1. oh come on now is anyone really surprised at these findings
(04.04.11)
after all? why does anyone think any different about germany? meet the new boos, same as the old boss.....we dont get fooled again
2. "influx of Jews to German"!? Unforgivable.
EZ ,   US   (04.04.11)
How could any Jew move back To that abhorrent place!? What the hell do they think? They've changed!??? Get a clue! My G-d please help these people see more clearly. Unreal! All of Europe is no Place for the Jews. Like the horrible saying goes: the pessimists left...the Optimists stayed (and were massacred). We truly have a level of stubbornness that is fatalistic. G-d save these people from the Germans. Theyre gonna need saving.
3. "A criminal Germany is emerging"
Tomek ,   Poland   (04.04.11)
Really? I have no particularly warm feelings towards Germany but I think Israel could learn a lot from Germans about how to make her policies more peaceful and her society more civil. It is a sign of the author's hubris when he attempts to lecture the German government on how it should mold its citizenry. Clean up your house first before you decide to lecture others.
4. Jew hatred with Germany
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.04.11)
It's systemic, in the blood
5. Actually the Germans are not trusted by
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (04.04.11)
members of the EU. My last company was a French subsidiary and every last one of them was sure if given the opportunity the Germans would be coming over the borders again in conquest. Sigh! Maybe that is just the French? Still seems that all the EU attempts to delegitimatize Israel and I believe this is part of their group guilt over the Holocaust. Instead of admitting & dealing positively with their complicity they seek to blame the victim.
6. Ask them real questions like:
k ,   US   (04.04.11)
Do you wish Hitler succeeded in killing all the Jews and allow them to be open and candid about it
7. german collaboration with iran is indicative of real policy
dante ,   uk   (04.04.11)
some german politicians manage to produce appropraite statements of regret but these are only statements. the concrete reality is the general eagerness to condemn Israel and to conspire with Israel's mortal enemies.
8. on Mr gerstenfeld's "whitewashing the past"
joel ,   usa   (04.04.11)
by experience most people from different nationals who have dealings with common Germans overseas have feelings that the Germans really have that ":Nazi " attitude towards others, ok? not only to the Jews but to other nationals, as well; real descendants of the Hitler/Nazi generation!
9. Just trying to whitewash their crimes
Rachel ,   US   (04.04.11)
10. #1 unfortunately....yes
julie ,   Israel   (04.04.11)
I have met many young German Jews who prefer to live in ""their ccountry" as they call it, over Israel. They gush on and on about how modern and wonderful it is there and how it is a "compltely different place" now. And of the many dillusional Israelis who love to go there for a holiday.
11. This article is idiotic: Germany is our ally!
Avner ,   Tel Aviv   (04.04.11)
Germany is one of the most supportive countries towards Israel in the world, and probably the most supportive country in Europe. Almost all educated Germans are extremely ashamed of the holocaust, and are sympathetic towards the Jewish community. I have met many Germans who all think this way. Contemporary Germany is one of the most successful countries in the world, with one of the greatest cultures. It has admitted its guilt for the holocaust to a greater extent than any other country. And it is one Israel's closest allies. These facts should not be white-washed either.
12. German Criticism of Israeli Occupation and Ethnic Cleasing
Max   (04.04.11)
Nice to see some Israelis still over-indulge themselves in criticism of Germany for its involvement in the holocaust. Todays Germans still feel guilt for their past policies of of colonial expansionism and ethnic cleansing, but they won't stand idle when Israel repeats the same crimes in the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan - that's legitimate criticism.
13. Back to the future
Arie ,   BaGolan   (04.04.11)
Things don't change...they just went through a 60+ year transformation with new descriptions of the same feelings. Anyone thinking Germany or a Soros Obama US is safe for Jews is tragically ignoring the past
14. what's new about it?
bob ,   canada   (04.04.11)
They will hate jews no matter what. Hence,Israel should be strong, united and resolute.
15. Shocking and horrid but not surprising
Leonie ,   Ashkelon, Israel   (04.04.11)
While our IDF soldiers painstakingly try to protect innocent lives in our enemy population, we are accused of being Nazis. Meanwhile, Germany, the country which perpetrated Genocide on the Jews (who were not their enemy or any threat to them) thrives, prospers and has had enough of the discomfort of being blamed. The pornography of Israel hatred and anti-semitic propaganda. Do they want to know that since 1967, Gaza's population, for instance, has more than doubled to over 1,600,000? The Jews who are known to be pretty smart at what they take on, if trying to commit genocide, aren't doing a very good job of it, are they? Tragically, the Germans did a thorough job and we have 6 million reasons to neither forgive nor forget.
16. Germany paid Israel off through the shilumim.
Michael   (04.04.11)
Please count me among the "idiots" who like to travel to Germany and likes to meet Germans. In general, they are very nice people and recognize the Nazi crimes for which they often feel guilty.
17. time 4 merkel to stop ignoring polls?
democrat   (04.04.11)
She's aware of the results. That's exactly why she acts this way, having recognized the wide-spread existence of those opinions; she needs the votes, you know.. got to love democracy.
18. to #11 Avner: It's "still an ally"
jo ,   ger   (04.04.11)
While it's right to point out that they admitted guilt in the genocide and are generally supportive to Israel, that's not going to last forever. With a certain percentage of indigenous germans still sharing antisemitic values and , more important and worrying, muslim antisemites on the rise, sooner or later demographies will kick in. That means, if in an election a politician struggles hard to get enough votes, he or she is increasingly likely to play this "evil" card, just to get elected. (Swing voters) Gerhard Schröder did it and that was years ago.
19. this artickle is all wrong, sadly no connection
ghostq   (04.04.11)
to reality, most of the antisemitic acts today in Germany r done by Turkish immigrants, not by Germans, it is realy sad since so much went through Germany since than, and since the cold war.
20. comparing TBs here to those on the Latino survey item....
a reader ,   Jerusalem   (04.04.11)
....from last week which also appeared here on Ynetnews.com I note that these TBers are not completely turned against Germany as they were turned completely against the Latinos in the USA. In these TBs there is less criticism of Germany and more criticism of Jews who either live there or who choose to visit there. Why is that?
21. Bore bore
Shmuel ,   Au   (04.04.11)
Another of Gerstenfeld's guide to countries that don't like Israel. Only another 194 to go. Amid the diatribe at least we get, a laugh a certain Ms Urban writing on German myths.Urban myths no doubt... This is another piece of hack writ, ing of the lowest level. Who will it be next week Belgium, Grrece? I cannot wait
22. #7 oh realy? your country opened fire
ghostq   (04.04.11)
at holocaust refugees in 1947, killed 4 and injured 200, right before you returned the ship to Germany, though the ship didn't make it to Europ, the ship drowned neer cyprus along with 3/4 of the holocaust survivors' population, further more the Jordanian army attacked jews in the 1948 war the batle of Latrun, the jordanian brigades were still under the British crown, meaning you provided arabs with weapons so they can shoot jews, and all of that happened right after the 1945, in other words Brits bite me.
23. An alternate opinion.
Li ,   USA   (04.04.11)
Some people would like to just have the satisfaction of being on moral high ground. More important, really, is the actual current state of the German (e.g.) mind. If a German is comparing Israel to the Nazis, that German is making a moral statement that ultimately favors Jews. It may not reflect well on Israel, but it is a positive step. There are already plenty of examples of the inhumanity of men (in all governments, including Israel), but it is shocking to read the statement from the Pres of the German Psychiatric society that German psychiatrists had initiated race and euthanasia policies. Medicine has always been the playground of smart criminals.
24. Really, Stop ignoring the polls.
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.04.11)
Nearly half of Jewish youths support revoking Arab-"Israelis"' basic rights. Asked how they feel when they think of Arabs, 25% responded with "hate "! 75 percent of Jewish students believe Arabs uneducated, uncivilized, unclean. I do not think the German people in the twenty-first century speak this way about Jews. look in the mirror before you accuse someone else of anti-Semitism.
25. There is something positive about this
Cynic #2   (04.04.11)
The German criticism of Israel is a political issue not a racist one. This is a far cry from the view of most Israelis, especially the young generation which is very anti Arab i.e. RACIST!
26. #17, democrat, Merkel does what she can,
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.04.11)
to help Iran to go nuclear...she is an ENEMY of the Jewish people...
27. #3: how can one compare the challenges...
dante ,   uk   (04.04.11)
one cannot compare the challenges faced by Israel and germany: Israel is a young country with limited natural resources, which has accepted many disadvantaged immigrants, and which is surrounded by mortal enemies, including a disloyal arab fifth column. germany, by contrast, is the strongest european power; it has resources that allow ample policy options. don't be stupid.
28. Blame the whole world, it won't help you.
berlonski ,   berlin   (04.04.11)
Okay, now after UK and Norway, it's Germany. This time a quite easy target as the former super power of evil. If Mr. Gerstenfeld wants, he can continue and write other 185 articles about 185 countries in the world and he will find troublesome developments of anti-semitism and and Israel hate. (I myself am worried about new trends of anti-semitism in Germany, though there are for sure bigger dangers in Germany these days.) But lecturing other countries and defining detailed policy schedules for their governments will not improve Israel's situation. If Ben-Gurion and the founders of Israel had been busy with blaming and lecturing the world like that (and they had many more reasons for it), there wouldn't be Israel today. It is annoying to read again and again Ynet opinion articles like Mr. Gerstenfeld's - attacking specific countries, organizations, individual persons. It is so tiring. But where are creative approaches, new ideas, surprising ways of thinking, courageous proposals? Well, may be they create less media attention and less talkbacks ...
29. #6, EXCELLENT proposal...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.04.11)
I already know the answers...
30. The common thread...comical
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (04.04.11)
There seems to be a common thread that runs through articles such as the one above. The (pick any one) Latinos, Germans. Norwegiians, Dutch, English, the whole world, the universe etc. etc., are antisemitic. Therefore, Jews in the Diaspora should either :1) give more money to Israel or 2) make aliyah. A corollary to this line of propaganda is that all actions by Israel do not have to abide by any international standards of justice, values or even humanity for whatever Israelis do doesn't matter because everyone is against them merely for the fact they are Jewish. Apparently reality and truth are antisemitic. along with any criticism, of the zionist state or philosophy.
