal but capturing army soldier is illegal.
45. #44 "observer"
solomon ,   bklyn   (03.31.11)
I'm not surprised that you don't miss the entire point; you ignore it. Israel withdrew from Gaza. Hamas took over and has vowed to destroy Israel. Israel is responding to actions by Hamas. This has been true from the get-go. They are the bad guys. Trying to stop people from annihilating you, is legal.
46. #45 Trying to stop people from annihilating you is legal
observer ,   Egypt   (03.31.11)
so did Hamas tried and succeeded.
47. #46 "0bserver"
solomon ,   bklyn   (03.31.11)
Again you ignore facts. If Hamas would say they are tired of fighting and put down their arms, what would Israel do? Welcome the peace; otherwise, nothing. But if Israel would say they are tired of fighting and put down their arms, what would Hamas do? They would annihilate Israel. Your myopia is self-inflicted.
48. NON-OBSERVER
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.01.11)
Try and be realistic, just for a change If Abu Sisi had imparted his most innermost secrets to his wife, how would anyone in their right mind think that she would divulge them and admit his complicity with Hamas ?
49. to #4
(04.04.11)
The world has let a lot more nonsense happen from your side...rest well...Israel is not an Arab dictatorship...the government is accountable to the people..many of which are pro Palestinians for humane reasons...do you know many pro Israelis in the Arab world?..this is an act of defense of two people at war....if your friend is indeed clean, Israelis will win his release...make peace, and help stop the nonsense...switch from destruction to prosperity...stop your leaders from waging a losing war...and instill real democracies instead of extremist regimes who will go after your head too..Mr. Christian Arab! War is ugly and cruel, there is no nice side...rise above it and find ways to avert it.
