1. Truce a mistake, we're not finished yet.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (04.09.11)
What is this, a soccer match? The enemy team can call ''time out'' when it suits them? If our leaders fall for this BS, then truely, there is no hope for us.
2. They are concerned about the life of their leaders, not ...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.09.11)
...about the life of the rest of the Arabs in Gaza!! They know that if they continue to attack Israelis, their leaders will be "taken out". These leaders don't mind if their people are killed, but they refuse to pay the price of their own aggression against Jewish civilians.
3. ''Hamas Hit Hard ..........''
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (04.09.11)
C'mon, our response was a slap on the wrist. This is just BS, propaganda to shut up the public. Are we supposed to celebrate make-believe ''victories'' like the Arabs? This is exactly why we have no deterrence.
4. For how many minutes??
Annmarie ,   USA   (04.09.11)
5. Truce? So they can get more Grad rockets?
Cynic ,   USA   (04.09.11)
6. RECOMMENDATIONS
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.09.11)
Israel should say NO to any ceasefire. With one exception, Hamas cease all rocket fire, that Hamas is responsible for 100% for ANY ATTACKS, (either Hamas has control, or it does NOT) in which case Hamas is in no position to offer a ceasefire. Finally Shalit must be released immediately. Without any pre-conditions, Meaning no trades whatsoever. Shalit is released as a condition for a ceasefire. If Hamas doesn't like it then Israel will continue the attacks. Israel can use the Arab rule, make an offer, don't budge an inch, take it or leave it.
7. That means we're really impacting them
Eidus ,   USA   (04.09.11)
and that Israel should keep going. Target every known terrorist and terrorist leader possible while we still can.
8. Inconditional surrending
Jorge ,   Israel/USA/Argentina   (04.09.11)
First: free Shalit under no conditions. Second: raise the white flag and drop the weapons. Third: pack up and go back to Iran. Fourth: You will be granted cease of fire
9. Hamas call for truce!!!!
Spencer ,   Israel   (04.09.11)
Israel will decide when there is a cease fire. In the meantime we need to hit Hamas so hard and continue hitting them.
10. Window of opportunity
King David ,   Las Vegas, NV   (04.09.11)
It's easy to criticize safely from my iPhone in Las Vegas with no known relatives in IDF but it seems there is a window now to relentlessly attack Gaza and a cease fire will only happen if: 1. Weapons flow to Gaza is strangled; 2. Gilad is returned safely. It is not more complicated than this. It appears the "new," Egypt could be sympathetic to Gaza so now is the type to crush Gaza before Egypt is solidified. I also didnt like Israel's message to world regarding the school bus being an inexecusable attack. ANY ATTACK from Gaza is inexecusable.
11. 20 Hamas removed equals harsh response ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (04.09.11)
Israel is truly led by little fairies who have no clue what the meaning of the word HARSH is. How sad that the IDF is run by small men who do not know the concept of victory and continue the failed tit for tat status quo.
12. Just let them know you'll think about it
Ypip ,   Canada   (04.09.11)
Then do that for as long as you need to.
13. Take off the kid gloves
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (04.09.11)
We should be like the NATO allies in Libya, who attacked a tank column, thinking they were Gadaffi's tanks because "they didn't know the rebels also had tanks". Nato is supposed to be helping the rebels, not bombing them. But the allied commander refused to apologise for mistakenly killing "up to 13 rebels", because, he says, they didn't know the rebels had tanks too. So why don't the same rules apply to Israel and the IDF? We are fighting here for our existence, while NATO isn't fighting for anyone's existence (they have to justify the very existence of NATO, don't they?). If Hams, Jihad - whoever - are hiding in schools and other public buildings, to hell with it, we should just take out those buildings. What are we waiting for? Another anti-tank missile, this time on a full school bus?
14. Talk of truce is totally irrelevent.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (04.09.11)
Whenever and if ever there is quiet from the Gaza, then and only then should there be any reduction in Israel's response. Hamas started it, so let them finish it. Hamas needs to just shut up their stupidness and demonstrate by actions, not words, that they want some calm. That is all there is to it. Hamas wants Israel to not retaliate. Well let them follow their own recommendation and not retaliate against Israel for a week, then see where it goes from there.
15. Thank G-d we are rid of the Traitor Olmert
meir elazar   (04.09.11)
Thank G-d we not longer have Olmert to surrender to terror and abandon our forces in the field.
16. Barak
Michaelpielet ,   boca, usa   (04.09.11)
as long as barak is defence minister the conflict will continue.
17. Don't Do It !!!
Brazen   (04.09.11)
hamas Cant Be Trusted, and Now that Israel has the upper hand GET GILAD SHALIT BACK. Then Put hayeeniah, masheel, abbas and the rest of them OUT of their Misery Once and For ALL !!! For Hashem is Watching. Shabat Shalom
18. Food for thought
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.09.11)
Let's playchess by being methodical Visualize Gaza as a chessboard, divided in a grid of squares For each missile that Hamas fires, remove one square from the chessboard by destroying a section of Gaza Start from the lower right square, then proceed to the one immediately to its left, and so forth, then up to the next row Doing it this way will let them know exactly who is going to be without a roof over their heads
19. Now is the Time to Finish the Job Once and for All
Umm El Kul Naqba   (04.09.11)
Tens of thousand of rockets have targeted Israeli civilians and cities. School buses are targeted. It makes no difference to HAMAS, IJ, PRC, etc how many PALs they sacrifice as long as they can try to murder Israelis. There is no such thing as peace or compromise. For them the war can go on a thousand years. Never has there been a better time. Olmert is gone. USA is dealing with a govt financial shutdown. Japan has multiple catastrophes of far more significance to Japan and the world. UN and many countries are engaging Libya. There are problems in Yemen, Bahrain, Egypt, Syria, etc. No one give a damn about Gaza. Now is the time to go in and finish the job in Gaza once and for all until not one single terrorist remains. No mercy. No compromise. and most of all no more terror or war.
20. No Truce Without Gilad Shalit!!!!
Shai ,   il   (04.09.11)
21. Release Shalit as a Goodwill Gesture
Frankie Littlehammer ,   New Herstal, TX, USA   (04.09.11)
Maybe Mr Erdogan or someone like him can suggest that Hamas releases Gilad Shalit as a goodwill gesture. Israel often releases prisoners as a goodwill gesture to the Palestinians, and Mr Shalit is not convicted criminal but an abducted soldier, held prisoner against all rules of the Geneva Convention in unallowable conditions.
22. Wow!! SoimpressedwtihIsraelsresponse.

Thisislikeagameitseems. Nothingmore, nothingless. Intheend, nothingchanges. Thestatusquoremainsthesame. Oh, pardon me, something does change. We, who support Israel are getting to the point where we can see our support wane, due to the lack of total committment of the Israeli leaders to attack the cause for the bombardments and allow all Isrealies the opportunity to live in peace and quiet. We are really fed up with the lack of a cohesive, encompassing plan in dealing with Gaza. We do not like this kind of soap opera. End it, once for all. Or, it appears you will lose more international support as you progress. The image you are showing the world is one of timidity. When you should be showing the opposite. Your people demand nothing less. Their lives are being impacted daily in a negative manner. For what do they pay their taxes, For what do they vote you into office. Not to play these sorts of cat and mouse with terrorists. Wake Up. You are being killed with a thousand pin pricks.
23. Excellent idea #18
Jr   (04.09.11)
Fight fire with fire!
24. It is time to use HAMAS' tactics against them
meir elazar   (04.09.11)
The typical HAMAS tactic is to deploy weapons from schools, mosques, hospitals, etc. They stage massacres and photoshop them try to portray Israel as the villain when they are actually the villains. They fire from civilian population centers so the either Israel is expect to refrain from responding or they can try to blame Israel for civilian casualties. Israel has the surveillance technology, drones, etc. where they can capture the proof and publicize what HAMAS is doing to their own people so the world can see what animals these are. When the world sees HAMAS transporting rockets and terrorists in ambulances, converting garbage trucks to missile launchers, etc. will they understand that HAMAS, PRC, and IJ must be totally destroyed and with absolutely no mercy.
25. Now it is time to get rid of Barak and Livni
meir elazar   (04.09.11)
Barka has always been a failure. If we could get rid of him and find a real Defense Minister we could finish this job once and for all. Getting rid of Livni would also be a blessing for the country.
26. Peace & security in the region is the objective, be focussed
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.09.11)
27. Who is Hamas
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (04.09.11)
Not human at all. The solution. Gaza was a mistake, a very bad idea. Remove the cancer and all will be peace. Gaza is Israel land, read the Bible. Do not expect Obama to fix the situation, Ayayay ! See how impotent he is in Libya.
28. #18 Thank G-d for mistakes and malfunctions
Umm El Kul Naqba   (04.09.11)
I have also advocated a similar strategy when the weapons has lessor ranges. Destroy launch areas pushing them back. But with today's Grads and others, range no longer is the issue. Instead, I suggest that we draw red lines and when they are crossed, in the midst of normal defensive/offensive measures we have a minor mishap, an errant rockets hits a special target. A red line might be targeting and hitting an Israeli school bus. The "accidental" missile might take out a mosque, electrical plant, water plant, hospital, etc. If our children and civilians are targets of the terrorists then no Gaza target should be off the table and the price they pay should be infinitely higher. If they hide behind their civilians and try to blame us for civilian casualties, then let's have technical failures and "accidents" in our weapons system accordingly.
29. Translation ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.09.11)
Hamas: "HELP!!" Israel: "Sorry, not just yet."
30. Does Hamas want a hudna or a tahdi’a?
Mladen Andrijasevic ,   Be'er Sheva, Israel   (04.09.11)
From the article it is not clear what Hamas wants. Is it hudna, a well-defined Islamic term which has antecedents and set rules in Islamic shari’a law or the tahdi’a, a sort of amorphous, non-binding and temporary truce ? For the difference please read Cease-Fire, with Whom? By Raphael Israeli http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2009/02/cease-fire-with-whom.html Let’s not forget that in both cases the truce is temporary until Hamas recovers to strike again . The difference is just in the duration
