31. #12 Sorry, Max
berlonski ,   berlin   (04.04.11)
I am very critical regarding the Israeli occupation of Palestinians. But comparing Israel's policies and actions with Nazi Germany is ridiculous and is trying to make the Nazi crimes look harmless. Greetings, a fellow German.
32. Reformed Nazi like Moderate Arabs
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (04.04.11)
Both mythical beasts. Once a Nazi always a Nazi. The German people aided and abetted genocide and still do.
33. no 6 i do not think you understand
(04.04.11)
hitler did kill all of us to some extent , by doing what he did, he took away my bershert, all the great minds to be that could have been, and millions of jews who should have been born to this world. and they dont have many jews there now so yes of course they continue to be happy in their judenfrie envirment
34. Workes like a charm....
Edithann ,   USA   (04.04.11)
Getting others to 'hate' Jews is an age old strategy and it's worked like a charm for centuries... Having a defensive attitude and position gives license for any and all kinds of behavior because 'they hate us'! It's masterful and works every time.. Now it's Germany, and Latinos, and of course the growing anti-Semitism around the world...which gives all Jews reason to 'do unto all others' because all 'others' are anti-Semites and deserve it and more! Reading the anger, spewed on these talkbacks proves the point!... TATA
35. Sounds like whitewashing the present to me
John   (04.04.11)
36. Netanyahu.
ילאמינאטי   (04.04.11)
You know they’re coming for you, yet you wait and watch them arm to the teeth. WHY?
37. #31, Sorry berlonski, why aren't you critical
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.04.11)

Michael ,   California, USA   (04.04.11)
40. #4, Am I an Antisemite?
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.04.11)
I say NO to Chosen People, "ata b'hartanu," and I say NO to Light to the Gentiles, "or l'Goyim," and NO to An Eye for an Eye, "ayin tahat ayin," and many other NO's that are the source of Antisemitism in the world. I also say "Never Again" to Antisemitism of the true meaning, not a stupid propaganda.
41. #40 Michael
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.05.11)
Yo sure sound by one, judging by many of the posts you have written You simply couldn't cut it and turned sour
42. #34 Edithann "Anger spewing"
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.05.11)
I just wonder, have you ever bothered to listen to yourself ? You sound positively rabid TaTa - The sound a Woodpecker makes when it batting it's head against something that's sturdier than itself
43. 40Michael To what do you say YES..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.05.11)
to Judaism?Talk about that with your friends. This would be more helpful to Jews. To say 'never again"is not enough. We need to be watchful, not to uncover our weak sides to strangers. This has to be done between us in a POSITIVE way.
44. #30 Mikesailor
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.05.11)
No, the reality is that Israel does abide by international standards of justice, values and even humanity, but people like you close their eyes because what they would see goes against what they want to see.
45. An important article
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.05.11)
This is an important article. My guess is that the present German leadership knows about the German public's continuing abominable anti- Semitism which expresses itself nowadays most often as anti- Israel feeling. But it is important to remind them that others are aware of it.
46. #41, 43: "Yes" to a State at peace with itself
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.05.11)
This labeling of individuals as Antisemites serves no purpose and is not black and white, as I tried to illustrate. It is much less black and white when it comes to Germany and other nations, like Poland for instance. We don't need these divisions, not with international community and not among ourselves. ORA, I can list many yeses, but you pick it up from my comments (like, yes to the Knesset for free medicines to Holocaust survivors.)
47. As an Israeli I find these talkbacks & articles embarrassing
Avner ,   Tel Aviv   (04.05.11)
These talkbacks and articles are showing alarming ignorance. I find it embarrassing to read, and I can say this does not represent the view of the majority of Israelis. I wonder how many of you have even been on holiday to Germany, or met any German people, or read any contemporary German books? Do I have to explain again? Almost all educated Germans are very sympathetic to the Jewish community and Jewish history. Educated Germans are extremely ashamed of the holocaust. They study the history very carefully. You only have to see how many exhibitions they have on Jewish history, or how proud they are of German-speaking Jewish figures like Einstein, Heinrich Heine, Kafka or Mendelsohhn. Moreover, Germany is one of Israeli's best allies, and this is shown by concrete measures they take, such as the funding help they provide for our Dolphin submarine. Many German and Israeli schools have an exchange program. Generally Israeli-German economic and cultural ties are increasing all the time. Of course, Germany also has a minority of uneducated people (especially in the Eastern part), who support the Nazis. Germany has a huge population, with massive divisions based on education levels and regions. Almost all anti-semitic crimes that occur their are committed by Muslim immigrants.
48. Germany is a diverse country with a diverse population
Hanna ,   Berlin Deutschland   (04.05.11)
Germany will have it's Nazi past attached to it's ass forever , but that is no reason to find "proof" that germans 3 generations later are exacty the same as their greatgrandparents . We're being taught in school to never forget what happened during WW II , don't worry we won't EVER ! There are Nazi's in France , Austria , Hungary - everywhere you go ... and there will always people that are not happy with Israel . Now deal with it . Germany is a modern democratic country with an excellent school system .
49. Avner, Tel Aviv, you are 100% correct.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.05.11)
Like you, I have been there quite a few times and can confirm everything you stated about Germany. Let's not forget to mention the many Germans who volunteer in Israel and contribute from their labor a lot. Also, the money Germany paid to Holocaust survivors was critical to Israeli survival. Don't feel embarrassed, you have friends. Please write more often.
50. 47, 48, 49 Avner, Hanna, Michael
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.05.11)
Thank you all! I remember when West Germany was THE friend of Israel; the US not so much. When I lived in Jerusalem I had a German housemate, there through the Nietzsche (?) program; students for the ministry who came to Israel to study. He lit shabbos candles, went to synagogue, studied Talmud...to understand. Don't forget...but forgive, especially generations that come after.
51. I meant the Goethe Institute
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.05.11)
52. hypocrisy
canada   (04.05.11)
We are constantly told that any criticism of the policies of the Israeli government are allegedly a collective judgement, or so called 'hatred', of all Jewish people. And this is 'bad'...correct? Yet this article demonstrates a brazen collective judgement of an entire nation of Germans based on policies of a government that doesn't even exist anymore and hasn't for over 60 years, and somehow this is acceptable? Are we to assume that this author has a racial hatred for all German people? Think about it. If anyone applied a broadbrush condemnation of Jewish people as this author has done toward Germans, we would never hear the end of accusations of 'antisemitism'.
53. not only Germany but the whole world
anya ,   toronto, canada   (04.06.11)
I think these findings can be very real in many countries of the World. you do not have to be a polititian to see what is happening in middle east, the aggression of Israel is unexcusable.
54. #53 anya
solomon ,   Bklyn USA   (04.06.11)
What "aggression"? The "aggression" of reponding to rockets aimed at them, especially civilians? The "aggression" of trying to find the people who sent a suicide bomber who blew himself up at a bus stop? The "aggression" of looking for the murderer of a family, including three children, the youngest of whom was only a few months old? The "aggression" of the anger of Israelis when they learn that the PA still teaches their children it is ok to kill Jews? "Aggression"?...yea, right...
55. 47% !!!?
Ben Dover   (04.07.11)
I think someone must be fudging the figures as 87% would be a more realistic number. Here in Australia i can assure you all that 97% wouldnt be far off the mark.
56. New criminal Germany
Brigitte Goldstein ,   USA   (05.02.11)
I agree with Manfred Gerstenfeld that the results of recent polls which apparently show that large numbers of Germans believe that Israel is committing genocide against the Arab population -- the only genocide by the way where the targeted population is growing by leaps and bounds -- is cause for alarm, especially since it shows a trend toward delegitimizing the existence of the Jewish state that is prevalent in many European countries. However, he weakens his argument by inserting a section under the heading "Active Involvement in Crime" in which he cites recent historical sources that document widespread involvement by "ordinary" Germans in the extermination of the Jews under the Nazi regime. First of all, this is nothing new. Anybody remotely familiar with the history has known for years that it took the collaboration of broad segments of German governmental agencies to carry out the crime. But what is the point here? That they did it then and their descendants are likely to do it again? This is a specious argument, to say the least. It should also be noted that all the sources Mr. Gerstenfeld cites are of German origin, drawn from German historial research, German television programs, etc. Hardly a denial of the past. No doubt there are segements of society motivated by anti-Jewish, anti-Israel sentiments and who distort Israeli policies in self-defense against attacks from persistently hostile neighbors as a welcome excuse to pillory the Jews as "just as bad as the Nazis" whereby Nazi crimes of the past would presumably be exonerate. In all fairness, it would be useful, before making generalizations, to examine the sample of those polled as to their background, ethnic, social, and otherwise. Is it a representative sample of the German people as a whole? I am not trying to make excuses Germans or any other Europeans. Vile expressions of prejudice and unconcealed hatred of Israel and Jews that have become fashionable and can now be heard throughout the European Union not only from the common populace but from the poisonous lips of high government officials in Brussels and elsewhere is indeed alarming and highly disturbing. To single out Germans with a headline like "new criminal Germany emerging" distorts the true picture of what is going.
