This man may have a checkered past, but it seems that these threats & escalations toward indictmen occur when the Israeli elite need Lieberman to stop talking. In Lieberman's most recent speech he all but threatened a coalition crises in response to the government's unwillingness to topple Hamas, a move that the Israeli elite does not agree with. Sure enough, one day later, he is being indicted. My guess is Lieberman will pipe down, and the indictment will blow over, again.

In a real democratic republic (i.e. the US), the regular legal system cannot unseat a high political official. That is done via impeachment (House) and conviction (Senate). In Israel, where one cannot reach high office legally, everyone is continually subject to a legal system for political reasons. This system, at the top, is self-perpetuating.
