In fact two-thirds of the Arab dead were Hamas combatants, proving that the IDF is the most moral army in the world. Under similar circumstances, the technologically and logistically superior US and UK forces kill roughly 2 non-combatants for each combatant. Becher also cries about the dead Arab minors, but neglects to mention that according to the 4th Geneva Convention Hamas, and not the IDF, is entirely responsible for their deaths. Again, this only proves that the IDF is the most moral army and that Hamas committed war crimes. Becher also tries to vindicate Anat Kam, forgetting to mention that Kam's crime was not reporting allegedly illegal behavior but theft of operational secrets that could lead to the death of hundreds of IDF soldiers. It is interesting to note that Ms. Becher is a member of Meretz, one of the organizations that refuse to disclose sources of funding of the NGOs that invented the "facts" that underlie the Goldstone report.

As long as Hamas encourages, condones and permits the firing of rockets and mortars into Israel ("A License To Kill") in their unrelenting determination to drive Jews out of Israel, the alternative solutions left for Israel is military retaliation or annihilation. Unfortunately, innocent civilians, including children, end up being casualties as the result of military actions. The alternative for Hamas is to decide to stop firing on innocent Israeli citizens... permamently. Is that a military solution? Of course it is. Is it going to happen? Of course not. There is no peaceful solution to this conflict as long as Hamas and others seek to destroy Israel.

Many who claim Israel is a war criminal due to Cast Lead often cite (as Becher did) the number of people killed who "were not involved in hostilities". However, upon closer examination, just like Becher, those who made these claims also distorted the facts by claiming those terrorists who were not at the very moment of being killed were "involved in hostilities" (shooting a gun or RPG despite carrying one). These are the same who claim 17 year olds are "minors" (though doing an adult crime), and terrorists wearing civilian clothes are "civilians". Journalists and "Palestinian" Human Rights Group claimed the number of civilians at hospitals were high because "they didn't see men arrive with weapons in their body". Besides NO ONE injured enters a hospital with weapons on their body, they failed to report that weapons were taken off the injured and handed to the next terrorist available before heading to the hospital. In my book, even manipulation or non-inclusion of a few facts is considered lying, as it's a purposeful act to distort the truth.

Even Goldstone now admits that the report was a sham although he still lacks the decency to formally apologize. The Goldstone team included Christine Chinkin who declared Israel guilty before she even began her work. Her cohort Desmond Travers calls himself a military expert although his experience is limited to the parade ground. Goldstone and his team were selected by the UN because the UN knew it would be one sided. It is revealing that this article would be written on the very day a 16 year old boy in Israel died from wounds suffered in a terror attack.

The report has been thoroughly debunked, as was made evident even to Goldstone himself at the most recent debate on the report in which he was in attendance (but not participating). Yet Becher, who still believes in the IDF's evil or at least trending to evil, just can't admit those claims are bogus. And no, there were no 1,400 killed, nor were "more than half" uninvolved in hostilities. The true number is closer to 1,200, at even Hamas admits that 600-700 were militants. (It's not clear if that includes militants operating independently of Hamas.)

Sharon/Olmert withdrew from gaza, but this led to war, not peace. The cast lead operation was too little too late. However, it has changed the reality. The Gazan public are now 50% opposed to firing missiles at Israel. And the learning curve is now much shorter - as the recent hostiltiies showed that superior firepower can deter more terror. There is no equivalence between firing an anti tank missile at a school bus (war crime), and retaliatory military strikes which have civilian collateral victims.
