Beautiful article. If it plays out as explained this makes it gog & magog war.
33. NR 6 AND 8.
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (04.07.11)
NR 6 HAS TO CONCIDER NR 8. THE SCENARIO IN THE ARTICLE, CAN ONLY COME TO PASS, IF ISRAEL SITS IDLE AS NOW TIME FOR ACTION HAS COME - ESAJAH CHAPTER 11. vers - 14But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall despoil them of the east together. They shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon shall obey them. Orao.Srbia.
34. The NEXT War
Edward ,   Savannah, USA   (04.07.11)
NONE of this would ever have to happen had Israel had LEADERS that had any common sense. The problem here is that Israel GAVE back territory that it took in response to an act of war so it is expected to continue giving up land/moral issues to its enemies. The Sinai and Judea/Samaria and the Golan should have been declared Israeli territory right from the start and the other countries around Israel put on notice that any FUTURE war would result with a PERMANENT loss of territory in any act of aggression. This would have put a quick stop to all the nonsense that is happening now. Giving back the Sanai, refusing to declare Judea/Samaria, Golan sovereign Israeli territory, and the giving up of Gaza to enemies results in the problem Israel faces today. This leaves Israel whith no choice but an ALL OUT war in Sept. with either a total expulsion or extermination of its enemies. Israel needs to STATE what will happen if the Palis go through with this and let the U.N. worry about the aftermath, if it really cared about the Paslis. From what I've seen of the Arab treatment of the Palestinians, maybe they are hoping Israel does for them what they always wanted to do themselves,!!!???
35. Preemptive speculation
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.07.11)
I understand I believe the motive behind this piece of speculation. The writer who cares very much for the security of Israel is making a preemptive speculation which he hopes will in some way warn us and enable us to counter the danger. He knows the territory and his line of reasoning makes sense. But it is of course a speculation and reality has a way of being unpredictable.
36. Reality seems to escape the Israeli mind...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (04.07.11)
Part of the author's story is true: If the UN recognizes a Palestinian state within the '67 borders, Israel will have two choices; 1) Finally negotiate realistically with the Palestinians over some settlement blocs while removing others and withdrawing the IDF or 2) face international sanctions in which case even the US cannot save you. Your problem is that if you remove the settlers you may have a civil war on your hands while if you don't, your economy will quickly deteriorate for the EU will not hesitate to go along with a sanctions regime. The stupid mention of 'nukes' will only ensure the sanctions will be more encompassing and far more strictly enforced. So, the real question is where do you go from here? For the status quo you have so vigorously uphel for so many years is finally ending. And all your bluster will not delay that reckoning.
37. Bible Prophecy
Mark ,   Morgantown, USA   (04.07.11)
I think what Yoel Meltzer has proposed a very real scenario. I believe we are soon headed for Daniel's 70th week. Leading up to the time of Jacob's trouble will be the fullfillment of Isaiah 17, Psalms 83 and Ezekiel 38-39. The stage is being set. Time is running short. Obama has sold out Israel and I fear for America as God will not be mocked. We need to fear the consequencses of our actions based on God's eternal promise to the Jewish people based on Genesis 12:1-3. "I will curse those who curse you" Thankfully I have been grafted in thanks to His son, the Messiah.
38. EXACTLY why Israel must preempt NOW and end occupation!
Dovid ,   Los Angeles   (04.07.11)
39. Arab States Won't Have To Attack Israel
World Citizen ,   the world   (04.07.11)
If the UN uses Resolution 377 to declare a Palestinian state the Arab nations will not attack Israel. Why would they? They will have the power of UN sanctions that will surely come against Israel. If anyone starts a war it will be the same people who started every war in the Middle East except the Yom Kippor War. Israel! And should you use nukes on any Arab state then you might find the Russians, Chinese or even the Americans making a glass plain out of Israel. Yes even the Americans are getting sick of your threats and intransigence. Be careful what you wish for. It may come back to haunt you.
40. Israel's next war - 04.07.2011
YaĆ«lle Schlichting ,   Germany, Raubling   (04.07.11)
This comment must have been written by a Yoel Meltzer in a very depressive phase. Today I received information about the latest Hamas attack in south Israel and I first observed the OnLine news magazins. I found it in the international press but nothing in German OnLine publications. After a few hours I wrote to the editors. And I will do this as often as needed. Instead of animating your readers to join in with a depressive chorus I recommend to encourage them to do something. Write letters to the newspapers in your country, to your politicians and do this not only once but always! (I mean particularly Jews and friends of Israel in Europe and other countries) Don't use ready made letter from one of the lobbying organizations but write with your own words. Bother the members of parliament in your country, one by one. Don't get tired!!! It will take months, if not years! On the long run, this will work!
41. #39 actually
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.07.11)
Actually, every single Arab-Israeli war was started by the Arabs. Please name one war Israel started. I'll help you out: 1929 war started when Arabs were "offended " that Jews prayed and attacked them 1948 war started when the Arabs decided to take advantage of the British withdrawal and exterminate the Jews. 1956 war started when Egypt closed the Suez Canal to Israeli shipping. should I go on?
42. Long, long before these dire predictions
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (04.07.11)
come to pass, Israel will have destroyed Hamas and, if necessary, Hezbollah and Iran. The scenario Mr. Meltzer spits out has a very mechanical quality about it which appeals to those who follow the prophecies word by word. But don't be surprised if, by this time next week, we haven't attacked Gaza.
43. Ron, sorry but your a moron
GHook93 ,   Chicago   (04.07.11)
First, the reason international sanctions don't work, is because business properity trumps all. That is why sanctions haven't worked against Iran. Look at Turkey, through all the conflict with them, Israeli exports increased. Second, the UN is powerless, why don't fools like you get that. Rwanda, Congo, Libya, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Liberia, Myammar, North Korea, South America etc are all crystal clear examples of this. They do nothing but put out statements, waste money and waste paper. Third, the US, Europe, South America, China, Russia etc won't attack Israel. In reality it will be Israel's classic enemies that do the attacking: Egypt, Hezbollah, Syria, Palestinians, with a new enemy in Iran lending a hand. All in all, it would be Israel's bloodiest, but she will prevail. But the West, Russia and China won't be invading or participating and that is all that matters. Egypt is much tougher than before, thanks to successive US Presidents that armed them, but not enough to win a war against Israel!
44. #21 Smith. I can't believe your foolishness.
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
#21 Smith. So you think the answer is for Israel to concede to our enemies. To allow a new terror state in our heartland and shrink our waist to 8 miles (15 minute tank ride). In other words, you believe Israel should commit suicide rather than stand up to our enemies. I can't believe your foolishness. Even if Israel did all the insane things you advocate, do you think our enemies would love us? They'd be demanding Tel Aviv, Haifa next as the "price for peace". Your foolishness and death wish is beyond belief.
45. #38-9. Your threats are old hat. Israel was meant to prevail
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
You basically say, "Israel must do as your enemies wish or you're really in trouble". We've heard all this rubbish before, hundreds if not thousands of times. Israel was meant to prevail. Israel was meant to be victorious. Moreover, Israel is not alone in the world. Jews, Fundamentalist Christians and Conservatives worldwide, for the most part, support Israel wall to wall. When all is said and done, Israel's enemies are Jew haters, Muslim extremists and radical leftists. Israel should be proud to have such despicable enemies.
46. isnt that the war of Gog and Magog ?
hadad ,   london   (04.07.11)
My brothers, this is exactly the discriptions for the war of gog and magog, open the book of isia (yeshaaya) and yechezkel and raed for more details and lets go back to the way God and the Torah
47. Peace
Joe ,   Soddy Daisy   (04.07.11)
The statement by the senior Jewish research fellow that Jewish ties to the Temple Mount will bring peace to the Middle East is right on target according to Bible prophecy. Dr. Max Singer, the founder and senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, believes that if Jewish ties are restored to the Temple Mount and Jerusalem, there will be peace in the Middle East. Bible prophecy reveals that Dr. Singer is correct in the final outcome in the end of time scenario written by ancient Jewish prophets 2500 years ago. The prophet Samuel wrote in II Samuel 7 that one of King David's descendants would rule the world from a Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, that descendant will be Jesus Christ, the Jewish Messiah. Isaiah wrote that when the Temple, the house of the Lord, will be established in Jerusalem, nations would turn their military weapons into farming equipment and they would learn of war no more, thus peace in the world, Isaiah 2:1-4. As the quest for peace in the Middle East continues, all must agree with the Bible, Jewish ties to the Temple Mount will indeed bring about peace.
48. Israel Will Reap What It Sows
Supporting Peace ,   Maine USA   (04.07.11)
Author, listen to what you are saying! Using the rest of the world's support for Palestine's statehood as justification to attack Palestine is sheer lunacy. But it is consistent with Israel continuously placing new settlements in the Occupied Territories, which the majority of countries in the UN will never support. Israel can only make itself the sole villain by actually behaving as the sole villain. The erosion of foreign support for Israel derives not only from it's unilateral actions contrary to international law, but also from its avoidance of any action which might lead to a negotiated peace with Palestine. As Israel continues to ignore US calls for a negotiated peace, US support for Israel is drying up at a rapid rate. Because of all this, I no longer see a reason to support Israel, and, should conflict break out, I will loudly join the protests of any US support of Israel. I am already asking my government to join the rest of our more moral allies and support the majority vote in the UN against all internationally unacceptable practices of Israel.
49. Palestinian Recognition
Sy Dill ,   Providence, USA   (04.08.11)
Before throwing bombs all over the place, a good Israeli move would be to annex major portions of the W. Bank and the Golan and quickly move troops into it If there's going to be a war, troops on the ground are very important. Tit for tat, if the missiles come, they we bomb the hell out of them, but first secdure the territoryl
50. #42 Robert - I'm surprised at your lack of understanding
Howard K   (04.08.11)
What is this you write? Trying to soothe the Jews so that they'll continue to sleep undisturbed? Defeat Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran? What else? The whole Arab league, the Somali pirates and the EU as well? Why not throw in the drug cartels too. Israel won't defeat Hamas because nobody can defeat terror, but one thing the Jews can do is to annex the land and I don't suppose you favor that. Instead you say there, there, don't worry your pretty little head, nothing bad will happen, just go back to sleep. Incidentally, I don't follow prophecies. I just follow the news and it all points to a brand new Arab state before the year is over. Your choice of words "spits out" is rather unfortunate too.
51. The Writer is an Iranian agent
Kazim Ali ,   Kut, Iraq   (04.08.11)
This is really highly simplistic attempt at predicting an anaylsis. It overlooks the most serious threat : Iran attempt to encircle Israel and weaken it gradually by spelling Lebanese and palestinian blood. The small Palestinian road show is just that Iranian attempt for nuclear weapon is not. The diversion of this article contributes to this lack of strategic thinking .
52. AMEN!!
michael siegel ,   canada   (04.08.11)
AMEN!!
53. #24
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.08.11)
Israel has been trying to make peace for years. It's the arabs that don't want it. As well as the 'peaceful' activists on the Marmara.
54. ''He who curses Israel will be cursed !''
Jaacov Baumann   (04.08.11)
But ''He who blesses Israel will be blessed !'' This said the one and only God - HE is also called ''the guardian of Israel''. Fighting Israel equals fighting the one and only God - its suicide ! Well - if this is what Israels enemies want, thats what they will get ! If Israels enemies had some brain they would choose to bless Israel, to be blessed and to live !
55. # 40 how sweet of you to care all the way from the deutchlan
(04.08.11)
thanks but no thanks. tell it toy our own people, there in the deutchland. Why do you concern yourself with what is going on here? You will have your own problems with all the muslims that will take over your blood soaked land.
56. 2 remarks
Moshe ,   Netanya   (04.08.11)
First, Abbas will do what is good for Abbas and his family. Nothing else he cares. If 100,000 Arabs has to die so it be. Second, Before Sharon gave Arabs Gaza, in haaretz was an article where the etitor said "that the war will come and, unfortunately, there were too long without war; the folks in Sderor are stupid Likudniks who care only about food. Finally, the suffering of Arabs will end."
57. TO Howard Katz #50
Israeli 2   (04.08.11)
You wrote: "...it all points to a brand new Arab state before the year is over." I read it in some magazine 25 years ago. You are at least a quarter of a century behind your time. CZ -Pan.
58. You forgot to mention the most important thing.
P ,   USA   (04.08.11)
If Isreal goes down...it will take all of its enemies down with her.
59. To the various talkbackers
Yoel Meltzer ,   Israel   (04.08.11)
To those who agree with me, or disagree with me, or are somewhere in between, thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I obviously hope my predictions are wrong but something inside of me says otherwise. Shabbat shalom.
60. And, now, the solution to the problem at hand
Moshe ,   Netanya   (04.08.11)
Since Abbas will do anything to enreach his familly, we must remove Abbas. The problem solved. How to remove Abbas and his familly? (this is a familly business in Middle East. In ME familly goes first) There are 100 ways to do it. Guess! No bombs are needed.
