Hakim ,   Palestine   (04.19.11)
2. Israel 1948
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (04.19.11)
In 1948, Israel did not wait. It declared its state. It did not wait on those who would deny independence and sovereignty. Israel under Netanyahu is unwilling to allow independence or sovereignty to Palestine. He won't even allow his "negotiators" to touch, open or read or listen to PA proposals on borders and security. He wants talks that lead to more talks, ad infinitum. Netanyahu's path will not lead to anything except the status quo and demands for one-state citizenship which the Israeli right will deny. Nobody is going to recognize any push to move Palestinians or affiliate them with Egypt or Jordan, no matter how hard anybody wishes. Reality can be harsh.

ovadyah ,   hales   (04.19.11)
not a good idea
4. Not recognizing Israel's deed to land given to the Jews by
Rivkah   (04.19.11)
YHWH is calling God a liar. Dividing God's land (Jerusaelem) will lead to Armageddon, the Prophet Joel warned. Better for the Quartet to back off and relocate Palestinians in Muslim countries around the world and honor the Jews' claim to the land YHWH gave to them. The Jews will not be driven out but the Gentiles will be. How? Hail, fire and brimstone from the heavens, disease, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, destroying winds and as many other devices at YHWH's armory as is necessary to keep His promises to the Jews. Gentile world rule will end. The question is, sooner or later? I tremble for the people who are calling YHWH a liar. Eternal separation from God is the fate of liars.
5. Why wait for Bibi
Cynic #2   (04.19.11)
He will only present a balloon of a plan full of hot human gas.
6. The basis for an accommodation of peaceful coexistence...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.19.11)
...between Arab and Jew, between the Muslim-Arab world and the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel, was placed in 1967 by the UN Security Council. It Resolution, 242, passed unanimously, was accepted by ALL parties to the Arab Israeli conflict and has already served to achieve functioning peace treaties. 242, while calling upon Israel to withdraw the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from territories captured during the defensive 1967 Six-Day War, doesn't specify to which line should be moved. Instead, 242 explicitly call for them to move behind "secure and recognized boundaries". Clearly, only direct negotiations by the parties can determine what the "secure" boundries may be, and only through a mutual agreement can such boundaries be recognized. Also, 242 does not call at all for the setting up of an additional state in the region, nor does the resolution use terminology such as "Palestinians", "Palestine" or a "Palestinian state". Israel's willingness to set up such an entity has already been a major gesture of good will that has, sadly, been received with drive-by-shootings, car explosions, suicide bombings and rockets aimed at the mass murder of Jewish civilians. Developments in Gaza which Israel left in 2005, only suggest that 242, as is, is the right choice.
7. Needs a different headline.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (04.19.11)
The headline should be, '' Does Netanyahu Have a Backbone?.'' Then, the article should open with, ''We will soon find out if PM Netanyahu is a spineless wimp who can be bullied & pressured or is he a mentsh who cannot be bluffed into making dangerous concessions.'' Please notice that the article says the Quartet ''may ......etc.'' It is a bluff. If the Quartet actually does this, the Oslo Accords are abrogated, this is an illegal move even by the biased standards of the Quartet. And, if the Oslo Accords are rendered nul & void, we are freed from their constraints as well. Netanyahu should hang tough. The US Congress & the American people support Israel no matter how hostile the Obama administration. And, Obama has begun his re-election campaign - not the time for him to create a major confrontation with Israel. Without American support, the Quartet is just a debating society. So, the real question is about the character of Netanyahu. Will he, as so many of our politicians have done in the past, give in & blame ''international pressure'' as an excuse for his own weakness? We will soon find out if we have elected a wimp as PM.
8. NOBODY can impose self-destruction on
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.19.11)
the Jewish state... There will be NO CARVING up, of the the land of Israel...!!!!
9. Really good news.
Al Mujahid   (04.19.11)
10. Wannsee 2
Jonny ,   South Africa   (04.19.11)
I wonder if these self same Diplomats and coutries ever think that one day their decisons will be known as Wannsee 2. Ignoring the realities of the consequences will not be accepted as an excuse.
11. Rings false - Congress and even Obama will not acknowledge
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (04.19.11)
Somehow this rings false - Congress and even Obama will not acknowledge a unilateral state just before elections. We already have congress threatening to cancel Palestinian and UN funding if a state is declared, and Obama knows that the US acknowledging a PA state without a negotiated settlement is the end of his presidential career. If this happens even Sarah Palin could beat Obama in 2012,
12. The Russians.
Jules   (04.19.11)
Unless the Russians state clearly that they intend to participate in the Quartet meeting, this will remain a fairy tale.
13. Israel was forced in Palestine, time to force Palestine also
Ann ,   UK   (04.19.11)
14. KISH MEIN TUCHUS
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (04.19.11)
Look on the bright side ,Obama wished Israelis a Happy Passover .I will not let this buslshit threat ruin my hold day Passover . Bibi hang tough ,tell them to go to hell. .
15. Doesn't UNSCR 242 calls upon Israel to
Benjamin ,   Boston, MA USA   (04.19.11)
withdraw its armed forces only to "secure and recognized boundaries"? And if this is the case, why declare unilaterally that the 1949 armistice lines (1967 lines) are the proper borders if the UN Security Council clearly has not recognized them as such, nor has Israel? Let us remember: 242 was accepted by all the parties to the conflict, including the PLO which now is backing away from it, and cynically, some in the world go along with it; rewarding it for the terror that it brought to the region and the world.
16. @4 Rivkah
M.Lith ,   The Netherlands   (04.19.11)
Abba did NOT give Palestine to the zionists, the UK did.
17. To 6 - Green Line Turned out to be Secure
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (04.19.11)
The 67 Green line turned out to be secure for Israel and nobody else. Israel launched a conquest of half of Egypt and all of what is now known as the Palestinian territories from the Green Line. Netanyahu refused to allow discussion of boundaries or security last September. As for Gaza, Israel never even discussed anything with anybody in the PA about Gaza until months after Israel had decided to "disengage." Israel asked for nothing in any negotiation. Always finding a reason for refusing to negotiate in good faith is not the way to achieve anything other than status quo. If you want their recognition, you have to be willing to grant recognition, something your current government is unwilling to do.
18. #5 Why wait for bibi. He will only
Shei   (04.19.11)
present a balloon of a plan full of hot human gas. In that case, let's hope it will NOT explode in anyone's face. Can you just imagine the stink. It will stink like a Polecat let go on us!
19. Terry Eilat Israel
JimmyG   (04.19.11)
I agree with you 1000%. One other thing... isn't the Palis looking for an excuse to upset the forthcoming royal wedding by lashing out at the Jews to draw the world's attention away from the Royal Wedding. These muzzies are such low class, they are fit for anything.
20. To The Quartet: OK. the we cut off everything!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.19.11)
Force it on us and then no water, no electricity, no banking, certainly no movement of Palestinians into Israel. Israel must close its borders and Palestinians will need visas to enter Israel and will not be allowed to work in Israel or for any "Settler" who live in the territories. They can get gas and fuel from Egypt and build their own power stations and the Jordanians can pay for everything! Of course, they want to return to the 1967 borders when their was NO Palestinian State so legally the whole area MUST revert back to Jordan. If Jordan then gives them independence, it must be responsible for providing them with the infrastructure! By the way, which Palestine are they going to recognize? Gaza under Hamas or the west Bank? Our question is will Prime Minister Netanyahu have the guts to stand up and once and for do the best for Israel and its people? Sure there will be a Palestinian State and we will have to make big concessions. Unfortunately, the extreme right wing is controlling Netanyahu and serving their own interests and not those of the majority of Israelis who who be only to happy to get ride of this plague on our doorstep.
21. Unfortunately for Israel..
Y ,   N   (04.19.11)
...another arab dictatorship will soon be established in the middle-east.
22. Truefinns-party leader is a friend of Israel.
Jouko ,   Finland   (04.19.11)
All over the world Israel has 'hidden' friends and supporters. In the Finnish parliament elections the TRUEFINNS party-leader got my vote because he said in public that he is a friend of Israel. Israel has millions of friends all over - friends that should be more active in their support of Israel.
23. Author

24. About time !!!
Michael ,   Haifa   (04.19.11)
If we have not proved ourselves as a "light unto the nations", the nations are showing us the light and we would be well advised to pay careful attention to it
25. Where is Liberman?
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.19.11)
don't leave the toilet, dudu. lol
26. It's All Good for the Arabs
Mark from Georgiaq ,   USA   (04.19.11)
When you have a state, and it attacks another Independent State (Israel), it changes the equation with how Israel can respond. Israel will NOT be obligated to provide anything to the Gaza strip which now depends on daily shipments from Israel to survive. Fuel, Water, Medicine ALL GONE. Along with hundreds of other items. Israel will be relieved of all responsibility for any aid. Good luck. Add to that there is NO unified leadership for the country, or anything to work from (like a Constitution) for the Arabs. So how will they run the country? What are the citizens rights? Is there freedom of the press? This should be fun to watch.
27. What borders? Cease fire lines existed
Kerwood Derby ,   Frostbite Falls, MN   (04.19.11)
And Israel foolishly, suicidally entered into agreements to establish borders with Egypt and Jordan after defensive wars in whcih Israel should have annexed the land they won. Palestine never existed as a state. And to say that there is anything like a distinct people with a unique culture, language, cuisine called Palestinian is something less than pretentious. Any act to say so is only intended to de-legitimize the rights of the Jews to live in the land of their own name. The only possible legitimate Arab claim to land is in the peninsula of their own name to which they should have their right of return enforced. But that is not the point of the nations.
28. Wise Counsel
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (04.19.11)
G-d's timetable is about to trump all others. A certain person descended patrilineally from King David via Solomon should be invited to Jerusalem with his team to facilitate and oversee negotiations. The next 27 days are crucial. There will be a Pesach lull and then...
29. Guess What
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (04.19.11)
The prophecies have been misinterpreted since King Hezekiah was a boy. People should be very careful about what they think is going to happen in the Holy Land. Beware of self-fulfilling negative prophecies !
30. A Train Wreck
Dallas ,   Canada   (04.19.11)
#1 Fledgling Israel was not like the PA in that it was not belligerent to surrounding regimes, unlike PA, Hamas, or whatever rules the palestinians. #2 UN 242 was worded to specifically allow Israel to defensible borders, which is not possible under this proposal. #3 Jerusalem cannot be divided, with a no-man's land west of the Old City. Completely unworkable. #4 Fledgling Israel never intended to be apartheid, unlike the PA's intent. #5 Unintended consequences are bound to happen worldwide, including numerous effects with ethnically cleansing 80 times the numbers of people forced from Gaza to forcing international troops to ensure the peace to the 'big one'... the consequences of Biblical prophesy, and you don't have to be religious to recognize that there is something spookily true regarding this - you just have to honestly study what has happened to this point as regards this, and connect all the dots.
