We just got hit in California by the tsunami from japan and it caused a lot of damage especially in harbors. Couldn't ,say a 7.4+ quake in that area cause a tsunami (traveling at 500 mph+) to devastate the entire coastal area and there may be only seconds of warning that your in it's path?. In japan, I've read the surge from it reached 6 miles inland in areas. There isn't any mention of tsunami in the article. Is that because there is no tsunami warning system in place for the region or,given it's speed and proximity to heavily populated areas, it would be pointless to have a warning system?
