I am always puzzled by the Israeli 's complaisance towards UK. They don't seem to realize that France is in essence more friendly and understanding wrt Israel that any UK governement will be (Even with guys like Chirac). Even le Monde is less anti Israeli that the Guardian.

MI6 withheld intelligence from Israel simply because it was in their interests to do so. It was well-known that Meir Dagan was insane and presumably considered not fitted to be entrusted with sensitive intelligence by any astute intelligence agency. Most likely they didn't want the cover of undercover agents blown by Dagan's sledgehammer approach to eliminating threats. Do stop taking this all so personally.

The fewer people know a secret (think wikileaks), the less likely it is to be discovered by potential enemies. The comment that the Israelis play by a different set of rules is probably true too. Israel plays by a set of rules based on the need for survival in a rough neighborhood. The Brits play by a set of rules based on the UK's status as a once-great but fading European power that is not the target of nearby genocidal enemies other than the local terrorist sort. The Israelis also play by a set of ethics rules that are far more stringent than any with which the UK government is required to comply. So Dearlove need not sound so "snooty" about Israel's rules. If the British are holding back information that they think will cost Israeli lives, however, that's a pretty serious statement about the deeply untrustworthy nature of the British government and particularly its intelligence agencies.

I'm fairly certain that the CIA withholds intel from Israel, as do other allies of our like the British. Let's not forget a certain Jonathan Pollard who if he had been caught during G.H.W. Bush's presidency would have really landed us in trouble; we were lucky Reagan was president at the time. Also after the Dubai affair it is likely that the Australians and Germans will be withholding a lot of intel from us. This is international politics and this is espionage. The Americans withhold intel from the Brits and the Brits withhold intel from the Americans. There is nothing new here to read

That's patent nonsense. Dagan is widely regarded as perhaps the best Mossad leader *ever*. Even some of Israel's enemies referred to him as Superman for his successes, only a few of which we're aware of. No one lasts eight years in such a post if he's "insane".

Intel supplied by Pollard was passed by Israel to the Soviets resulting in many US agents deaths...just one of the many reasons info is not shared.
