31. #7 Reality-check
Menachem ,   Israel   (04.19.11)
Despite Israel's imperfections, minorities including Christians are far safer than Jews and other minorities in Western Europe, not to mention the Moslem Arab world. The Arabs opened unprovoked fire on Israel in 1948, a war which they lost and has to bear the consequences for. Israel has treated its Christian minority far better than any Christian majority society has ever treated its Jewish minority. Feel free to move if Israel is so bad for you.
32. Is it not more about radicalism and fanatism than religions?
Youssef ,   Beirut   (04.19.11)
My grandfather used to say: "Son, never trust anyone who does not eat porc".
33. to#9, Fadi
HaifaGuy   (04.19.11)
Your anger might be justified. We, Jews, aren't perfect. Yet how does your private family matter explain the stats? The steady rise in the Christian population in Israel vs. the steep decline (a plunge!) in their numbers elsewhere in the Muslim world? Huh? You cowards will always choose to blame us over your crescent-worshipping brethren because they, unlike us, WILL slaughter you at the lightest excuse you provide. Shame on you. Why don't you pack up and go to Europe, or US or Canada or wherever else your lives will be nice and easy. Oh but in those countries, you won't have the joy of continuous bitching and moaning about the Jews because your Muslim brothers are taking them over, as well. BTW, is this also our fault? C O W A R D S !!!
34. Hey , can you afford to be honestttt
(04.19.11)
You failed to mention the following : - Israel is one place where moslems are encouraged to leave . - Saudi Arabia has no Christians Saudis , so how can they be annoyed. - The Iraqi case is exceptional reaction to an extreme westren conduct , I hope you recall the head priest of US military made a point of sitting in Saddam chair and take pictures , the message is not too fussy. - The syrians Christians are well treated , five of top advisoers to the late Assad were Chritians . - Most of the Christiansare leaving because of economic reasons as they are more educated and frustrated, yes some because of frictions or reasons the west has some thing to do with . - The West is more receptive to arab Christians to come over. Fahd Alharby ,   Madina, S. Arabia   (04.19.11)
Sherin, You are correct and great .We Arabs hold Christian Arabs in high esteem and we cannot forget their contributions in all spheres of life . Viva Sherin.. For Preisdent..
36. facts, not names
Martin ,   New York   (04.19.11)
Sherin, the article does not state that pure islam is against the jews, it may well be workable and has been, more or less, in the past. It does documents a drive to cleanse lands under arab control from non-muslims, in this case christians, but some years back of almost all jews. The proportions are telling.
37. to rami
Martin ,   New York   (04.19.11)
very strange comment. you discuss on the one hand actions happening in the course of a war in 1948 when the arabs tried to wipe out the nascent israeli state, and arabs were the ennemy, and then two more cases were Muslims and Druze misbehaved, and these are somehow evidence of viscious actions of Israel towards christians? In any event, the pattern referred to in the article is not israel, it is the whole middle east.
38. Christians during the Holocaust
Jacqueline Callanan ,   Philadelphia, PA   (04.18.11)
Giulio, thank you for your article. I am a Christian who is standing behind Jews and praying for peace in the world. I only have one issue with one sentence in your article. "During the Holocaust, when most Christians were bystanders or collaborators,..." On what fact do you base this comment? My research has revealed that millions of Christians were killed during WWII in Germany, and many Jews were rescued by Christians and the Catholic church. I can only deduce that if you have a biased opinion of Christians, you may have a biased opinion of others as well. Hence, I can only read your piece with a grain of salt.
39. ironically the christians are some of our bitterest enemies
golan ,   modiin   (04.19.11)
40. are you kidding me?
masrawy ,   egypt   (04.19.11)
1st more Muslims flee the Arab world to other countries than Christians, we're all oppressed under unjust regimes (two down twenty to go) and those regimes are planting hatred between Muslims and Christians 2nd arab christians still love their countries and hate israel just as much as muslims
41. Fadi-there's plenty of blame to go around..
(04.19.11)
42. the writer is right to almost 100%.
kidane ,   Eritrea   (04.19.11)
i hate talking about religion but it is good to tell the world the reallity i experienced. I have an experience of journey from Eritrea to sudan to libya , to Egypt and eventually to saini and at last to Israel on which i suffered alot for being only a christian in this modern times. the basic prinsiple of muslim from what i understood and a muslim friend of mine told me is that to kill none muslim and to bring islam the religion of the whole world. when i was in the muslem countries i used to pretend or act like a muslim fearing of persecution look how hard is? on mean while i realized a bit difference among different muslims, the Arabic speakers of the muslims are the most dangerous to the lives of none muslim than the other muslims. when i was in libya i had a Curd friend from Siria and he told me as if he is not a muslim but pretends his whole life as muslim sorry i forget his traditional religion. he told me that how hard in his country to live being none muslim. in my country we have muslim tribes but they are not as much cruel as of the arabic speakers. so from my reall experience this religion is basically founded on lies, they love lies so much! for me i never ever trust a word from what a muslim person says cause i have enough of almost 5 years experience with different mulim people, so the world needs to be very carefull on to this ideology. now in Isreal i am really enjoying the freedom of religion, long live Isreal for the hope of peace, freedom and democracy in this trabled region.
43. Jews are in a difficult position.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.19.11)
There are forces as strong or maybe stronger than Nationalism in the Middle East. These are the forces of religion, which encompass huge numbers of people on both the Christian and Muslim sides. In comparison to these two religions, Jews are a drop in the proverbial bucket. The Jewish religion is in a very difficult position, along with Christianity in the region, as shown by the numbers in Mr. Meotti's article. The Secular Israel may be the only hope for religious Jews toward finding a shelter somewhere, anywhere in the Middle East. This is because militarily, nationalistically, secular Israel is the only force that can hold the line against the Arabs, with the help of the Christian nations, of course.
44. NR 9.
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (04.19.11)
YOU ARE NO TRUE CHRISTIAN !!!. IF YOU WERE - YOU WOULD HAVE WRITTEN ACCORDIN TO THE WORD OF YEHOWAH IN THE BIBLE, BECAUSE, CHRIST IS THE WORD OF YEHOWAH, ACCORDING TO CHRISTIAN TEACHING. Orao.Srbia..
45. #40: 80,000 Egyptian Jews robbed and forced to flee Egypt
EgyptianJewRefugee ,   Ex Cairo, Egypt   (04.19.11)
#40: 80,000 Egyptian Jews were robbed and forced to flee Egypt. We were treated worse than the Palestinians.
46. It is high time Christians in Israel and beyond began to...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.19.11)
...realize who their allies in the region are: The Jews, and the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel.

48. Mideast without Christians. #19 &29.
Elsie. ,   gush halav   (04.19.11)
You want dates, well, in 1953 the Biram village was bomb by the Israeli forces, not one house stands today, the village was turned into a park, even thought the Biram people won the right to return to their village by the supreme court, until today they are not allow to go back, and by the way ,no compensated was offered.
49. Change the title please.
Fouad ,   Lebanon   (04.19.11)
How about changing the title to Israelis must realize Israel’s fate intertwined with fate of Christians and non-Muslims in region?
50. Dear #7. You can't beat the statistics. Israel
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (04.19.11)
IS and WILL be the safe haven for Christians in the ME. Only fools spit into the well they are drinking water from.
51. Christrian putting Jews under ther feet?
Dennis Hibbard ,   Whittier USA   (04.19.11)
How so Not talking about RC COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY! CRUSADES ETC.
52. # 40 Qena Protests
Thomas ,   US   (04.19.11)
What's happening with the Muslim protest in Qena. They don't like that the city has a Christian governor and want him removed. You don't have Mubarak to blame for this example of Muslim "tolerance".
53. And its not over...
Omar ,   Syria   (04.19.11)
The new "democracy" movement in the middle east, naively supported by the US and the West will backfire on the christians (and druze, alawi, ismailis - practically all the miniorities) and will finally bring to an end communities millenia old...the islamic umma will reign supreme spreading its oppression, hate and regressive nature on all the lands....
54. "no one was left to speak up"
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (04.19.11)
They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up. Pastor Martin Niemöller "They" in this context will be the arabs, instead of the Nazi Brothers in Christ, let not history repeat itself.
55. I LOVE TO THE JEWS
Luis ,   Madrid/Sefarad   (04.19.11)
I am Christian, I love at jew Jesus, I love Israel, I love the Tanak ...The Wisdom come from the Hebreos, they are our holy roots. The danger is in the Islam, they hate us and they wish our disappearance. /
56. As a Christian
Peter   (04.19.11)
i have to say it is so sad and so true! Yet still my fellow Christians are blaming the Jews. And the western Christian world especially the Left and another Human Rights Groups which go rampant when an Israeli settler drops his shovel, they remain silent.Imagine the Christians would be persecuted and oppressed by the Jews.It would be topic No.1 everywhere. The "noble savage" attitude still prevails in editorial teams across the western world!
57. #9 Happy Easter, Fadi : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.19.11)
to Giulio Meotti: There are about 300 thousand Palestinian Christians in Chile, from Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour, many of them want to return to their homeland, but they can not because of the "Israeli" occupation, I hope you can help these Palestinians to return to their homeland. If you don't trust me enough cuz im 'muslim' and if you're interested in the truth go to Chile ,meet them , you will find out why they do not return to Birth Place of Jesus Christ.
58. Merci
Sylvain ,   Suisse   (04.19.11)
I have been saying the same for long. In 50-100 years there will no longer be any christians in the Muslim world, but Europe will have plenty of Muslims
59. wonderful
John ,   NY   (04.19.11)
A wonderful article, brave, bright and unique
60. Good article, the West betrays christians
Sobieski ,   Germany   (04.19.11)
Because the west has lost its faith in the God of Israel. Our only hope is Israel, as will however be contested by dhimmis in this forum.
