1. Ugly Buildings
A Shvitzer ,   Israel   (05.03.11)
Why are so many huge ugly apartment buildings allowed to be built in Israel. They might cost alot of money but boy are they ugly !!
2. Those with money do..The rest just eat themselves up alive
Al   (05.03.11)
with spite. Go ahead...Eat yoursleves up alive. For those who can afford it..I say...enjoy it in good health. It's all good!

This building replaced a broken down dilapidated one, hard to say these people are competing with the average Israeli for these apartments
4. Housing in Israel
Mina ,   Haifa   (05.04.11)
The on going rise in prices and the lack of availability of affordable housing in Israel, continues to be one of its major problems, which could lead to a threat on its survival as a Jewish state.! It is my opinion that it is mainly due to this problem that Israel suffers from its brain drain and sees so many young families leaving it to merely seek normal life abroad and a mortgage they can actually use to buy a home with. It is simply unacceptable that Israel, which calls Jews to live in it and Israelis to return to it, will continue to allow this situation to continue.
5. #4 Absolutely agree with you.
Talula ,   Israel   (05.04.11)
6. Mina you know very little of how real estate works..
Al   (05.04.11)
Its all about location location location. For example..Here in Montreal, a house can be had in a non Jewish area for about 40% less than in a Jewish area. Thats how it works. 2) Stop believing that anyone owes anyone anything. No one owes anyone anything. As to those who leave Isreal for better climes..good luck to you all and dont forget your old parents..take them with you. Israel doesnt have to stuck with your old parents. Israel is not a dumping ground.
7. 6 Al,are you aware that your ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.04.11)
children might read your post? If G-D gives you years, you will expect that your children respect you when you are old. Old Jewish people have the same right as young to live in Israel.
8. Ora...you missed my point...I dont expect my kids to wipe
Al   (05.04.11)
my ass, G-d forbid should I be in that position. What I was saying is that many people up and leave Israel to go to the USA etc while leaving their very elderly parents behind in Israel for the state to take care of. Some of these elderly have never worked and contributed to the State. Of course those who have contributed to the State, well they deserve to be treated by the State. For example I as a Citizen of Canada will not receive a full pension should I not have had contributed to the pension plan over a period of 40Yrs. Unless you want Israel to turn into a nursing home, then I suggest you start charging an exit tax for all those who wish to leave, while leaving their elderly parents behind. The State does not have to be a wet nurse for these elderly people whose children have already left the country and who in many cases have already send their money abroad to their Yordim children.

You can't compare those flats , bought by foreign residents , to those the general Israel public buys or can buy . You can't take those prices to deduct your conclusions . Housing is expensive , yes , but not only here . Brain drain : those are generally high educated persons , who are offered better situations , or more possibilities abroad . They had a good income here too , and it's not a housing problem that causes their departure . I think that they often keep their appartements here .
10. Dear 6 & 9...
Mina ,   Haifa   (05.04.11)
6. besides your sensational title you said very little...firstly in comparision to other areas in the world, Israel is grossly more expensive in housing. The reason is not its Jewish population, nor its so-called location, but rather the power its government gives to those few who hold the money and control over housing in Israel. Secondly, Israel does owe a lot to its people, especially its young soldiers who serve in the army during the best years of their lives, only to be released into one of the harshest economical reality in the developing world for young people in terms of housing, wages, studies, etc Finally, indeed Israel is not a dumping ground, and as such it should look after its own Jewish population, avoid the massive entry of illegal workers, employ all its Jewish population and pay them adequate wages, make it religious and Arab population serve in the army and/or national service, and ensure that it would provide reasonable and affordable terms and prices in housing for its young Jewish population. As far as my parents, they have both worked in Israel for over fifty years and my father fought in five of its wars, they now live from their well earned pensions. 9. I was not only referring to these flats but rather to those available to the geneal public, which have for a very long time been well beyond the reach of many hard working Israelis. As far as the brain drain, some of the best possibilities in science and Tech. are available in Israel, but those (and other) Israelis still leave it because Israel is making it impossible for many to stay and survive with dignity. If Israel will not make housing more affordable for its Jewish population, it would remain with its illegal workers, its mostly disloyal Arab population, and many emplty apartment that were purchased by non-residing foreigners who actually remain abroad...
11. 8 Very sorry,Al,i misunderstood you.

You are right that Israel offers many opportunities for good qualified people . But those who leave because of "brain drain" can survive here with dignity . Those who have difficulties to live here , can't leave either . They have'nt more possibilities abroad . How can the State make housing more affordable for EVERYONE ? There is cheaper housing , but not in wanted areas . There it's the market that makes the price .
13. Al , 8 . She often misses the points
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.04.11)
but then , she also apologises . That's her good side .

15. #6: Al, why are you so prejudiced against
Vardina   (05.05.11)
the older generation? You have an idea how many of them are independent self mainaining business men/women or employees who work harder and better than youngsters? You should be more open minded and objective. Regarding those who need support - perhaps their children would be more able to support them from abroad than from Israel.
16. #8: Your statement should apply mainly
Vardina   (05.05.11)
to those of the Russian immigrants who had made Aliah to Israel, receive the Klitah package, brought their old parents here, then left the country and their old parent behing for us to support them.
17. # 9 and 6
Ian ,   South Africa   (05.05.11)
You have a point that location is the key to determine property prices , but consider this for a minute , all decent payed jobs are in the central area in Israel , outside of this area ie the South or Negev region there are no employment opportunities where of course housing is cheaper , no go figure this out if you have half a brain as a new olim I earned around the NIS4000 a month how the hell is that going to buy myself a new apartment ???? The only thing one can do is rent a room and who wants to do this !!!
18. #2, 6, 8: Are you prepared to go without health care?
5th generation ,   Israel   (05.05.11)
Forever? And all your loved ones? Perhaps you expect Israelis to do the same. Because you are basically saying that health care workers - most of whom make much too little to afford even non-luxury homes - are worthless, don't deserve a home of their own, and perhaps should not be in that field so they can "have". I'm not talking about the handful of hotshot MDs, I'm talking about the many who carry out the everyday hospital work, who in fact save lives and prevent total misery. In the meantime, many of the people who can afford luxury housing became rich from ill-gotten gains, and very few of them pay their share of taxes. You are at once justifying Hitler's stereotype of Jews AND suggesting his dream be fulfilled. The fact that luxury building for individuals not living in Tel Aviv (or paying taxes to the endangered State of Israel) outpaces building for locals who hold up this country cannot be justified.

One half of my brain asks you : in wich year did you earn 4000 sh . The second half ask you : how much do you make in South Africa ? . Because if you could'nt make more than 4000 sh recently , you are'nt very qualified . Unqualified people can't make much money anywhere in the world .

21. I found this article rather sick
Stephanie ,   israel   (05.06.11)
In fact I felt I was going to run to the bathroom and litterally be sick. Yes my children DID army service and dont have the money to put down on an affordable apartment, simply because there are none! B"H our daughter has five children ad 120 live in a small place pays a lot of rent. Excuse me running to the bathroom again!!!

23. Vardina ..it took you awhile to realize who I was talking
Al   (05.12.11)
about.... What I am saying is 100% true and you know it. Israel is becoming a dumping ground for elderly immigrants from the FSU while their kids up and leave for other climes such as Montreal. Israel is stuck with these elderly people, having to care for them while their kids haul off. So what I am saying is this..If you come to country and you have not contributed to the social welfare coffers for an extended period of time then you will have to pay an exit tax should you up and leave. Of couse you may not collect it when they leave but they will be made to pay thru the nose should they ever return to visit. It works trust me...try to register a car in Toronto if you never paid your highway 407 tolls....you can have your car seized.
