1. traffic lights and rules are not optional , Israelis
Mario Lumbi ,   Italy   (04.07.11)
Scofflaws and unnecessary risk-takers, causing untold misery to untold numbers of people, in automobiles, and now apparently trains also.
2. Dear Rakevet Israel
deebo_ ,   Holon, Israel   (04.07.11)
You need a serious safety overhaul. Now. My best wishes to those injured.
3. yesterday a fire today a derailment , whats` tommorow
Avi ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
4. I thought hiring Mickey Mouse as an engineer was a lie but
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.07.11)
now I'm not so sure.
5.  want to take a joy ride in Israel's infamous railroasd?
jo   (04.07.11)
THE STAFF: incompetance reign supreme. We have managers who are uncapable in managing; supervisors without supervisory experience; employees in a state of confusion - the norm; and mechanics? without direction or maintenance schedule for our NEW TRAINS. All this while accidents keep pilling up. I wouldn't hire them for street cleaning . How about putting some MK's to work in the yard at least they might make themselves useful?
6. Dirty Train Cars ...
Raphael ,   Raanana, Israel   (04.07.11)
Driving on the Ayalon I noticed how dirty the train cars were. In western Europe you rarely see this. In eastern Europe it was the norm. I wonder if we can't wash the trains, how about the other aspects like maintenance and operating procedures.
7. What's wrong with Israel Railways?
VernonMarriott ,   Tel Aviv   (04.07.11)
There seems to be more crashes per mile of track than many other Western Rail systems. i wonder how they do in the world league tables?
8. #5 No more accidents here than rest of the world
israel   (04.07.11)
9. this is part 2 of # 5
jo   (04.07.11)
Why are the trains dirty? (choices of 2 ) one, because the passengers are not clean and two, no one cleans them. Why are they filled to capacity? planning non existant. Why are the toilets filthy?,your own answer will tell you. Why do you allow food and drinks if you have no intentions to do some clean-up. the same applys to waiting rooms / platforms.... Because you are stupid.
10. Train collision near Netanaya ...
JB ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
Has the Israeli Railway ever considered installing ATS (automatic train stop system) to prevent further similar accidents?
11. Look who is talking #1!
Yoel   (04.07.11)
Look who is talking! It is well known that Italians are good example in matter of respecting traffic rules and especially red lights ....
12. The trouble........
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (04.07.11)
..with Israel Railways is that it is a scratch-your-back featherbed of protectionism run by a pack of incompetent bully-boy losers who couldn't organize a booze-up in a brewery. They are playing with people's lives here - one event follows another - and they always try to pass the blame onto someone else like the train manufacturers or whatever. They should undergo a serious overhaul immediately and get their pathetic act together. It's a good job these idiots are not in charge of airplanes.
13. TYPICAL 3RD WORLD MESS
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (04.07.11)
Being a user of the train, it is amazing that this whole week all the train service to the south and Jerusalem has been cancelled. Instead of finishing work one traject at the time, like it is done in most countries, they do it this way. They do not have to investigate the cause, it will be negligence of rules as usual. People do not realize that the rail network here is tiny, so it should not be to difficult, to minimize accidents. On the other hand it is taking years already to upgrade Ben Gourion airport flight control, despite many close calls. For sure another commission will be stablished with high paid retired judges and so on, to come to the bottom of this.
14. Again
Ellen ,   Netanya/NYC   (04.07.11)
Something needs to be overhauled in the Israeli train system. That is definite. However, the response of some of my fellow talkbackers is inane. Dirty cars??? The insides are not dirty, if food is left--blame the pigs *umm passengers" who left it. The outside of the cars????--who cares--Israel has a severe water shortage. I'd rather have the outside of the cars be dirty than have nothing to drink!!! Think people before you write--it will make you sound more intelligent.
15. They do have ATS but it doesn't work!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.07.11)
About a year ago there was almost a collision near Haifa's Bat Galim Station. Two trains on the same track. The railways announced that the ATS stopped the train in time. Great! However, after an "inquiry" it appeared it didn't work or it wasn't turned on! Israel Railways is the most nepotistic company in this country. The Union ensures that only family or family get jobs and, according to an expose on Channel 2 TV a few years ago, driver "training" is a few weeks! All they are taught is to start and stop the train and look out the window. The front one I think. No doubt they are also taught when to jump out of the cab!
16. #12 Mike Carmel: Take a look at the BG Airport failings!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.07.11)
There have been many near misses and the ILS was only installed in 2008! Security we are best! Safety, well it stinks!
17. #1 Italian you can talk!!!
Jan Cohen ,   UK   (04.07.11)
I have never been so terrified driving in Italy .Speeding, erratic driving and risk taking and that's an understatement.Look at your own drivers in Italy . I'll never drive there again better to fly or take the train!
18. Israel has a bad safety record with railway
Daniel ,   UK   (04.07.11)
I would suggest more stringent training courses for all staff concerned and a beefing up expenditure on safety mechanisms, software. The ends would justify the means as train crashes cost more money, reduce public confidence.
19. Train events
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (04.07.11)
Three events of fires aboard trains, a number of derailments, train crashes, buses / cars hit by trains. We don't need enemies - we are doing it to ourselves.... And then again, how do can we be 100% sure that none of this is sabotage ??? Some people have flight phobia, I'm getting train phobia.
20. does the PA have to severely condemn that too?
observer ,   Egypt   (04.07.11)
21. Knee-jerk commentary
David N. ,   Haifa, Israel   (04.07.11)
What a lot of knee-jerk commentary. Yes, this accident is serious, and someone should probably be removed from his job, and procedures gone over, and further saftey lectures etc. But all the snide remarks are worthless. Expert opinion is what is needed. Israelis stop at traffic lights. I can see a busy highway intersection at the entrance to Haifa from my apartment, and running red lights is extremely rare. Perhaps a single railroad employee failed unacceptably in a critical moment. It says nothing automatically about all Israel. Some of you folks here sound like Israel deliegitimizers. Stay on track--let the accident be investigated. Fire the guilty part, charge him with criminal negligence. Don't convict all Israel.
22. to #20 you sound guily, usually people
ghostq   (04.07.11)
who r guilty make that type of statments, don't jump jack in the box the headlines do not consern palis, I know I know it is hard when you r not in the front headlines, you got this psycological fixation of fron headlines, other wise you get pety, tisk tisk tisk.
23. lol, :)))))))

24. #17 Jan Cohen, UK
Marco ,   Spain   (04.07.11)

25. #20 observer, Egypt

26. # 20 No, they should discourage slitting the throats
Israelit ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
Of sleeping 3 month old babies, children and their parents. Or, the bombing of bus stops.
27. #24 Marco
Jan Cohen ,   UK   (04.07.11)
Marco or is it Muhammed? You need to calm down and stop being so abusive or maybe the truth hurts.
28. #27 Jan Cohen
Marco ,   Spain   (04.07.11)
The problem Jan baby is that Ynet censors what I have to say to u. So I will limit myself to NO COMMENT...
29. another train mishap
yoel reuben ,   Israel   (04.07.11)
the people in the control room are aware of all trains on their screens why did they not alert the train driver of his mistake immeditaly - as for the driver fire him was he asleep?
30. Torah study in the engineer's cab
motti ,   beer sheva   (04.07.11)
In the engineer's cab, an open door revealed two men in black studying holy books laid out side by side on the control panel. I notified Israel Railways. I should have reminded them of their responsibility for the safety of perhaps a hundred passengers. Would it have made a difference? Motti
