Israel is an incredible country, a bubbling volcano of innovation. Hamas and Islamic Jihad are nihilistic death cults that will leave nothing behind for history to admire.

I am thankful the system worked here. While I hope it does not have to be used much, I also hope it is 100% effective when it is employed. As much as this is a fascinating piece of news, I suspect it won't get much coverage because 1. no palestinians were killed, 2. it caused no hardships for the palestinians and 3. it portrays Israel as decent, wanting only to protect her citizens.

That's good news. Tell me: ist ist technically possible to install an unmanned system tracking Gazan rockets and fire back precisely to their point of origin within seconds? Randomly bombing densely populated Gaza as retaliation will kill many innocent people and won't solve the problem. But Gaza ist so small that it should be scannable by a couple of drones/ballons/zeppelins/towers on your side of the border, computing the coordinates of the missile launch site and answering so quickly that the terrorists are still there? Does anyone know if that would be realistic in technical terms? It seems much more impressing than the usual answers given today.

I'm glad the air defense system works, but the only true fix is to hunt down every last Islamist and rid the world of these lunatics.

Very glad to see that Iron Dome provides a measure of protection. But don't be stupid and think that defense - even when successful - is enough. To deter aggression, it is still necessary to retaliate strongly and appropriately. I would suggest pinpointing launch points for the enemy's rockets followed by immediate artillery bombardment. See how long the Arabs like 10 or 100 HE shells raining down on them for each rocket they fire!

I find it appalling that the world would demonize the Jewish people because they have been successful in all walks of life. Perhaps if they spent their time and energy trying to improve their lives instead of hating, things would turn out better and there would not be a need to attack.

Why not take the defense a step further! The technology exists to identify the origin of mortars and rockets firing locations. Such locations should be immediately attacked and the offending individuals (or at least their weapons) would be destroyed. The US has this technology, it is a shame that the mulatto muslim from Kenya will not share this with our only true ally in the Middle-East. May the All Mighty preserve, protect and defend Israel, despite the efforts of Obama to destroy the Sacred Land of Israel by aiding and abetting the enemy.

Every time a rocket is fired at Isreal, it should be headline news. Then people would understand how serious this is. I think its awesome that the defense system is up and working!

Shooting down missiles may not be cost effective. The Strategic Air Command method of deterrence has been proven to work. Civilians should be warned to leave their homes when terrorists hide and use their missiles and weapons among their schools, hospitals and mosques as they become legitimate targets in combatting the terrorists.

Its called "counter-battery radar" and its been around since the Soviets stormed the Oder. The trouble is, Israel would ALWAYS be shooting at schools and hospitals because that's where the rockets are based.

This news, while fantastic, also worries me a little. The problem is the opposition, whether right or wrong, feels justified in what they are doing. A good defense will only increase their persistance and not dissuade. I fear that have this shield in place will only encourage them to try harder to kill innocent people. I am glad it is there, and I hope it continues to save lives, but I worry about how this will escalate from here.
