2. But this does not prevent
R ,   Israel   (04.06.11)
the international left-wing media from eating up everything they are fed by the PA and spitting it out in condemnations of Israel.
3. Nothing is free when it comes to Arabs
Talula ,   Israel   (04.06.11)
There's no freedom of the press, there's no dressing freely, there's no partying freely, there's no talking freely - you get thrown off a roof or shot in the head if you dare break any of these 'laws'. Yep! a really happy place to live. NOT! Wonder what they are hiding so fiercely.
4. Goldstone should report on this!

Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.06.11)
It's well known that in Gaza you'll be arrested or harassed is your a Fatah or PA press member. In the West Bank the same is true if your a Hamas member. In both places...Gaza and the WB...if you write anything perceived pro-West, Pro-Israel, again you'll you'll be arrested and your family threatened. There NEVER has been a free press under any Arab leadership in the disputed territories. Arafat routinely used this "press access tool" to blackmail the Mainstream Press. So if any Western Media printed or aired anything negative, they would be barred from the PA controlled land. Since so much International news comes from that area the Western media went along with the blackmail. It's been this way for over 30 years, only after Reuters gets attacked does anybody notice. In a way it's funny, because Reuters is the most bias news agency against Israel and Pro-Arab. So Hamas shot themselves in the foot when they attacked Reuters.
7. Gosh, HRW, what about abusing civilians?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.06.11)
For the past decade the Palestinians have been continuing their attacks explicitly and specifically aimed at Israeli civilians. I don't recall any "harsh" reports from HRW. In fact, with rocket and mortar attacks going non-stop, why did HRW take time out to deal with Pal journalists, when that too is an old, old story that has been known for years. When the PA first came to office, Palestinian journalists were "invited" for a cup of coffee at the local security service office. At 2 a.m. Then, of course, there was the famous case of the editor-in-chief of Al-Quds newspaper disappearing for a week. Why? Because his paper had written a story that criticized Yasser Arafat. Al-Quds got the message, and the editor was released after a week of being terrorized in a Palestinian jail. Funny, but I simply don't remember HRW being interested in those stories. So after 15 years what caused HRW to wake up? Will it take another 15 years before they react to Palestinian policy of attacking Israeli civilians?
8. Maybe TEHY have the right Idea - Abuse = Compliance
Andrew ,   Miami,FL   (04.06.11)
Notice how when journalists are abused - they tell nice stories about the abuser. When Israel is nice to them - they tell mean stories and lies. Seems to work well for thr PA and Hamas
9. Not these peace loving souls
Shalom ,   Ashdod, Israel   (04.06.11)
They could not be speaking about these peace loving people who distribute candy when a bomb explodes in Israel. Will somebody call that idiot Goldstone and tell him about this.BUT is anybody really surprised? After all this is the ways that ALL Arabs behave. Show me one democracy in the whole Middle East. Aren't they overdue for "elections" in the west bank and Gaza. Do not hold your breath!!
10. although old news...
smells ,   WORLD   (04.06.11)
am happy they are airing it- but at the same time suspicious- like if somebody negociated these bits of news to comew out as a favour against ... what? sounds political game- and more from the sources- not such thing as palestinian journalists saying their word against their authority- something's fishy here- between the story about goldstein's retrieve- and then the journalists with drawn masking tape
11. pa and freedom of the press?
ed ,   reno, america   (04.06.11)
freedom of the press and the palestinian authority, and i include hamas in this, are not compatible items. and having the hrw complain is a slap in the face to the palestinians because the hrw is a pro palestinian group!
12. Whats new? This is has been known to Israel admirers for yea
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (04.06.11)
rs and years - and they get away with it like they will this. Why else do western media take the side of terrorist scum and pit it against Israel (TRUTH)!

You are 100% correct! Everything you don't agree with or that you don't want to believe or that is inconvenient for you, especially facts, are all the result of the Mossad or Shin Bet. They have a shark and a vulture they'd like you to talk to as well.

19. PA OPERATES ACCORDING TO VALUES OF DEMOCRACY???!!!!
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (04.06.11)
I'm always the first to point out that democracy is much more than elections, but there still have to be elections.Without free and fair elections the people's wishes and approval are unknown, and PA elections are notable, now, only in their absence Bit by bit,Abbas has turned himself into an unelected life 'President' who rules for the benefit of himself and his cronies. The Palestinian Authority can boast all it want that it operates according to the values of democracy, but that's just mendacious double-talk.Democracy is nowhere in sight in the PA. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
20. ...and those who aren't beaten up...
William ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
are the ones writing the lies from the PA and Hamas, the same that the UN takes as fact without question. Let's just agree that journalism in the Arab world is dead and move on.
21. #6 - not just Arafat. Mugabe's doing the same thing
William ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
Mugabe's been beating up journalists in Zimbabwe since he took power and has thrown quite a few news organizations out of the country. Some have complained, especially when he instituted a very high fee for a press pass, but they still rushed to pay the fee and gain access to Zimbabwe. But to date, I haven't heard the UN really mention this, the journalist union hasn't made a stink about it, and no one's talking boycott.
