I live in the US and got a text msg from a friend in TA seconds after the "earthquake" but all indications show it to be a tremor not an earthquake. Many tremors are good for relieving stresses and avoiding energy buildup.

i hope that there are no victims and that everybody and everything is okay.

I am not sure there is such thing as a building built in this country that can withstand an earthquake of any considerable magnitude. Lets change building codes stopping this stupid idea of building on stilts rather than having fully enclosed buildings which are stronger. All new builds should be built to a certain standard and buildings and older buildings with a certain number of stories should be strenghened. Dimona & Sorek nuclear reactors must be earthquake proofed. Israel cannot afford a nuclear accident on any scale and both the reactors were built in the 50s so need some serious investment. This country is due a major earthquake sometime soon and we must be ready for it.

I was amazed to learn about the 'quake so close to us in Safed/Nahariya. Here in Karmiel, we didn't feel - or know a thing. As there've been no reported injuries, let's hope there's been little or no damage to property. Funnily enough, at home we looked at today's unusually milky sky and thought we'd be in for a desert storm of sorts - it must have been the quake brewing. Meanwhile, It's been said a hundred times since our aliya 12 months ago that Israel is long overdue for an earthquake and that here in the north, we're directly on the fault line.
