Considering the small number of Jews in Europe, very few animals are "kosher slaughtered", certainly fewer than murdered by hunting, and certainly fewer than the number of animals slaughtered fully conscious or who suffer from the stunning ("stunning" fails 10% of the time). If you really cared about animal suffering, you would prohibit hunting and find ways to improve stunning techniques before attacking the Jews. As a Sochet in training I would like to make some remarks: -Kosher slaughtering is done with a knife sharper than the knife of a surgeon. And almost no person in the world hasn't cut himself once to something so sharp that he/she didn't notice it. This is the same for Kosher slaughtering; the animal won't feel it. -stunning of an animal is done by *shooting the brain to pieces with a bullet or pin, or *by electrocution on 220 or 380 volt (like at home). Try both at home and tell me if you liked this kind of stunning: Both are extremely painful. AND: The animal is dying from this moment onwards but then still concious and alive !! Only after the painful stunning, the animal will be slaughtered. So the animal is in fact suffering pain twice !!! Did you ever wonder why every once and a while stunned cows escape from the slaughter houses and run into the streets ?? And why such an animal goes on the loose after "stunning".... ?? Not because he liked it and because it is stunned...believe me. Diseases: -BSE, Mad-cow disease, Scrapie, CJD and Kuru are diseases that are being caused by prions (proteins). These prions are to be found in the brain and some lymphatic tissue. As soon as the brain is being shot to pieces by stunning, the prions that were trapped in the brain tissue are being released. As the heart of the animal is still pumping al the contagious prions end up in ALL the meat and may contaminate all the people eating this stunned meat. This could cause in 15 to 25 years BSE or Creutzfeld-jacob. Kosher slaughtering doesn't have these disadvantages: -the animal is slaughtered only once and is dead afterwards. -The animal is deep unconscious in a few seconds after the slaughter. -the brain is left whole and never cut. So no prions are being released with kosher slaughter; -the blood, that might carry diseases, leaves the body within one minute. So: think twice and use your brain, (for as far as BSE and CJD haven't damaged your brain already).

Many of these animals would no longer exist if they did not have an economic value to humans. They are bred for one purpose, to provide food to people. Many breeds of cows, horses, chickens and pigs that were common on farms in the 19th century no longer exist or are very rare because they have no economic value to farmers. In other words, these animals would die out and become extinct if we were not eating them.

If you are not a religious person that is fine. But you should not diss other people's religious beliefs. I disagree with a lot of other religions, but I don't belittle their beliefs in public. Keeping kosher is important to us and should be respected. We have been doing this for thousands of years and we are not hurting anyone. There is still a lot of dispute about the least painful way to slaughter animals. You remind me of the comedian Bill Mahar, who is always dissing religion, all religions.
